Buckwheat, buckwheat
I did try and search on this site for this but did not find exactly what I was searching for. There are a bunch of places to get these buckwheat pillows, but not knowing anything about them, and with no real place locally to get one or feel one, how do you decide where is the best and most cost effective place online to buy one? I read about organic this-n-that, dust on the hulls causing problems, etc and am not necessarily trying to buy the cheapest one out there, but also don'e want to drop $60 on one if I absoultely don't have to. Is there truly a big difference between say the Sobakawa (as seen on TV buckwheat pillow) and the Regenesis at Pur Sleep. I think even overstock.com sells the Pur Sleep pillow for a little less than the official Pur Sleep site. Ebay also has a bunch.
Is it a truly "you get what you pay for" item? Thanks in advance.

Re: Buckwheat, buckwheat
I own the original Regenesis pillow by PurSleep. It's the only one I've owned...so cannot offer any comparisons for you. I like the pillow, although it is the smallest pillow I've ever owned--I am taking advantage of the offer Bret made to upgrade to the new extra large size pillow, but have not received it yet. See this link....

Bret does offer a 30 day unconditional guarantee.......I'm guessing that there's not many other pillows with this customer service behind them.
The buckwheat does make noise when you rearrange it--but then it stays where you pushed it. It's certainly not bothersome--and I've never heard it at night. It's extremely comfortable when on your back--really supportive of your cervical area. It's seems a little hard or overly firm when you lay on your sides--but I also do not move much so I probably lay too long in one position.
The thing that sold me, was that I saw my numbers improve within the week of beginning to use the buckwheat pillow. I like this pillow--but do know that everyone is different and has different opinions and habits. Your can search this board and find many, many reviews. For years prior, I used a tempurpedic pillow--but found it too firm to be on my side etc because I'd dislodge the mask and create leaks. I never learned to stay on the edge to accomodate the mask.
Good luck with your decision

Yes?

I can't help with your buckwheat hull pillow decision. I love my TempurPedic pillow and haven't tried the hulls. Hopefully, others who've used different brands will chime in and tell you what their impressions are.
*Sorry, Brian. I'm in a silly mood today.

Brian--
First of all I am the creator of the Regenesis Pillow so of course I am biased. But with that said let me try to provide you with some information.
I set out to create a buckwheat hull pillow for CPAP patients because this type of pillow is not resilient--the stuffing doesn't push back, so it should be easy to conform it to the mask, right?
Well, in theory yes, but in practice the standard buckwheat hull pillow really leaves a lot to be desired.
So I made my own.
The quilted material is a vast improvement over anything else on the market. It provides a soft surface texture (with single layer canvas or muslin covers hulls are rough and rub me raw). The vertical side panels provide a three dimensional space for either side sleeping or back sleeping. Hulls will readily slosh around but with direct pressure they stay put.
The hulls are triple cleaned, dust free, hypoallergenic supplied by the largest mill in North America--the best of the best. I have not seen any negative feedback on the quality of the hulls.
The overstock offering comes without the case. The XL version on the website also comes without a case. The standard version on the website comes with the case--that's the primary difference with Overstock.

I love, love, love, love my Regenesis pillow. Love it. I've reviewed it a couple of times here already. I will never stop saying how much I love it.
Re: Buckwheat, buckwheat
Down at one of the malls in Ottawa someone had a buckwheat kiosk setup in one of the main hallways just prior to the holidays... what is all the fuss over buckwheat pillows anyways? My standard pillows seem to work fine.

Re: Buckwheat, buckwheat
I guess I should've purchased a Regenesis buckwheat hull pillow!!!
Instead, I purchased one elsewhere and it really hurts my head and neck. It's too hard. I wish it would've worked for me. Since I can't put my head on it comfortably, I use mine to snuggle with and put my arm over.

Re: Buckwheat, buckwheat
Actually the nicest one I had was made of barley. You could heat it in the micro wave and use it that way. Unfortunately my partner said it smelled to much of "barn" when heated. Now the scent for me was "cuddly kid holiday on farm " feeling but for her it was "cleaning out the stalls" so it had to go.

I purchased on from Amazon.com (Target) for $20. It is small, but just what I wanted. Be sure to check sizes if you want a regular sized one. Most I saw were small.

I have been listening up on this and watching what everyone has said for a while. I think I may order one for myself for my birthday.

I can't tell any difference. I have bad dust mite and mold allergies and I didn't notice any increase. (Of course I do live in the worst part of the country for allergies according to weather .com) LOLGerryk wrote:I have been listening up on this and watching what everyone has said for a while. Re: Buckwheat, buckwheat
I've not heard of this. I checked out the Pur-Sleep site and $50 does not seem out of line for a pillow. Not that I'm made of money, but it seems like a reasonable risk. I'm going to research this some more. Sounds intriguing. I like to sleep on a couple of pillows and I'm side sleeper. I can definitely relate to the pillow pushing the mask and causing a leak. Years ago I got one of the thermapeutic pillows from Brookstone I think that was $80 and did not live up to my expectations.

Re: Buckwheat, buckwheat
I bought one of those buckwheat pillows back when the infomercial first came on a zillion years ago. I found it at the bottom of my closet yesterday.
Obviously, that one didn't work, because I don't sleep in the closet normally.
