Rescan Software

Post by qjosea » Wed Dec 16, 2009 12:47 pm

I installed the software and bought a RS232 F to F DB9 Cable and cannot get my computer to recognize my machine. I have powered off the computer, then restarted it connected the cable to my machine, turned the xpap and my computer has not recognized it yet. I have tried everything I know, can anyone help with some insight into what may be causing this. My equipment info is listed on the bottom of this posting.
Thanks,

qjosea,

Well, it is possible the HP computer does not see the serial port. You may need to shutdown your computer and enter the BIOS menu. You can see if it can be enabled from the BIOS menu. However, I need to warn you that sometimes with XP, I have seen times when XP did not want to recognize a serial port on the device, regardless of the BIOS settings. In those cases, I purchased a serial to USB adapter to allow me to connect a serial device to my computer. An example is:

And that is exactly what I had to do to connect my ASV to my HP laptop to read the data via the serial port.

Can you try any other device on the serial port just to see it works ?

I have several XP based notebooks & servers & all seem to recognise the ports ok + I can connect Vpap III, S7 Spirit & Vpap Auto SV - when I run Rescan it always sees any of these using std null modem db-9pin f-to-f cable.

Good luck.

That is why the computer world has evolved to USB & Firewire, because of the flaky Serial connection game. Your serial ports need to be enabled in the BIOs, Then it played and played with, until it works, or you give up and buy a USB card reader. Jim

Jim, in this case the user may need to get a serial to USB adapter. The machine does not have a card. It has a DB9 Serial port on the back of the machine. I use one of those adapters to connect my machine to my laptop to read the data off the machine.

qjosea,

After checking the BIOS, as suggested by JohnBFisher, open the XP device manager and verify that the com port is enabled and that its settings are correct. The speed, data bits, parity, stop bits and flow control should match the VPAP's com requirements, which should be in your documentation. If you need more help, just ask.

am pretty sure the Resmed software works out & sets the speed. have never had to set any values for the serial port myself.
also have used AutoScan 3.0 thru to the ResScan 3.7 & have always just plugged the null-modem cable in (done this with over
5 different S7 based models) & it has always detected them. I have used those same serial ports for communicating at other
speeds with a Nellcor SpO2 device. As said, the software sets the port to the required settings & signals the flow processor.

My 1st suspect would be the cable that was provided. 2nd suspect would be the serial port setting (these are normally active
by default, but I tend to use com1. I'll try to get some time this w/e to look at the various versions of the software & how
they set the port.

No, need to run the Resscan on an Windows OS. But I run it very successfully with Boot Camp partition with XP on my mac.
Still, its worth a try on your wife's machine, but I recall some folks having a challenge on Vista.

When you turn on the machine, does the intital screen show the last average pressure you used (or pressure:0 if it after noon)? If it does, press exit to get to the screen which say "Settling:ON" (of off, as the case may be) and "menu" on the left and "exit" on the right. The machine won't communicate with the computer when it's showing recent pressure info.

The can get rid of that by changing the "auto" or "autoappear" in the smartdata options menu to off. It's counter intuitive, but this option does not change the settings.

Finally got Rescan software to work. For those who have problems and don't want to purchase the cable to download date from ResMed Vpap Adapt SV. I went to Radio Shack others can choose to purchase from another source, you will need to DB 9 Cable Female to Female cable (RS 232) and a null modem adapter. The cable is $19.98, and the Null Modem is $10.99 which by the way is less expensive that $63.00 plus S/H is you get it from the net. It works, I was able to download my date and if need arises I can make any adjustments on my machine. Thanks to this site, I have found that any need for advise that arises can be found just by posting the question on this site.
