Help Please! Forum posting problem
Re: Help Please! Forum posting problem
What OS and browser are you using?
I suspect there is something in the updated security that is causing this. I don't have problems with this but I did have problems with the software when the new board came on with using accessibility options (and have them disabled).
I suspect there is a problems with FF 3 and the updates.
Just my 2 cents.

Everything worked fine for me until just now. I have to log in everytime I even read a post. I'm running FF but never had a problem before now.

Re: Help Please! Forum posting problem
Well, for the first time in all the years I've been using cpaptalk, I've gotten a taste of what people have said about getting logged out after a certain amount of time. Before, even if cpaptalk stayed up on my computer and I was away from the computer for hours, I'd still be logged in when I came back.
Not now. I come back to find that I'm not logged in, and have to do the log-in again.
I don't dump cookies - which is why I figured I always stayed logged in ok before.
I still don't dump cookies (sounds like my humidifier water, eh? LOL!!) but have started finding myself being logged out now if "some time" goes by.

Re: Help Please! Forum posting problem
Something else is happening to my "log-in" that didn't happen in previous years.
I have always been able (while logged in to cpaptalk) to start another instance of Firefox, go to cpaptalk, and was still logged in. In otherwords, I could have two Firefox going on, and browse both, logged in on both.
Can't do that now. Now, if I try to go to cpaptalk in the "second" Firefox, I have to "log in" on the second one. And when I do that second log-in, it closes that second Firefox and brings the first Firefox back up off the taskbar.
Perhaps that doesn't matter in the grander scheme of things and there's no need to "fix" that for me if it's too much trouble. It was just kind'a handy for me to use when updating the long links topics...for me to be able to work back and forth, logged in in both Firefox cpaptalk windows.

Re: Help Please! Forum posting problem
I'm also having problems on my home computer (Windows 98, using IE6). This is what's happening:
(1) The cpaptalk.com logo is covering all of the icons to the left of Product Challenge. When that Bookmark icon was added, was some kind of font change also made? It's very difficult to work in the forum if all of the icons at the top aren't accessible, especially the Home icon.
(2) When I signed on, I selected "log me on automatically each visit," as I always do. In the past, when I did that, it kept me logged on until I chose to log out. Now, it isn't doing that. For example, I wrote a reply to a post, previewed/edited my reply a couple of times, then posted it. When I was returned to the main page, I had been logged out.
(3) I often open cpaptalk.com twice so if I'm writing a post and need information from another post, I can hop over to the other one and search for whatever it is I need. (For example, I've done that a couple of times while writing this in order to see what information Trinh's requesting.) I open it the first time, sign in, and make sure I've selected "log me on automatically each visit." Then when I open it the second time, I follow this procedure:
-- I select the IE icon from the taskbar at the bottom of my screen
-- when it opens to my Home page (Google Advanced Search), I select the cpaptalk address from the dropdown list in the Address box
-- cpaptalk.com opens, and I'm already signed in. Now, when I follow that procedure, when cpaptalk.com opens, I'm NOT signed in.
I haven't cleared the cookies or cache on purpose, because I rarely do that, and I don't have the problems I'm having now. Also, although I usually can preview something I'm writing, sometimes I lose it now, so before I select Preview or Submit, I copy what I've written in case I get logged out. All of these things are the sort of things that were happening when we first went to the "new" version of the forum last summer.
I'll check my computer at work tomorrow to see what, if any, problems there are, because it uses Windows XL and IE7.

Well I shut down a few hours ago and now I am back - and I again had to log in.
I didn't dump any cookies in shutting down; I did the other day and had to log in then.
I am using XP Media edition and FF 2.0.0.20 and I had to log in just now.
I opened up a second tab and had to log in on that tab too.
Whatever security changes were put in last these last couple of day and that blasted bookmark button at the top, aren't working.
I really would like to be able to accessibility options (high contrast display) but if I want to see the edit, x, quote, delete spam buttons, I can't.

Ah, good, glad to see I'm not the only one suddenly having issues with staying logged in!
I'm using Vista, and whatever the latest Firefox build is - I just installed it two days ago. Edit: Nevermind, let me not be lazy and check... version 3.0.5.

I'm using Vista and IE and having the same problem... so it's not related to the browser.
Re: Help Please! Forum posting problem
I tried IE as well as FF and had the problem with both using Vista.

I didn't even have to "leave" my computer. I just got logged out while I was reading a post.....maybe three minutes....
It didn't use to log me out for about 30 minutes (I've never used the automatic login thing) if I hadn't been "active" on the site .
I also just noticed/tried the same thing that rested gal mentioned......I couldn't open another browser window (Firefox) into CPAPTALK and still be logged in......which I could always do before.

Re: Help Please! Forum posting problem
Please understand... I know enough about computers to make me dangerous (a condition that's also known as Has Insufficient Computer Knowledge, or HICK). In other words, not enough. So please take what I'm about to say with that in mind; this probably has nothing to do with anything:
I've worked in the forum each day since January 1 and did not start having troubles until the day that the Bookmark/AddThis icon was added. I'm wondering if that is causing at least some, if not all, of these problems. When I started having trouble, the only difference I noticed was the new icon. Wondering if a virus had managed to infect my machine (remember... I'm a HICK), I ran a My Computer search in Find for "*addthis*" and saw that a bunch of new files had been added. I deleted them, just in case they were trouble, but made note of the details before emptying my Recycle Bin. This is what I found:
#s9.addthis.com ..... type: file folder ..... origin: sys ..... size: 32.0 KB
s9.addthis.com ..... type: file folder ..... origin: 9JM2B83A ..... size: 32.0 KB
addthis.swf ..... type: file folder ..... origin: as ..... size: 32.0 KB
addthis_widget[1] ..... type: JScript Script File ..... origin: 01AJ09MV ..... size: 6.83 KB
addthis_widget[2] ..... type: JScript Script File ..... origin: 2FYW97KX ..... size: 6.83 KB
addthis-logo-tiny[1] ..... type: GIF image ..... origin: 62I11VIT ..... size: 1.43 KB
I gotta say, I'm not crazy about something that adds all this stuff and takes up a chunk of space in my computer, and having them move in without my permission does make me nervous. But then, I'm a HICK.

Re: Help Please! Forum posting problem
I have the involuntary logging out problem too.
Hope this is soon fixed. I am tired of doing the log in thing for each thread view. Clicking the "Click here to read" button seems to be the thing that logs me out when I click it.
I tried to post to a thread while not logged in, but it told me my name was already in use.

I'm not recognized as Slinky any more. Sniffle. When I think of all the tries Johnny and I made to find an ID that the forum software would accept ..... *sigh* I haven't tried to re-register. Thought it best to let the kinks get worked out first. Maybe I can still be Slinky.

I guess the setting I was adjusting trying to fix certain users' problem made things worst. Look like I have to put it back to the way it was and search furthermore what could be the cause for those users. Sorry for the inconvenience..TrinhVu wrote:I have just adjusted the cookie setting on this board configuration by enabling "Secure Cookie". Our only secure page are the login page and user control panel pages. Anything else in general in on regulat http(non-https) protocol. I was still able to login as you can see I wonder if this will fix your problem. Give it a try and we will continue this tomorrow, perhaps in the chat room.
