OH! NO! Rita is heading my way!
Well, it looks like the hurricane gods are either not finished with the NO refugees, or the gods want to test the Texans nettle and see how fast WE evacuate but the new tract is for it to be CAT. 3 or 4 and hit Galveston which is on the coast a few miles down from Houston. What a mess that will be?
Anybody want to have the conference next weekend in say Minn. or MI? I may be able to make it

They are preparing an evacuation plan forf Galveston. If the storm progresses and they think it will, they will do a voluntary evac. tomorrow for Galveston followed the nest day by mandatory. I live 75 miles north of the coast but on a lake on the water so I am worried about rainfall amounts. A catagory 1 or 2 or a low 3 and I ride it out, have numerous times in my life here but catagory 4 or 5, and I am out of here. Already have made reservations in OK. I will not be one of the ones they have to rescue

R&R,
I hope L Conroe doesn't get hit. Too nice a place. But am guessing that the area doesn't have a bad history for cyclonic damage (not like say Nagshead or Killdevil Hills or Kittyhawk )
Speaking of cyclones and vulnerable areas, I never could understand why people buy property on the outer banks on NC & SC (who would want to insure them ?).
But whatever happens, good luck in L Conroe.

Have you ever been there? It's really beautiful and VERY relaxing. I've spent a few vacations there...rented a house...don't think I would ever "invest" in a house there though.dsm wrote: I never could understand why people buy property on the outer banks on NC & SC (who would want to insure them ?).
Being a private pilot & while based in Cary, I could not want to go there (Kittyhawk -- a pilgrimage). Yes very pretty except when Rita's sisters show upyawn wrote:dsm wrote: Have you ever been there? It's really beautiful and VERY relaxing. Brings me back as to why people keep rebuilding there. IIRC just up the coast a ways & on the banks is a whole resort complex worth 100s of millions that has ended up (or soon will) as crab hotel
The edge of the banks seems just to unstable.
