I would like to weigh in on the H4i issue.

1. There is no such thing a Resmed Preferred Internet Provider - In December Resmed cancelled the progam and gave each dealer 7 days to remove the seal from their sites. If a dealer still has it posted and/or are holding themself out as a Resmed Preferred Internet Provider they are misrepresenting themself.

2. There is no such thing as a recall on the H4i heated humidifier. As a matter of fact Resmed has ceased to manufacture parts for the H3i and are selling a conversion kit to H3i users needin a new tank of lid. This will convert the H3I tyo using H4i parts here after.

I received the H4i with my Autoset II in January - it's the only CPAP gear I've had so far and the H4i seems to work just fine.

I have it set on 3; I keep my room fairly cold (perhaps 60-ish degrees F), and a full tank of water seems to last four or five nights.

It would seem a difficult piece of equipment to mess up during manufacture.

I was a tad concerned at the sensationalist title to the original post - the link you provided certainly dispels (for me) any justification for such a title !. I am inclined to suggest to 'hotdax' to think more carefully about the consequences of alarmist & highly speculative titles !. People around the world read this forum & such 'guesswork' isn't helpful.

Hi hotdax and everyone,
I have to admit I got a little concerned when I read the title of the the posting on the H4i. The reason...its my baby (although there was a few others involved), I have since left ResMed to go to the other side of Australia but still try to get the gossip on what happening (it was a great place to work) yet I hadn't heard any bad news about the H4i..so far. I hope you guys like the product as its one that I am particulary proud of.

First let me say I am not trying to be inflammatory towards ResMed or the provider. Yesterday morning was my 3rd night with the ResMed S8 & the H3i and upon wakening I realized that the H4i was better for me. At that point I started reading this forum and noticed that other people had the H4i. I entitled the post with the answer given to me by the provider a ResMed Preferred Internet Provider (more on the RPIP later). When I was looking online I noticed other online providers (ie cpap.com) did not sell the H4i either.

My intention is not to give ResMed a bad name - I love the product - but I want to know about the H4i. Someone suggested asking ResMed and I did that last night. I will call ResMed on Monday and post the answer.

As for the Resumed Preferred Internet Provider this program is promoted on the ResMed site. If you go to the ResMed homepage, click on Patients, then ResMed Internet Policies, you can clearly read the statement

"If ResMed products are not purchased online through a Preferred Internet Provider, ResMed cannot ensure that products are delivered safely to patients with accurate instructions regarding use or that products are not tampered with, mislabeled or misbranded."

along with other information. However ResMed does not provide a list on their authorized online dealers. Because we're using cpap.com as an example they say they are a RPIP but do not show the ResMed 'blue circle seal', while other sites do. Does this mean that sites without the 'blue seal' are unauthorized? The ResMed website is implying that and thus I decided to purchase the machine from a site that displays the ResMed blue circle seal.

Most of you are probably thinking I'm an idiot, that anyone can cut & paste the ResMed blue seal on their website and poof they are an authorized provider. What about those sites without the seal that say they are an "authorized provider"? How do you know they really are? You don't. ResMed is trying to protect customers with the RPIP but without a direct link or list from their website you do not know the validity of the RPIP status.

If you do a google search for ResMed Preferred Internet Provider the first listing is ResMed's policy followed by numerous providers claiming they are an authorized provider. One of these providers is where I purchased my machine from.

Since creating this original post I have learned:
1. that other people own, use & continue to buy the H4i with no problems.
2. even though I am an experienced & savvy internet consumer, my lack of sleep and sheer desperation for a good night's sleep, may have lead me to buy from an unsavory online CPAP provider with numerous online names in the past and present.
3. ResMed's PIP statement is meaningless without a direct link or list to authorized providers, if they have authorized internet providers that you must buy the product from they need to better ensure you are buying it from an authorized dealer.

I love it. My Respironics humidifier had to be refilled daily, at a humidity of 1.....the capacity on this one is wonderful.

It is very misleading and can be construed as creating a false impression of a recall (Manufacture Problems?) - a serious imputation even though it is only implied. Fact is there was nothing to back even a hint there was a manufacturing problem - certainly not in a way that justifies trumpeting the notion in a title. The decent thing to do is to correct the title.

I don't see anything wrong with the way Sandy (hotdax) originally titled her topic, given that the online store she was dealing with was flaunting a ResMed Preferred Internet Provider logo.

If you go to ResMed's own website and type "resmed dealers" into their search box, you'll find this:

If you type in "preferred internet providers" (or as much of that as the search box will take) that takes you to the same page.

I think Sandy (hotdax) has acted very responsibly all the way through this, including agreeing to change the original title. Which I agree is a good idea to do.

Regarding criticism about her original title for this topic, please think about this: It's always more helpful to give a topic a title that explains what the topic is about, rather than a noninformative title like "Help!" or "humidifier." A descriptive title is what Sandy gave the topic. In hindsight, perhaps "ResMed H4i humidifier question" would have been better. But that's hindsight.

Speaking of hindsight, Sandy was going by information that a "ResMed Preferred Internet Provider" had told her...

I just bought from and rec'd my ResMed S8 Elite II Autoset from an online Resmed Internet Preferred Provider. I wanted the H4i humidifer but they shipped the H3i (even though when I purchased it they said it was a H4i). When I called to get it switched, they said that they (the provider) and and it was pulled from the market and thus they only have the H3i.

"ResMed was having problems with it" -- "pulled from the market" Straight from the mouth of a supposed ResMed Preferred Internet Provider. So what is so awful about Sandy having initially titled her topic: ResMed H4i: Manufacture problems? defects? Is it being sold?

Will be interesting to see what comes "'straighter" from the horse's mouth, so to speak, when Jim and Sandy hear directly from ResMed:

I don't doubt the information provided by the poster nicknamed "Positive Air" (nor do I doubt that the guest nicknamed "Designer" is likely who he says he is) but how could Sandy possibly have known any of that at the time she titled this topic?

I just now did a Google search with these words -- "ResMed Preferred Internet Provider".

The very first two Google links offered (not counting two sponsored links at the top) go directly to ResMed's own site:

There's nothing on the ResMed page that I could find, that says one thing about any change of that policy or about there not being any such thing as a ResMed Preferred Internet Provider since Dec 2008, or about the use of the logo not being permitted since then. I don't blame Sandy one bit for titling her topic the way she did.

Many companies don't update their websites as often as they probably should. ResMed is no exception.
