Chin up strips revisited

Post by preemiern » Fri May 01, 2009 2:34 am

Finally got around to checking my mail before I crawl off to bed and found my chin up strips that I had ordered. I haven't used them before, but thought I would check them out and see how they work in comparison to taping. Will let you all know how they work tomorrow. For now I'm gonna go eat a banana and go to bed!!

You go to bed at 4:30 AM???

Are you a vampire monkey?

(Good luck with the strips...and the banana)

OK--after the first night with the chin up strips, I am impressed!! The thing actually worked. I was not able to open my mouth unless I tried really hard. It is much lighter weight than tape, and once you get it in the correct position, it just kind of molds itself to your face. I would say they are definitely worth the money!!

Sounds like something deserving of a link:

And here's a devoted fan who must have used
those things until he was blue in the face:

Thanks SWS!! It definitely does deserve a link. I mean, I was really skeptical. I had seen these things on some site a long time ago, and thought yeah, right...but this time I thought what the heck...it's 14 bucks, lets see if they work. Now I've only used them one night so far, but my mouth stayed closed all night. No leaks and my AHI was 1.2

If I may ask which ones did you order? The White ones or the Tan? Any problem getting them off?

do you think they'd help with my "blowfish" situation?
i don't actually open my mouth, just let out some air when the pressure goes up -- just when it's most important to keep a tight lip...

Yes--I am still VERY happy with my chin up strips. Getting ready to order another package of them so I don't run out!!
They do help with the blowfish effect. When they are on properly, they actually help keep the tongue positioned up against the roof of my mouth, and behind my upper teeth. This elimainates the blowfish effect, as air is prevented from moving in and out of the mouth.
Try this...
place your tongue against the roof of your mouth, behind your top teeth. Open your lips, keeping your tongue in place, plug your nose and try to breathe. You can't do it. The strips help to keep your tongue in this position. Also when the strip is in correct placement, I cannot open my mouth.
The strips are very forgiving also. If I don't get it placed correctly the first time, I can remove the strip and try again, and it stays sticky. Tonight when I get one on, I'll take pics to post. I can't exactly explain how to place it correctly, but maybe with a pic I can.

Any pic's to post yet?

I'm am thinking about trying these. Anyone Else try them? Like them? Didn't work for anyone?

I wounder if you can buy a smaller amount than a 30pack, but I might just spend the $15 for 30 to give it a try. That an shipping will end up being a higher percentage of the cost in small quantities.

I'm experimenting with a roll of 2-in adhesive tape and a pair of scissors...

So you are doing a 'rool your own' version of the chin-up strip?

Keep us posted with your results.

LinkC,
Great minds think alike

I had been using this great 2" cloth tape that is perforated at 4" intervals.

http://www.amazon.com/Medipore-Soft-Clo ... hpc_text_b

After reading about the chin up strips, I decided to cut a half moon shape out of the 4" piece (to go just under my lower lip). I've been using this for 7 days, now, and it works great. My leaks have not increased over taping over my mouth. And I can talk and sip through a straw when I need to. The only drawback is now I can feel the Activa sitting on my upper lip.

I don't know why this wouldn't work with any 2" tape.
