The mini ice age starts here

Double the thickness of your hose covers.
The bitter winter afflicting much of the Northern Hemisphere is only the start of a global trend towards cooler weather that is likely to last for 20 or 30 years,

Yep global warming is over for the North - melting ice has changed the oceans. But of course it wasn't real no no not real at all. We are no into the climate change version.

All that exterior plumbing in those old houses are going to a challenge in the UK.

I wonder if that means our winters will be more like they were when I was little or when my parents were little and it was cold and snowy in the winter? Isn't that what winter means cold snowy weather, summer is warm rainy weather.

I sure am glad I drive a big old pickup truck. That 8 foot bed will come in handy when all those environmentalists have a stroke and drop dead when their theories don't come true. Someone will have to pick them up and take them to the cemetery.

Actually they have come true with a vengeance, Now if the governments had listened to them 20 years ago...

Or, bring 'em out here. Lion food is expensive, and many of those Greens are also vegans, and therefore good eating.....

I read a book last month called 'Solar Cycle 24'

Veeeerrrrry interesting in regard to the world climate & it argues that we have been in a very warm solar cycle (#23) these solar cycles are the periods of warmth & cooling due to solar radiation cycles (# of sunspots) that can last 10s of years but the historic pattern is for a warm cycle to be followed by a cooling cycle & this book puts forward the data to make the case we are entering Solar cycle 24 which is predicted to be the start of a very cold period.

Climate change has been a big topic of debate here in Australia with politicians & academics going at it 'hammer & tongs' - Aust sent 105 delegates (biggest single contingent) to the Copenhagen conference.

It was -42 at my house this morning....ofcourse that's normal for this time of year.

So when global warming kills me in North Carolina, it will have warmed to what, -36F at your house? Plant some watermelons for the polar bears to eat.

Even though this is an anti-global-warming story in a conservative newspaper, every single climate scientist quoted believes that there is a long-term warming trend caused by the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. They think other climate scientists have exaggerated the amount of warming caused by manmade sources, but they all agree it exists.

The main source for the story is a Professor Mojib Latif, who says that global temperature change is greatly influenced by what he calls multi-decadal oscillations (MDOs). He thinks we are at the end of a 20 to 30 year upward phase in the cycle and beginning a 20 or 30 years of a downward phase. However, he thinks that these MDOs are only responsible for "between ten and 50 per cent" of the last century's warming. The cycle is superimposed on a long-term temperature increase, so we should expect an eroded stair-step pattern. He says, "For the time being, global warming has paused, and there may well be some cooling."

The other scientists quoted agree. Professor Anastasios Tsonis says that there is a background warming due to human activity that runs across the cycles. Professor William Gray, the biggest critic quoted, agrees that carbon dioxide causes global warming, but it might be as little as 5 to 10 percent of what has been measured. Despite the headline, none predicts a "mini ice age." What Professor Tsonis says (paraphrasing here) is that by the 2030s, just about the time some fool starts talking about a coming ice age, the MDO will shift and the warming will resume.

Climate scientists may disagree about the rate of long-term temperature increase caused by greenhouse gases, and they may find some of the politicians pushing the issue ignorant and shrill, but it is tough to find any who don't believe that we are experiencing manmade global warming. It's just a matter of how fast.

Yeah, well PST, if you'd been here in the Deep South feeling the Artic Blast that's ending now, you'd have thought it was a mini ice age too . Miserable cold! We're not equipped for that here, part of my street has been iced since last Thursday! It's been 5-dog nights that's for sure and I haven't a single one of those beasties!

And AKCPAPGUY, y'all are insane up there

That's not cold! We in Chicago call that a warm up for a character builder!

I have read several articles lately about scientists thinking they over estimated or were found to be fudging the numbers because they don't really know.

I have also read that a cow is just as bad for our atmosphere as a large suv if not worst. A cow puts out an incredible amount of gas a day.

DSM, I got sick of getting the solar cycle email updates and having no sun spot activity. I was wating for sunspot activity so that radio propagation would pick up again. Right now long range communication on amateur radio is down, as it pretty much follows th solar cycle.

Of course an ordinary cow produces only about half as much gas as a cow who uses CPAP.
