I had been using this great 2" cloth tape that is perforated at 4" intervals.
http://www.amazon.com/Medipore-Soft-Clo ... hpc_text_b
After reading about the chin up strips, I decided to cut a half moon shape out of the 4" piece (to go just under my lower lip). I've been using this for 7 days, now, and it works great. My leaks have not increased over taping over my mouth. And I can talk and sip through a straw when I need to. The only drawback is now I can feel the Activa sitting on my upper lip.
I don't know why this wouldn't work with any 2" tape.
Bev
That tape looks exactly like the tape that the white chin up strips is made from. I may just order myself a roll and cut my own too...and they are cut from 2 inch wide tape, so it should work just as well. As far as the mask sitting on my upper lip now, I feel like I get a better seal from my mask as it kind of sticks to my skin. My AHI's are definitely lower, and my IPAP pressures are lower as well.

I'm am thinking about trying these. Anyone Else try them? Like them? Didn't work for anyone?
I wounder if you can buy a smaller amount than a 30pack, but I might just spend the $15 for 30 to give it a try. That an shipping will end up being a higher percentage of the cost in small quantities.
No pics to post yet...I'm camera shy, but will try to get pics tomorrow night after I finish my weekend of working. I just ordered two packs of 30 and by ordering two packs, I got free shipping. If they don't work for you, I will buy them from you so you can try them and know you can get your money back if they don't work out for you. But give them a good try first...I am a believer in them now!!

I like this 3M micropore cloth tape because it is soft, no sharp edges. It pulls off without any pain, although it does leave some sticky residue on my face, but I'd rather deal with that than have pieces of my face stick to the tape when I pull it off. One night I was too tired to cut out my wedge and used the tape from the previous night. It stuck just as well. Can you use the chin ups twice?

I haven't tried to use one two nights in a row, but think I will give it a try. When I first got them, it took me a little practice to get them on effectively, and I could peel them off and reuse the same strip until I got it on effectively.

Thanks for starting this thread, preemiern. It's good to know there are alternatives to chinstraps besides taping over one's mouth (which wasn't a good experience for me) or wearing a FFM (also not good for me).

Hi, Bev.
Thanks for your input in this thread. I looked at the link you provided earlier for this 3M micropore tape. It appears to be a much more cost-effective option than the ChinUp strips, and that's appealing. And if each piece could be used twice, that's even better.
What do you use to remove the sticky residue from your face?

BB,
When I wash my face in the morning, I just kinda roll it into a pile and take it off onto the washcloth. A little practice and it is no big deal. Then I moisturize with pure shea butter. If there is any residue left, that makes it easy to roll off.
This tape is really strog stuff. I'm going to try the same tape for three nights and see if it holds. I am using the Respironics Premium Chinstrap now, so it helps hold everything together. I really like this chinstrap. It hasn't slipped off even once, and between the Activa sitting on my top lip and the chinstrap coming up to the bottom lip, I have a near perfectly straight leak line.

Thanks, Bev. Removal sounds simple enough.
Just to clarify, are you using the 3M tape
in place of or
in addition to your chinstrap? From my recent APAP trial, it would appear my chinstrap is doing what it's supposed to do. I'm thinking of trying the tape instead.
I'm due for a new chinstrap next month and am planning on getting the Respironics Premium this time. Glad to know it's working well for you.
P.S. Happy Mom's Day!

Hi, am I relatively new to the board and have been trying (with mixed results) to find solutions to my mouth leak problem. I have been through 4 masks already to get the right fit and have started using the Swift LT, which I absolutely LOVE (thank you CPAP.com). I cannot handle a full face or even a nose mask. I am only comfortable with nasal pillows and the lighter headgear. I desperately want to keep using my Swift LT but need to solve this mouth leak issue. It sounds like a chin strap or perhaps these strips are the only alternatives? Would increasing the pressure help? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I use the chinstrap AND tape. But I might not need to do both with this chinstrap. I definitely needed tape with the Cpap Cap. I'm not brave enough to try one without the other again. I wake up with every little thing and mouth leaks are most annoying.
Thanks for the Mom's Day wishes. It's 9:20 pm and I haven't heard from either of my children

Welcome to the forum!
It sounds as though you should try a chinstrap or the strips, or maybe both, as I do. Increasing the pressure would have an even worse effect on the mouth breathing. The higher the pressure, the more likely the leak.

Thanks for the add'l info. I think I'll order the Premium Chinstrap and see how it works for me. Maybe I'll try the tape, too. It'd be nice not to have to wear the strap if the tape holds. I've used the micropore tape, but it hurts when I pull it off in the morning. The Medipore sounds like a better option.

You're welcome, and I'm sorry! My mother would have my head on a platter if I didn't call...

Just adding an observation.
I cut a "big robot smile" out of the 2" micropore last night and applied it like they show in the directions for the chinup strips.
Lowest leak I've had in WEEKS!
Warm wash cloth on face for a few seconds.... came right off. I don't think it ripped out even one mustache hair
I may make this a nightly ritual

I think we are on to something!
Can somebody try it with the blue painter's tape and see how that works? The edges of that stuff are too sharp for me.

I tried placing three strips of 3M tape in the shape of the horseshoe. It still allowed air to escape, and did nothing against lip flutters.
Does the actual chin up product (white horseshoe shape) actually prevent lip fluttering?
Thanks,
Joy
