I'm with 2flamingos. I don't have any problem with the brick. The only thing is that is a little extra when travelling. Other than that, it sits there!

Sorry that was my Guest post, work keeps loging me out randomly.

Anyway, the PRI series humidifier actually monitors the humidity level and depending what setting you have it on will vary the heater temp to maintain that humidity. Yes this is the same concept used by F&P in their system, Resmed does not use this system. Both the M series and the S8II series use the old system of setting the actual heater plate temp setting.

Well ...... there is one other thing. You can unplug the brick and throw it at your spouse or anyone else that makes you mad without damaging your machine.

This machine does look interesting although I'm not sure about the power brick.

Why is everyone calling it the PRI? I downloaded a brochure (not available on cpap_com so I haven't posted here) and it seems to be called the PR (as in Philips Respironics) SYSTEM ONE REMSTAR AUTO. Considering the M Series Heated Humidifiers I'm most excited about the "dry box" humidifier although I'm not really sure how that will work.

Looks like the initials for this new model DS550 stand for "Phillips Resprionics System One Auto" or PR1. But we were all communicating - right - so no harm, no foul, no problem.

'bout the brick...yes travel with it would be an issue for me as well. I go out of state twice monthly with so much needed gear that one more thing isn't appreciated. Then again, gotta give a little to get a little.

And apnez will hang onto your thoughts on the software issue (thanks for them!) or may have to shift my focus.

Yes, Apparently it's called the the "PR" (model DS550S) - PR Auto CPAP with Flex Technology. Originally, cpap.com had it listed wrong. They now show it are the PR.

The actual name is: PR SYSTEM ONE REMSTAR AUTO CPAP

The PR Auto CPAP with Heated Humidifer is Model DS550HS.

I am editing all my previous posts to reflect this.

Although no official reply from Respironics about the software. I did have an interesting conversation with a supplier who told me that an new version of Encore Viewer was in the works. She claims a Respironics rep told her that.

We shall see. I will believe it when I see it or hear it directly from Respironics. Why would they deliver a new machine without the software being available?

Oh, she also stated: that this machine will replace the current Auto M with A-Flex and that when current inventory is gone, that machine will no longer be made. Look for more models to come out and replace the existing product line.

HA! I have attempted to unplug that brick several times, to ease travelling. I can't get it unplugged. Is there a trick to it?

Me, I'm short tempered. I think I wouldn't bother unplugging it. I'd just throw the whole damned thing.

LOL,
B.

They will be releasing about 1 model a month and plan to have the whole new series line out by the end of Dec. Yes these are replacing the M series, and they will cease production of the M series line.

So Respironics has released a new, update to the M-Series Auto. Let's see how they did with the needed-improvements list:

M-Series Updates needed:

1 leaky humidifier destroys xpap > addressed in later versions of M series. Improved in PRI?
2 blue light from hell > addressed
3 awkward power brick > NO
4 noisy machine > improved but still behind the competition
5 humidifier too small > changed?
6 uses proprietary smart card > change to SD card instead of USB. NOT an improvement
7 apap is too large > new machine is larger!
8 improved data collection > addressed? But, new software is unavailable to user

Respironics also has added tracking of humidity rather than humidifier temperature.

It's clear that they've not been reading this forum to see how their products are perceived by those who buy them.

I had been waiting for their next product release before buying my next APAP. I travel a lot and they've done nothing to improve their apap in the areas that count for me. Nos. 3 and 7 above were important to me. Nos. 6 and 8 are deal breakers. Nos. 2, 4 and 9 are the only gains.

With this unimpressive performance, I think I'll be looking for an end-of-line price break on the M-series. In my opinion, the realized upgrades are not worth the added cost for the PRI series.

However, I will wait a bit to see some reviews by those who have used this new machine.
I'm workin' on it.

Your efforts are very much appreciated, HoseHead. There is always a rush to the new products, assuming we will find Nirvana. Sad that the changes just don't seem to balance out in the positive column so far. I am not sure what #9 was that you referred to as a gain, but I can only see that the reduction of the blue lights are an improvement. Wow. Hard to imagine that these companies are so out of touch with the actual results of their creations and the identified needs for improvements.
DeVilbiss IntelliPap Std Plus with Smartflex; Transcend miniCPAP & Everest2 w/humidifier & batt for travel. UltraMirage FFM; PadACheeks; PaPillow. Using straight CPAP at 13.0/passover humidifier. AHI consistently < 1.5. Began CPAP 9/4/08.

I agree. For me (since I don't travel much.... the brick is not a deal breaker.
