BIG UPDATE: NEW RESPIRONICS PR Series Auto CPAP Released!
Re: BIG UPDATE: NEW RESPIRONICS PR Series Auto CPAP Released!
yeah- it is a lot lighter and easier to travel with- the bag is better also
it all can be taken apart- in my opinion after several weeks of use- it is a way better machine-
though to be honest the aflex worked every single day without fail and delivered proper therapy
fwiw I am getting slightly better results with PR - last download was at 1.9 AHI - my usaul with aflex 2.3

Is the aflex algorithm the same on both the M Series and the PR1?packer wrote:yeah- it is a lot lighter and easier to travel with- the bag is better also

Re: BIG UPDATE: NEW RESPIRONICS PR Series Auto CPAP Released!
I probably need to start by answer with an honest --" I dunno"
to me it is a little easier to breathe with- I say this because I lifted my bottom pressure up to 10.5
and still have no problems breathing against or with it- for me it adjusts to me-
I woke up this morning and remember reaching up [ while still half asleep] to see if
mask was on my face- literally breathing without notice of pressure
It sounds like some people don't like PR1- for me it works- and subjectively I would say it is a little faster
or softer or ??? whatever to call it-
I was given a leaf blower and a full face mask after sleep study and was going to quit 3 years ago but found this site-
the knowledge here and some great people in particular helped me to realize it didnt have to be terrible to do CPAP-
this new PR1 to me is the ultimate - as far away from the old blowers as technology has evolved so far-
that said- I did like the autoset also- check out when I was "demoing" both of them
my guess is a new machine is coming from resmed to compete with PR1- PR1 has more features for creature comfort Packer

Re: BIG UPDATE: NEW RESPIRONICS PR Series Auto CPAP Released!
It is not permanently attached, you can remove the cord. (also makes Battery operation possible)
Also, its worth noting, that one of the cables to the brick (cant remember if its the one from the wall to the brick, or the one from the brick to the machine) can detach from the brick if you want as well.
The brick has a nice rubber strap that wraps around the brick that is designed to hold the cords when you wrap them around the brick during travel. The Travel case works well and I have never had any trouble with airport security. They just do their little test on it and I'm good to go. The travel case has a separate area for both the tube and the power brick, so pulling out just the machine (with the attached humidifier) for security is quite easy.

Hello folks,
Nooob here
First a bit about me:
In October of last year I finally went to a "sleep doc" and he signed me up for 2 sleep evals, first was without a xpap machine the 2nd with, the first session was on Halloween. The lab wired me up and I went to sleep, they found 55 minutes for me to go to sleep, almost no stage N3 (not sure what this is), no REM, and an AHI of 88 arterial O2 dropped down to 72%, the seond session was with a lab tech conreollable xpap machine on me, they manually brought me up to a pressure of 13 and the results were A LOT better. My GP saw the report before my sleep dr follow up and said "No wounder you feel like a zombie", sleep DR wrote a script and pointed sent me to a medical supply company, one of these spiffy new REMstar Auto a-Flex System One doodads was waiting for me. This all happened inside of 1 month, thank god as I was starting to think shooting myself in the head was a better alternative then the walking dead, I know mine isn't as bad as many on this board but it was bad enough.
Since using the machine almost 100% since the first night, I am feeling much better, I'm still not jumping out of bed after 8, 12, or 14 hours of sleep, but I don't feel like a zombie when I am up. I still think it takes a long time to get to sleep, not sure what "a long time" is though as I do not clock watch. Overall I'm happy with the results so far and expect that with further adjustments to the treatment I will get to sleep sooner and get down to 8 hours.
About the machine:
1. I like that it is very quiet, but it is also hard to tell that it is on, even when it goes up to 15 unless the mask/face seal is leaking, which happens most nights, ever after cranking the straps down hard.
2. Mine has recorded large and small leaks. I expect that the "large" leak is from when the cat learned how to turn it on and the small leak was when the mask/face seal leaked of from the cat teeth holes on the main hose. Duct tape solved one of these problems
3. I haven't tried the humidifier yet, not sure how it will interact with my sinuses will it aggravate my allergies?
4. Something about it (still)attracts my to Bengal cats, even when I have it and the hose covered up with only a small space for the intake air hole. They have stolen all the filters and at least once pulled the power cord out. No banishing them from the bedroom is not a solution, they just hangout outside the door and CONSTANTLY inform me that "A terrible mistake has occurred and I am to fix it IMMEDIATELY!!" Still working on the cat/ pap machine interaction.
Is there still no progress on a user version of the reporting software? Can anybody recommend a SD card reader that I can purchase, I want to take a crack at reverse engineering the data files and writing my own software. The supply company had no problem giving me a copy of the report they generated form my sd card with the Respironics web app, I figure I can keep getting copies of the new reports so I have something to validate against.
When I power on my machine it displays v1.20 on the lcd screen, I did find the "super secret elite" menu but am unable to find the GMT offset, can anybody with that same version look and tell me where it is.
Can anybody describe how the machine keeps track of time and date and if there is any way to adjust it, computer clocks can have a surprisingly high rate of drift?
thanks for reading through all this

