Storing cpap mask during day
Storing cpap mask during day
Please help! I looking for suggestions on where to store mask during day when not in use. I clean in morning and leave on my nightstand but by the time I go to bed it is dusty, etc. I don't want to clean all over again, as than it will be wet. If I put in container it would need to have holes for air to get in??? Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Storing cpap mask during day
Heck, I don't wash my mask and hose every day. And I just take my mask off and hang it on the bedpost.
Hey! My momma always told me I'd eat a bushel of dirt before I die. I just figure if there is any dust or dog or cat hair collect on it during the day that doesn't tickle my nose, its just part of that bushel of dirt. I probably get more dust and lint from the sheets and blankets on it than collects on it during the day hanging on the bedpost.

I use the Chewing gum from the day before to hold it to the bed post! Jim
Dust, I don't have any dust in my bedroom, of course I don't wear my readers in the bedroom either.

The leg of a pair of pantyhose or a kneehigh stocking would help keep it clean yet not be airtight.

Cover it with a hanky or towel, or make a mask cozy.

Re: Storing cpap mask during day
Elegant solutions to non problems.
Why would anyone even consider the storage of a mask during the day?
I clean my mask about every 6 months or when worms crawl out the pillows.
No need for such, but obsessive people will always find something to obsess over.
As far as pathogens some how getting thru the machine, what does everyone else in the house do to avoid breathing the air.
But like the distilled water question, this one will come up again every time chicken little comes into town.

When you live in the country, covering a lot of things becomes important, and if you have cats like I do, it's even more of an issue. It's funny, I asked the same question last year or so, and also got unsatisfactory answers (except for a few, like the 'cosy' idea) and I thought that was strange at the time too.

if you really feel the need, I'd get a rubbermaid shoebox and use.

You look for "WORMS" ??? I watch for E.T. before cleaning my mask or the lime buildup in the humidifier blocks the airflow....tomjax wrote:Elegant solutions to non problems.

Maybe I should issue face mask to visitors so they can avoid pathogens...........

My mask came with a storage bag, one side of which is nylon mesh for ventilation. The mask is a Resmed Activa. If you really want one you could order that bag as a spare part. I only use mine when I'm away from home though, to protect it when travelling, I just leave the mask in the bathroom to dry after washing it each day.

i can't see anything obsessive about someone taking control of their therapy , sanitation or otherwise . we each have our own comfort leval in regards to cleanliness /immune system . many of us here have weakened immune systems because of meds taken. although some may jest here , one should not lessen the importance of this factor by attacking another brother or sister IMHO. tim

I have to agree with Deerslayer. Everyone's feelings about cleanliness are different. In addtion, there is the fact of weakened immune systems because of other medical conditons and drugs taken, as he stated.
Poking fun at this is not helpful.
If you can't just give a suggestion about what you do or what might help this person then don't post! The joking responses here are totally unnecessary and are of no help whatsoever.
If you didn't know that some people live with very compromised immune systems and therfore must be extra careful about such things, you do now.

Re: Storing cpap mask during day
I,m like you
I like to start out at night with a clean grease free mask .I clean my mask in the am with baby shampoo and then store in top drawer of my night stand which I have lined with a cloth then I just leave my drawer cracked open about an inch . This has been working well for me since I started CPAP August last year. I also clean my humidifier tank ,fill with distilled water and store in same drawer with a hankie over top. This is needed as I like on a dirt road that wanna bee Nascar drivers practice on.

Re: Storing cpap mask during day
Like some others, I wash my mask every once in awhile......think "months". I hang it over the corner of my humidifier where the hose attaches when I take it off in the morning. When I get ready to put it on at night, I wipe off the seal with the palm of my hand and blow a puff of air into the mask to blow out any dust that may have collected in there during the day.
Wyoming IS dusty and windy, so I wash out my intake air filter every other weekend.......which reminds me, I think this is the weekend to do that.

While true, I live in this same dirty enviorment 24/7, the cleanest air I breath is the double filtered air from my XPAP. It doesn't make sense to obsess over dust and dirt and still live with kids or animals. All the equiptment cleaning in the world won't make up for your enviorment, unless you live in a climate comtrolled sterile rubber room. My bedroom is closed off, the heat is shut off, Room A/C cools the room, and filters the air not a lot of dirt going on. My Video screen attracts all the dust out of the air, life is good. My bedroom is the cleanest room in my cave. I put my dirty mask on, the machine comes on, I hold my breath, lift the mask from my face, the old dirty air blows past the seal. I let the mask seal and breath clean filtered air all night. Too many real problems to deal with to make life harder that necessary. Jim
