OT: what a long, strange trip it's been

Post by SnoozyWoozyCat » Thu Feb 04, 2010 11:03 pm

i just wanted to let all of my cpap buddies know that I have been in the hospital since jan. 13th. I was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia. I went to an er here in denver and never got to go home and process it all. My blood counts were some of the lowest they had ever seen. I had my 1st chemo treatment on the 15th and apparently something went very wrong. My lungs shut down and they had to put me on a ventilator and in a temp. coma for about a week. 3.5 weeks later, and my counts have come up enough that the doctor said I could go home until the next chemo treatment-- only problem is, they put me on massive doses of steroids, i've been in a coma for a wk and in bed for 2.5 weeks. So my muscles are virtually useless and now I have to go to rehab to strenghten them for possibly 2 weeks. I just want off this scary rollercoaster ride!

Apparently my type of leukemia is rare in that it is one of few that can be treated only by chemo; a bone marrow transplant would not be necessary. i will however be on some sort of chemo for the next 2 years. The hair has started to come out -- hard to deal with but cool for summer?

So that in a nutshell is what's going on with me. My numbers improved fairly quickly, and next week I will have a 2nd bone marrow biopsy to see if the leukemia is in remisson. So send healing thoughts my way!

Bless your heart. Of course you want off! And of course you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

As to the hair loss. Just think of it as a fashion forward thing. You will be going with the "Bald is Beautiful" look:

And I'm not being flip about this. As you can see from the photos, "Bald is Beautiful" is a fashion subtrend. Though you didn't choose that path, you can always decide to laugh at fate and embrace it anyway!

Oh to have Natalie Portman's bone structure! If I looked that good bald, I wouldn't mind a bit!

Thanks to all for the kind thoughts!
