What is your experience with the F & P Infinity nasal ma

Post by Margaret » Fri Aug 12, 2005 9:31 am

Hi! I'm a new sleeper (only been on CPAP for three months). Because I intend travelling I purchased the Goodnight 420G with flow-over humidifier and heated tube. I am using the F & P 407 nasal mask. Everything is wonderful and I feel ready to conquer the world (now that I don't start to snore everytime I sit down) BUT I fear a nasal mask is going to have other passengers calling the air-hostess or worse still calling for a doctor. I also want to be able to read or watch the movie wearing the gear in case I fall asleep (there won't be enough parachutes for the evacuating passengers if I'm not on the machine). I'm not worried about marks on the face. The 407 will still be my main mask at home.

The F & P Infinity looks okay and is recommended by my supplier but with the sad exchange rate to Australian dollars a nasal mask is going to cost from $230 to $300 so I can't afford to get it wrong (I've already spent $1,500).

PS Please excuse the English spelling from DownUnder

It's a pleasure to read all your quips ............. Margaret

I tried the Infinity and found it comfortable, but remarkably unstable. The headgear is very threadbare. The mask does not well tolerate any torque on the hose.

Having said all of this, if one were to be sitting in an airplane and NOT laying down/not rolling around, the Infinity MIGHT be OK. I did find it to be comfortable on my nares, just not stable.

Buy a new hat, drink a good wine, treat yourself, and someone you love, to a new bauble, live while you are alive... you never know when the mid-town bus is going to have your name written across its front bumper!

I purshased the Infinity because it looked like the perfect nasal interface to me, NOT there is no way that this was tested The fit is fine and the idea is great until you attach the hose, the weght of the hose pulls it out of your nose and no matter what I do there is no way to place the hose so that it does not pull and you get leaks, lots of leaks. Great idea, bad design

I agree with Blamm. I used an infinity for awhile but I had trouble with the weight of the hose dislodging the nasal pillows too. I had MUCH BETTER success with the Swift. There's been alot of threads dedicated to the Swift in the past 2 weeks or so..you might want to look back and see what's been said. MANY of us like the Swift...for me the best part is that the weight of the hose does not interferre with the fit....AND I can sleep on my side even more comfortably that with the infinity (both sides...even though the hose connects on the side...really!!!)

Thanks heaps for taking the time to help me out ........ I'm certainly going to look again at the other nasal pillows available. I might ask to have a trial with the Swift to see if the noise bothers me.

Margaret,

This is also a "new" nasal interface that might work for you. I don't have any experience with it, but it looks like it might be what you are looking for, just appearance wise. If you think so, too, I would recommend posting a thread for feedback about it. It's call the Snapp.

You can find pricing, etc. on this site. Just enter "Snapp" in the search box on the cpap.com main page. Good luck.

SNAPP interface

Post by Margaret » Sat Aug 13, 2005 7:46 am

Thanks Lori
I've been trying to find information on the SNAPP, Comfort Curve and the Simplicity.
I notice that SNAPP is a prong rather than a pillow style and I'm wondering if I can handle that.
Thanks again froma Margaret

Ouch ! Margaret, I had no idea it was a prong interface. Just the sound of that made me want to say "Ouch." But who knows, maybe it is comfortable. Like I wrote, I don't know anything about it except that it exists. You need feedback from users. I'd post a new thread just on that or check the search field and see if there are any already posted. My personal favorite so far (2 1/2 months) is the Swift. But to each his own, and maybe not on a plane, although you can wear your glasses and watch a movie, read or whatever.

Good luck. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Lori
Do you mean the Swift is too noisy for fellow passengers?

Oh, no! Sorry, Margaret, to mislead you. It's really not noisy, in my opinion. I just thought the way it looks with the side straps and top straps, that maybe you wouldn't want to wear it. But now that I think about it, it's probably no worse than the Snapp or any other nasal pillow interface looks. Sorry I misled you with my incorrect thinking.

Swift in all four congurations.

No real difference, now that I think about it.

Lori
Thanks again for all your help. I've been on the net for hours (it's now 1.00 a.m. in eastern Australia) and my head is spinning from all the information I have tried to make sense of.

Interface satisfaction is obviously effected by so many things ..... face size & shape, skin sensitivity, sleep patterns, claustrophobia, emotions (yours & partners) etc. that it all sounds like winning the lottery to find the right mask.

Its a shame we can't pass them around like "pass the parcel" (pass the mask) until we find the one that suits.

Kind regards from Margaret

Margaret:

If you can i would definitly try the SWIFT. it is not noisy at all in my opinion. thats what Lori (sleepless in LI) above thought when she was having a terrible time with the breeze mask. (read the posts) from the advice of many of us on this forum she did try the SWIFT and i beleive she now is most happy with it etc! as you can see SHE posts often to help others on this site with great info as do most of the other great people here! they are too numerous to list them ALL but as you read the many posts you will become familiar with all of them.
Also did it really SNOW in AUSTRALIA this past week as i think i heard on TV?

best to you,
steve,

Margaret,

You are so right about finding the right mask is like winning a lottery. Funny you mention about why can't we all pass them around to see if we like one or another. Someone, when I first got on this site, mentioned doing that and you'd have to pay like $10 to get a mask and send it on to the next person. But then they rethought about germs, etc., and the idea kind of fizzled.

I really think there should be some type of return policy within 10 days if the mask cannot work for you. They're not cheap and the companies would not receive back masks that do work. They should either drop the prices or make them returnable (right, I can see either of those happening-I guess, in a perfect world).

Get some rest. Pleasant dreams...

Steve (UFO13/Guest):

Thanks for the nice words. You fall into that category that you put me in, too. You were the one who told me, and I quote, "YOU WILL SUCCEED," and you were right. You were a great source of comfort and inspiration when I needed it. I will never forget that.

Margaret, listen to Steve, too. He knows...

re Snowing downunder

We have ski resorts in the southern states of Australia ........ not as good as your snowfields in the states though. Every four or five years we get a little snow falling in the lower altitude regions ..... like this week, but its only light and doesn't last for long. Our winter officially finishes in another two weeks, until then southern temperates will range from -6 to +20 degrees Celsius (I don't remember how to convert to Fahrenheit except that 0 Celsius = 32 Fahrenheit). Northern Australia enjoys tropical temperatures all year, even during cyclones.

What we really enjoy though is the wind chill when the wind is blowing from the South Pole. You probably didn't need that long-winded answer.

Goodnight and God Bless
Margaret
