Away from home and can't use CPAP tonight and tomorrow

Post by Debjax » Fri Jan 23, 2009 7:22 pm

When I was packing for the trip to Michigan, the little voice said "pack the full face mask too".....of course, I'm only here for 3 days, and space in the luggage was tight so.....

Now, today I come down with the cold from a very hot place, and can't get any air through my nose so no CPAP tonight and tomorrow night. Massive decongestants, and my nose is still running like a faucet....

Afrin for one or two nights might be a good idea?

Saline spray?

Day/nightquil?

Where in MI are you? Would you like to borrow a small quattro?

Go get yourself some hypertonic saline solution and rinse that stuff out ... of your nose that is!

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Hang in there...
I would seriously disinfect everything once the cold has passed.
I have also heard good things about netipots.

Thanks, but it probably won't be feasible. We're in Elsie, and are going to Lansing for the day tomorrow shopping. I fly home on Sunday at 10:30 am....

I'd do nyquil, but I've already taken Mucinex DM (why do they always look at you like you're a drug dealer when you buy ONE box of the stuff?) and I think I'd have more problems than the cold if I took both.....

I just needed to whine.

As fast as I clean it out....it comes back. I have not had a cold like this in years. One of the guys at work has given it to all of us....

I go "NO WHERE" without it. I have a travel case that came with mine, and its the first thing I pack when leaving home-even for (1) night. Alka Seltzer Plus?

I have learned my lesson, both the nose mask and full face go with me wherever I go from now on.....I'm going to try to use it tonight, I just don't think it's going to work. Maybe if I lay on my side, the "top" side will open up...

Tried to use it when I went to bed, it was no good, I just could not pass any air through. The good news is that some of it started to break up about 3:30 am, and I could breathe through one side of my nose. The "down" side when I was laying on my side was still congested and runny, but stuck a kleenex in the mask covering that side to catch the leaks and managed to get about 4 hours on the machine. Man it felt GOOD to sleep with it on.

Since starting cpap over ten years ago and only using a nasal pillow system of some kind the whole time, I've always been able to use my cpap every night, cold or no cold. I've found the trick is to do what you can to get the congestion down, put the mask on, lay on one side or the other and wait for one side to unclog. This has never failed me. I'm not saying I don't wake up more often in the night, but I always get air in.

My pressure is 12 so that may help some.

When I'm clogged up at bedtime, I turn on the machine, put on the nasal pillow mask, then open my mouth. It's the mouth-opening which seems to direct the pressure such that it clears the nasal passages.

I have just spent the most miserable night of the last two months, and the night before was only marginally better. Last night, neither side would unclog for any reason. I kept trying to use the machine, but simply could not breathe. I got virtually NO sleep... I am now home, and the quattro is hooked up waiting for me to get some good sleep....I will NOT leave home without the backup ffm again.

<wry grin> well, the mouth kept opening alright, as I was gasping for air when the nose woudn't work. I am SO looking forward to bed tonight.

With a pressure of only 7, no wonder.
