Is there anywhere to list a mask you are looking for?

Post by Cassandra » Sun Aug 16, 2009 2:09 pm

I have been window shoppng at the cpap auction site. I'm using a nasal pillow mask. I want to get a full face mask. I have recently started mouth breathing. (Something I have never done before!) I tried chin strapping and taping. I end up pulling the tape off almost as soon as I fall asleep. Air puffs out of my lips no matter what I do. I am going to try the denture cream. This has only been going on a few days and already I am miserable. I can't wake up in the morning, my head hurts, I ache all over and generally feel awful.

Nice reminder what it felt like before I starting using cpap a couple of months ago, huh?

I can't afford a brand new one at the moment. I went through the sizing thing and have the list of which ones I could wear. Are we allowed to say on the forum that we are in the market for one? I have to get up at five o'clock in the morning whether I feel like it or not!

Thanks.
Cassandra

There is a thread somewhere that offers some masks for test drives. Go ahead and mention which mask peaks your interest. It might be one of those or someone may have given up on one and offer it for test driving. Or might have one that is gently used they would part with for a nominal fee.

On another forum, please will list wanted or for sale items in their signature. How well would that be received on this forum?

It's been done (at least when it comes to trades). If you're going to do that... make sure you post something somewhere though, not everybody reads everybody's signatures.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I haven't seen anything I could use yet (that is the right size and covers my mouth), but I will keep checking.

mdintx: Would you PM me that other forum so I can go look, if you don't mind?

Muse, a couple of nights ago, I woke up with a raspberry sound coming from between a small corner of my lips. I mean it went on steadily for a few seconds. If I hadn't been so sleepy, I'm sure I would have burst out laughing. I am leaning towards that hybrid you mentioned.

I am starting to dread going to bed and getting up again. I don't like it!

When I heard that, I thought the machine was stuttering-malfunctioning but as I wokeup I realized that sound was coming from me! Finally penetrated my mental fog...I had the dreaded loose lips syndrome.

Cassandra,

The other forum was not a CPAP-related. So it wouldn't do any good to forward it.

I do have a Mirage Liberty for sale (small with all of the nasal pillows sizes). I only used it one night. PM if you're interested.

Cassandra, I have a UM-med FFM that I will never use again.
It was part of my Odyssey of the Mask.
I used it for about two weeks.

If you think you could use it, I would be happy to send it to you.

Geeze, you guys are always so helpful and generous.

I have made arrangements to try a couple of different masks (different types and sizes.) Hopefully one of them will be just right. If either one of them or both of them won't fit, I can pass them on or put them in the swap and maybe trade for something else to try. I will post back here how it goes.

In the mean time, I bought some athletic tape today. It is supposed to be secure and comfortable. Has anyone ever tried that for mouth tape? I gather it's the stuff football players wrap around their ankles. Maybe I won't be so quick to pull it off.

I overslept an hour this morning! Had twenty minutes to get my little dressed, fed, and on the school bus. gheh

I slept all night with the athletic tape on. It was in fact more comfortable. After a few hours, the humidity made it loosen up some, so I could still push air out. But it took some effort, so I think maybe when I was in a deep sleep the mouth puffing probably wasn't too much. I was still aware of it, though. I remember waking up a few times... poking at it and testing it. It wasn't terrible this morning when I pulled it off, but I am feeling a little exfoliated where it used to be sticking. LOL

If you haven't read about using Milk of Magnesia with your taping procedure, try it. Put a thin layer of MoM on your face where the tape will adhere, and let it dry. Then apply your tape. The MoM doesn't seem to make the tape any less effective, but it does make for easier removal in the morning.

I'm not sure if it'll work the same way with athletic tape, but it helped me with the gentle paper tape from Nexcare.
