Are you still using C-FLEX?

Post by WillSucceed » Mon Sep 12, 2005 6:49 am

Based on discussion in other threads, I'm curious to know how many of you are still using C-FLEX after getting fully settled in with treatment. I'm wondering if C-FLEX is a marketing ploy, an aid to help users get acclimatized to treatment or, a feature that really helps treatment in an ongoing well after the user is settled into treatment.

You decide whether or not you are fully settled in with treatment and comment, please on whether or not you still need/like C-FLEX.

Good morning WILL:

To answer your interesting question these are my experiences:

been on cpap over 11 years the last year and a half on the PB420 fixed pressure machine at 18 cm H2O.

moved up to the remstar auto w/c-flex in july because of the difficulty breathing against that high fixed pressure all those years and c-flex seemed to be the answer!

IT IS THE ANSWER FOR ME! i have settled in on a range of 16 to 20 with the c-flex at 3 (most relief) i had tried all three settings and 3 is the best for me and continues to be the best setting for me. and yes it continues to provide good ongonig comfort and treatment for me.

i also know you have both the PB auto and remstar and you like the PB the best but i went for the c-flex/pressure relief due to the high 18 i have. i am sure if the c-flex is not wanted/needed the PB would be a great machine too as you say!

thanks for your many interesting/informative posts!

my best to you,
steve,

C flex

Post by Pamela444 » Mon Sep 12, 2005 7:22 am

I'm using cflex, but honestly, it's my first cpap and I'm pretty new. It works great for me, so I can't imagine ever changing to another.

I am using C-flex as well, with my Remstar Auto set at
6/19, I have had no problems at all...I am going into my
third week on C-Pap and it has been great all the way..

I started out using the Ultra Mirage FF, that was great, no
leaks. I am now using the Mirage Swift, that is great...
I look forward to bedtime everynight, and usually sleep
like a babe and feeling lots better....Thanks to you all
here with your great advice....

Will

I have been on cpap since Jan. 05 and I definitely need Cflex set at 3.
I have tried not to use it but I find I can not breathe out a full breath of air normally. It feels very strained on the exhale and then I am starting to breathe in too early and it becomes rushed. Without the use of Cflex my breathing is not a normal relaxed breath which would allow me to fall asleep.

Okay, WS...leave it to me to be the odd woman out. I stopped using Cflex. Didn't really need it and found my treatment results better without it. My titrated pressure is 10, although now on auto 8-12. It started to work great (auto) now, after my mini-disaster a couple of weeks ago. Guess it wasn't the auto, but something else as a lot of people were trying to tell me.

But, anyway, all it took was one night with stacked breaths and I was through. I figured if I didn't need it, and that can happen, I don't want to use it. I do just fine without it, so I keep mine off.

Hey Will......how ya doin'?

Yep.....still using C-FLEX. I haven't changed settings since day 1. I could probably do without it as a setting of 10 isn't a real high amount of pressure to breathe against, but it's just that it FEELS more like a natural breathing pattern when I exhale with it on......if that makes sense.
I have a RAMP setting, but don't use that feature.....just the "auto on" which starts up the machine at my setting of 10 after a few breaths into the mask.

Have a good one.

Will:

what Den (wulfman) just said in the previous post also goes for me! his description of a more natural breathing pattern with the c-flex is perfectly stated--i just didn't word it as good as Den. Wulfman's description of things and the points he wants to make are so clear and concise i just love reading everthing he posts! thanks Den!!!

best to all,
steve,

I have to agree with the majority here - I'm still a newbie (day 12), but I use the C-Flex (on 2 - changed it from 3 a few days ago), plus the DME has the ramp feature set for 20 minutes (may change that in the future).

Been fighting leaks a lot lately (I'm a side sleeper), but wasn't sure whether the C-Flex increased or decreased leaks. I'd be interested in anyone else who've been fortunate enough to eliminate leaks. Think that will make a big difference in how I feel! Thanks!

Lori,

From the picture at the bottom of her post, it looks like she's using the Comfort Gel.

Carla,

I don't THINK that the C-FLEX would have any affect on leaks.
Is there anything you might have changed lately that has caused the increase in leaks? I'm not familiar with the Comfort Gel masks to make too many recommendations. If it's pretty tight, you might try loosening it a bit or vice-versa. The leaks I get are not consistent.....so I don't know if it just happens to be "restlessness" or what. I don't get too concerned unless I see a LARGE leak for an extended period of time.....like maybe my head moved and my mask didn't......or if I pulled it off during the night without shutting off the CPAP first (which I haven't done for some time).

I use c-flex set at 3 and consistantly acheive residual AHIs of 1 or less. My auto with c-flex provides therapy with considerably greater comfort than the non-c-flex machines I've used.

Sincerely,

I have constant cpap pressure of 9, not very high. Started cpap therapy 6 mo. ago. Have turned my c-flex down to 1 (have used settings of 3 and 2) and have tried other machines without c-flex and don't really miss it either way. Neither does hubby who now uses a little S8 Escape (12 cmH2O) when we are on the boat. I have a problem with mouth leaks and have been taping mouth with Nexcare Sensitive Tape. Will be looking for some Tegaderm to try.... I don't know whether there is any connection between mouth leaks and c-flex. Probably not for ME as I had mouth leaks even on machines without c-flex.

I do, however, believe that c-flex was very helpful in the beginning when cpap therapy was so FOREIGN and perhaps a little scary. Helped to achieve relaxed breathing? Nice that it CAN be turned off if desired.

Can't say that I've ever experience "stacked breaths."

For that matter, I couldn't live without ramp in the beginning either, but now I really don't need to use it. I like to start out at full pressure at least to make sure that I have a good seal. Then I sometime hit ramp. Hubby thinks it's good to use ramp always. I use the Swift most of the time and love it. Sometimes Activa, another great mask. Curious about Comfort Curve....

Yes, I'm still using C-Flex.

I did weeks and weeks worth of experiments and tried 3, 2, 1, and off. Initially I was micro-managing and making adjustments when I saw even the tiniest change in AHI... quickly came to my senses and got over that nonsense of being concerned with the minutia..... I have discovered C-Flex at 3 provides me with the most comfort.

BTW last night with Activa, straight CPAP at 13, C-Flex at 3, my AHI was 1.0!!