The following web page should help explain the "stages of sleep":emm wrote:... Basically they are divided into Non-REM (stages 1, 2, 3). They used to include 4 stages, but now the medical community combines 3 anr 4 into 3 (or deep sleep). There is also REM sleep, which you have probably heard about.
No stage N3 means you don't get any deep sleep or REM sleep. Your body and brain need both. In particular your heart rests during deep sleep and your body does a good bit of repair and replenishment during that stage. And as you know REM sleep serves as a way to process your experiences. No REM sleep can literally lead to serious problems.
Well, there's your problem! With an AHI of 88 your body just never gets the chance to get either deep sleep or REM sleep.emm wrote:... and an AHI of 88 ...
You realize that at 88% or below (if it was sustained and xPAP did not work), then supplemental O2 would be prescribed. As you might guess, it's not good for your body.emm wrote:... arterial O2 dropped down to 72% ...
It is bad enough. By the way, Welcome! Glad you came here. You'll find LOTS of information here.emm wrote:... My GP saw the report before my sleep dr follow up and said "No wounder you feel like a zombie" ... thank god as I was starting to think shooting myself in the head was a better alternative then the walking dead, I know mine isn't as bad as many on this board but it was bad enough....
It took a long time to reach this point, it may take a while (months) to get back to your new "normal".emm wrote:... Since using the machine almost 100% since the first night, I am feeling much better, I'm still not jumping out of bed after 8, 12, or 14 hours of sleep, but I don't feel like a zombie when I am up. ...
If it's not bothering you without it, you probably don't need it. However, it might help you sleep a bit better with some humidity in the therapy air. I recommend distilled water. With distilled water there is no need to dump it on a daily basis. Just "fill 'er up" and go.emm wrote:... I haven't tried the humidifier yet, not sure how it will interact with my sinuses will it aggravate my allergies? ...
Funny how they can react, isn't it? Others here might have some suggestions. Fortunately, hoses are fairly cheap. You may need to keep some extra parts (power cords and hoses).emm wrote:... Something about it (still)attracts my to Bengal cats ... Still working on the cat/ pap machine interaction. ...
It is coming sometime this year. I don't remember when. But plan on later rather than earlier. If it comes earlier then you can be pleasantly surprised.emm wrote:... Is there still no progress on a user version of the reporting software? ...

Welcome emm! The GMT offset is in the clinician's menu under setup. Since you mentioned knowing how to get to the "secret" menu, I won't go into that. When you scroll through the items you will find it at the very bottom.

You should set it as soon as possible too because it resets your AHI % averages on the LCD screen when you change it. (data on the card remains unaffected.)
Re: BIG UPDATE: NEW RESPIRONICS PR Series Auto CPAP Released!
Hello All!
Well I am now the proud user of this machine. I just received it today so besides trying it with masks today, I am a newbie with it.
My experience with the RT was interesting. She was extremely informative and seemed to know her stuff. A couple of things were annoying though. But thanks to this forum, I knew they may be coming. She, of course, showed me where the the SD card was but clearly instructed me that I cannot collect any data off of it. Instead I need to send the card to them starting in 3 weeks and then they will send the data to the dr. As others have expressed, I am annoyed that DMEs and Dr and companies won't allow us to have easier access to the information. So my first question is, how do PC users download the information off of their SD cards? And I am not sure how to see the data on a daily basis. How do I do that?
And the other annoying thing was she only gave me the user guides for the mask, and machine and not the set up guide for the machine. She clearly told me that I am not to touch that at all. But she soon realized that I was a curious person and would be looking anyway. Yet still did not leave the set up guide. So my second question is, is there a link or PDF file of the set up guide out there?
Anyway, I am excited to start using the machine and am amazed at how quiet and small it is. And for now we are starting out with a full face mask because I am getting over a cold and she'll be back next week to try nasal pillows.
Thanks!!!!

Our DME just got these, so if anyone gets one let me know what they think of them.

This probably sounds like a dumb question, and please dont take offense to this, but are you sure you have the PR System One? Maybe it would help if you listed out everything that does appear in the menu.emm wrote:nopeblakepro wrote:No other secret menus. you dont see anything that says "GMT" on it?emm wrote:blakepro wrote:bailachel wrote:Welcome emm!
