bipap machine broken

I have a respironics bi-pap machine that suddenly started making a whistleing noise and now the blower is malfunctioning. Is there anywhere that repairs these things and has anyone had this type of problem??? I think it may have gotten wet during transit during thanksgivin,

Is it just the water that might have happened... or could it be something else?

If it's just the water... have you tried taking the card out and running it for awhile (no mask, no hose... just let it run). See if it'll clear itself up?

If it got wet you are much better off to make sure it is completely dried inside BEFORE applying power to it again.

Like cflame1 said sometimes they will dry out and be OK. I have not found or heard of anyone that works on them except for Respirionics. Several have tried to get parts to fix them themselves with no luck. If it is under 2 years old (from date it was shipped by Respirionics) they will fix it under warrenty. One restriction is that it must be sent back to the factory by a DME. They will not receive it from you. If you are dealing with a decent DME they will give you a loaner while it is gone. Older than 2 years it can still be sent back and they will give you an estimate to see if it cost more to repair or replace. Same shipping regulations apply. Does the screen give you an error code? Might give you some idea as to whether it is worth sending in. Good luck!!

This advice will differ a bit between brands & models. If you have the old 'tank' style Bipap then I gan guarantee the following advice to be very sound

So, a couple of things to watch out for.

1. If cleaning around the air filter with tissues make certain no tissue paper gets left in the air in hole

2. If water gets into the air exit port from the H/H - the water can find its way to the blower bearings and they will rust (see photos)

3. If you do get water into the air exit port - the water won't get into the electronics (that part of the machine is separate) - the best advice I can offer is to run the machine for a while with the filer removed BUT DON'T LET ANYTHING GET SUCKED IN. The aim is to dry the water out before it affects the bearings

4. If water gets spilled onto a cpap it CAN get into the electronics - that gets tricky - for myself, I would open the unit up & hand dry it (while it isn't plugged in )
