Wondering how many use their ramp????
Re: Wondering how many use their ramp????
I used ramp at its inital lowest and longest setting for about one week and then increased the initial setting to 6 and 5 minutes for perhaps a month. Now I simply start at 10 without any ramping and find it much more tolerable.
Machine: Resmed Platinum II Autoscore (probably equivalent to Elite II)
Humidifier: H4i
Mask: Activa LT mask

Re: Wondering how many use their ramp????
I used it for a day or two till I found out how to turn it off - even at my normal pressure (10cm) I sometimes feel as though I'm not getting enough air when I've just climbed into bed, and ramp was way worse.
Even during my sleep study, I can remember feeling claustrophobic because I felt I wasn't getting enough air from the machine, but the sleep tech seemed to expect only that people would be bothered by too much pressure, not too little.

Started out using ramp. Stopped within a couple of weeks. I do fine starting without it.

As the late Snoredog was known to say - using ramp is kinda like training wheels. It can help our bodies get used to sleeping this new way, during the transition phase. Set to low it can allow events to occur or result in the newbie who can NOT get enuff air and doesn't understand why. This can lead to not wearing the CPAP any longer.
It was Snoredog wasn't it? Or was it Goofproof? Anyway I remember the training wheel analogy.

I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Same here. I used it for about a week when I first started, then I shut it off.

Very first time I put on my mask w/the ramp, I couldn't breathe. Shut it off then and haven't had a problem since.

I also have never used the ramp, even when I started over 14 years ago at a setting of 18cm pressure and no humidifier!

Why don't you go up to the Search line and put in "training AND wheels" and see what comes up....... Actually, the analogy goes back further than I thought and about a number of other things besides Ramp.

PS. I've never used Ramp

Re: Wondering how many use their ramp????
I've never used mine because I had a titrated pressure of 7. My APAP was set at a bottom of 5, which was already too low. I bumped it up to 5.5 before I went to sleep the first night.
Re: Wondering how many use their ramp????
Interesting to me (2-week Noob) that these machines have all of these advanced features like ramps, C-Flex, A-Flex, APAP, etc., but I keep reading that many people on here end up turning them off.
Re: Wondering how many use their ramp????
The ramp feature really helped me adjust to the notion of being tethered to a machine in the beginning.
Training wheels is a great analogy. Really useful for me at the time, but then soon enough, not needed.
I stopped using the ramp feature after a few weeks.

Re: Wondering how many use their ramp????
My understanding is that my Resmed S8 autoset II makes no attempt to adjust or record data while in the ramp mode. I have mine set for 20 minutes for that reason since I am usually reading or watching TV and only want sleep data recorded. Have I made an erroneous assumption??

Re: Wondering how many use their ramp????
I turned mine off the second or third night. But I think it is a good tool to use for people who are having a hard time adapting, no matter the pressure.
Re: Wondering how many use their ramp????
I'm not a ResMed user, but I think the "Settling" time (setting) was when it didn't record data in the Autoset machines.engransan@gmail.com wrote:My understanding is that my Resmed S8 autoset II makes no attempt to adjust or record data while in the ramp mode.
