OT: True Mom Confessions

Post by Babette » Wed Apr 08, 2009 4:09 pm

OMG... I'm not even a MOM and I love this site:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... =102880681

http://www.truuconfessions.com

The one about leaving the kid barf for the dog to eat was PRICELESS! It made me think of Froro's horror story from last week. Or was it the week before?

Hope it gives some of you a chuckle, or at least a confessional!!!!!

Cheers,
Barbara

To the ever creative Babette,

You do find some interesting things to think about.

I"m a Mom to three - all grown now. But you don't have to be a Mom to recall the moments when you are sick and tired of something you have to do over and over.

I once volunteered for a job that I occasionally called the "Job from Hell" Promise not to tell anyone, but I was a Cub Scout Leader for more years than I can stand to recall. When you have a bunch of little boys coming to your house, or you are taking them to an event, you would do anything to get out of it for a week. You haven't lived until you have had soft drinks poured down your back as you are driving, accidentally of course. If you go to a park with the boys, you get more sand in your car, and in your hair, than you could find on a beach.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the boys, actually I enjoyed them. It was the stress of thinking of something new for them to do each week.Something creative and fun - or a project where they could actually learn something. After all, there are only so many items you can make out of a tuna fish can and an oatmeal box.

The reason I stayed with it so long was the Scout Committee couldn't get another parent to be the Cub Leader -
Jan

Darn, Jan now you are bringing back memories that I had supressed. I was a Weblos leader for 2 years and a Boy Scout Leader for 5 years and I only had a daughter. I had almost forgotten the fun times !

I'm not a mom either (thank god!). I use stuff like this as birth control.

Which is why you became a BOY scout leader - you missed BOYS.

I firmly believe this is why my dad - who was stuck with ME and my MOM - joined an ALL MALE barbershop chorus, and the primarily male Search & Rescue.

Mom of four here.....

....I TOTALLY let the dog eat the kid's vomit, more times than I can count.....
....I can only keep one level of my house clean at a time. That means if the downstairs is clean, don't even think about going upstairs.
....I have locked myself in the bathroom multiple times.....
....We taught our kids how to do the laundry and fold the laundry, not because we're great parents, but because we both hate doing laundry.
....We have cold cereal for dinner OFTEN, because I get tired of making dinner, and the kids are always happy to have cold cereal. It's a win-win, really.
....I send them all outside to play, and I don't really care what they do out there. Run in the street....get muddy...antagonize the neighbors...excavate the lawn....doesn't matter....AT LEAST THEY'RE NOT IN THE HOUSE WITH ME!

There, ladies. Enough birth control??

The thing with kids is, just when you least expect it, you get this weird upwelling of emotion when you look at your kiddos. (Mostly, though, it happens when they're asleep......)

Oh Vickie.... You forgot - when they're bad, you dress them up funny, including putting dresses on the boys, and make them parade around in public for an entire weekend that way.

My favorite birth control? A long hot sweltering reenactment weekend spent in a camp with multiple children, aged birth to 17 years old.

Huggers,
B.

Oh. My. Gosh. YES!! How could I forget about that?? (Easy, actually....we don't have any events until May....but I have a pile of petticoats and shirts next to the ironing board....just calling my name.)

Yikes. As a matter of fact, that reminds me of WHY you don't see a million families with small children re-enacting. At Christmas we were at our site from 8:30am to 9pm....um....very difficult, and the closest I will ever come to living in 1855. An amazing learning experience, but..yikes. Not something I want to do again soon. And I suspect the site employees would agree. Its all well and good to beg volunteers with families to come spend the day, but in reality, it drives them crazy to see the kids play with the fire....climb the trees....sit on the fences...chop the wood....dig holes for people to step in....catch the occasional snake unlucky enough to cross their path....

(I do think parents in 1855 spent less time beating themselves up about their parenting skills, though. They probably didn't hate time....Also- kids had a lot of responsibility at a young age- if you didn't work, you didn't eat. If you cut off your finger while chopping wood, well, then be more careful next time! If you got sunburned, then next time wear a hat!)

On the plus side....visitors LOVE seeing the kids all dressed up, especially when they *act* all respectful-like, saying "yes ma-am" and stuff....its the stuff of endless photo ops......

BTW, I have a nasal aire question....just a teeny hijack here...

Why does my nasal aire make so much noise when I breathe? It seems really loud. Any suggestions?? Like....um...start a new thread, I suspect!

It's only loud to YOU. I'll bet it's not any louder to your partner. I've listened to someone else masked up with the NAII and was surprised how quiet it is from the other side.

I think it's because those side hoses are right next to your ears. The noise of the air passing in and out of the exhaust ports transfers up the hoses and hits you smack in the ear.

It was odd to me at first, but it doesn't bother me now. And it masks the noisy neighbors.

Now don't get me wrong. I can HEAR, it just helps "mask" noises I don't WANT to hear. If I actively LISTEN, I can hear my boyfriend breathing at the other end of the apartment. And no, he doesn't snore loudly. I just lay at my end of the house listening for his breathing.

Also, some people buy FANS and play the RADIO in order to generate white noise so they can sleep. You got yours built in.

LOL,
B.

Excuse me Babette:

Jerry and I are reliving the great times in our lives. Anyway the times that are never to be forgotten. I get a crazed feeling if I start recalling some of the specific times - like dragging a bunch of little boys into the girls's bathroom to go "wee wee". Ah yes, Jerry, it was so much fun.
