I agree absolutely with you, SLI! That very thing - return for full refund if not satisfied - actually was offered for a brief few months by one manufacturer on one mask... Aeiomed's Aura interface. Unfortunately, only one online store (cpapsuperstore) was willing to take Aeiomed up on its offer and actually sell that mask with a refund guarantee.I really think there should be some type of return policy within 10 days if the mask cannot work for you. They're not cheap and the companies would not receive back masks that do work. They should either drop the prices or make them returnable (right, I can see either of those happening-I guess, in a perfect world).
That policy was like a breath of fresh air (no pun intended) but it didn't last long. You can imagine the horror of most manufacturers and most stores at the very thought of refunds for masks. The wagons circled and Aeiomed soon dropped that policy.
You can read about it by doing a search on this message board for keywords: Aura refund

Too bad that rather than the other manufacturers taking a lesson from Aeiomed, they shut that policy of theirs down with their disapproval and whatever else they did to stop Aeiomed from offering that policy. It's also too bad that there is nothing we can do, as a whole, to force the issue to get this policy of no returns changed. And I guess they know it's not like we can boycott buying masks until they changed their policies, although we all do have masks we can use for now...hmmm.

refunds
I've been thinking about the idea of refunds, from a suppliers point of view as well, and I don't think that you will ever get them to do it for the obvious reasons. They will remain more than happy with CPAP users purchasing multiple masks. The manufacturers must be rubbing their hands together with the increased awareness in the community of sleep apnea ( there is a huge potential market ).
I think there might be more success getting assistance from the organizations & businesses that pay out for CPAP (medical funds, hospitals that purchase and then loan equipment to people on low incomes etc., health departments that should recognize CPAP as life support (cheaper than hospitalization).
Perhaps the Sleep Clinics could be funded to provide proper support for CPAP clients to view and try out ALL the available masks if they want (they have the necessary equipment to clean the masks already and they are certainly well paid now for their service). It might introduce more competition between suppliers (and give the smaller suppliers a chance to show their product).
I wish I had the money to set up a sleep clinic. I could retire early.
Thanks for your help

Margaret,
You sparked an idea in me when you said the DME clinics have the equipment to clean these masks. Well, why not have a "used" mask department within DME clinics where people who either don't have insurance and don't have the money to buy new or just want a mask and don't care that it's been a "test" mask can purchase these masks for sale at discounted prices? I would certainly buy one from them if I knew they had sanitized it safely. They could even buy back old masks and put them in this department, sort of like a thrift shop of masks. Another way to make money for them on masks that have already been paid for and they can now sell again. This way, people could try a mask and if they had to return it due to dislking it, it could be sold again and wouldn't be a total loss to the DME. It would have to be done with good faith totwards the users being applied, but it would be a way to keep the customers happy while still making some money on a return, not to mention bringing in customer who they wouldn't normally have.

Margaret,
You might want to do a Search on SNAPP...there have been quite a few posts about it. I personally did not like the SNAPP for several reasons. I prefer the Swift...it's very easy to sleep on your side with it (even though it doesn't look like it). If you want me to go into more detail about the SNAPP, send me a PM.
Thanks!!!
Amy

Ready to go!
A big "G'day Mate" and "thanks heaps Guys" to all of you for your advice. I am about to purchase a Swift (unless I'm knocked down first by that big bus WillSucceed warns us about).
I'll report in on my findings. When I return I'll bring a pet.
Love from Margaret 'Downunder'(Oz)

You nailed it, Margaret! Everyone concerned is content with the profitable mask business "as is". Ooops, well not quite everyone. Darn, it's easy to forget the cpap users who actually have to wear masks all night long, every night!I don't think that you will ever get them to do it for the obvious reasons. They will remain more than happy with CPAP users purchasing multiple masks.

Infinity Nasal Mask
Margaret,
This is my first post to this forum, but I wanted to tell you about my experiences with 3 mask systems. The first mask I tried was the CPAP Pro. The CPAP Pro is a fitted boiled mouthpiece that has 2 nasal pillows. http://www.cpappro.com/index.html The CPAP Pro is really comfortable if you can handle sleeping with a mouthpiece (no headgear). The problem I had with it was, as a side sleeper, the nasal pillows would move too much to keep a good seal.
The 2nd mask I tried was the ResMed Mirage Swift. The Swift is a good mask with the only draw back being that the straps leave marks on one's face. The Swift would be a great product if it only had gel cushions on the inside of the face straps.
I just tried the Infinity Nasal Mask thinking it would be as good as the Swift but wouldn't leave marks. I was really disappointed in it. The nasal pillows are okay, but the the infinity's swivel joint and tubing is too rigid and too heavy so that the mask does not stay in place.
I would recommend the Swift or the CPAP Pro as something that would be comfortable and not too disturbing to fellow passengers as to make them rush to the exits. In all honesty, I can not recommend the infinity.
Hope this helps and happy travels.

Hello and welcome to the site. I just wanted to give you a link to a post you may find helpful. A lot of us agree with you on the Swift being great, but hate those swoosh marks. I have a Snapp and it is OK. Not excellent (that's Breeze, for me) but OK. I have only used it a handful of times. I find it more stable for side-sleeping than Swift and the headgear is more comfortable for me than Swift but, the prong part of the pillow can be a bit annoying until you get used to it.
I don't think I would buy another Snapp --I have only bought one mask twice, Respironics Comfort-Lite. I find it to be a very comfortable mask but it is a bit twitchy. This second one whistles like crazy so I don't use it much.
Watch out for that bus, Margaret!!!!! Its a big one!A big "G'day Mate" and "thanks heaps Guys" to all of you for your advice. I am about to purchase a Swift (unless I'm knocked down first by that big bus WillSucceed warns us about).

Buy a new hat, drink a good wine, treat yourself, and someone you love, to a new bauble, live while you are alive... you never know when the mid-town bus is going to have your name written across its front bumper!

Thanks for your commments. I have ordered the Swift and am just waiting on delivery. I am definitely going to follow Lori's advice and buy the toe bandages if we have them in Australia ( thanks yet again Lori for your helpful advice ).
