Were you prescribed a humidifier?

One interesting thing to me. Some of the previous posts state that you can feel the heat from the heated humidity in the mask. Even with a homemade (my wife does a lot of sewing) hose huggy, the air is moist but cool, even with the humidifier set on three.

The only difference for me between the humidifier set on zero(off) and three(the highest I have been able to set it and still have water in the tank in the morning) is the amount of moisture in the air. The temperature feels the same to me.

i was told it was not part of the therapy!! come to find out the idiot is an internist just working for the sleep doc. my dme put a passover bottle and hosein with my cpap. i recently got a heated standalone on cpap auction real cheap.

I have attempted to use a CPAP on and off for 7-8 years with poor results. Just recently found this talk. It is good to see all of your comments. People who seem to know what you are talking about from your own experiences. I have never had anyone to give me instructions, lessons on how to use properly. Didn't even know about humidifiers. Next week I have an appointment with a Dr. who is said to care for his patients. Wish me luck and thanks for your notes, they help. WILL

After struggling with a CPAP machine for a few months I found this forum. Based on the advice and technical reasons I saw here, I wrote the exact equipment list including model numbers and handed it to the sleep doc. After discussing it, he wrote the Rx exactly as I had it and even called the DME to make sure they would fill it that way. They did and it has been great.

I only got a HH because I had already come here and learned what I would need. I insisted on a HH so the MD included it.

Get a load of the per centage of us who have been scripted a heated humidifier from the get-go! Now, if the docs would just shape up and be as enlightened about a fully data capable CPAP in place of "just" a CPAP (meaning to most local DME suppliers a compliance data only CPAP). *sigh*

Here in the UK, on the National Health Service, they provide the CPAP for free but initially without a humidifier. I was fully compliant but kept waking up in the middle of the night with the inside of my nose feeling like the gobi desert in the dead of winter... each inhalation was a painful dry arctic sting! It took two visits to the medical technician before she relented and provided me with a heated humidifier. That was a huge relief.

All you would need is some garden hose and duct tape. And mouth leaks would be no problemo.

Not only was the humidifier part of my prescription, a humidifier was used in both sleep studies.

I wish I could get more moisture in the air without the added heat. I don't like rain-out however, so there is a limit to my wish.

Joanie, that begs another question: Is the humidity production very different among various machines?

I get PLENTY of humidity without feeling overheated with my ResMed. Maybe that is just my personal situation, physiology, and maybe even anatomy?

The difference is probably a function of several factors, such as ambient room temp and humidity, mask style, pressure setting, etc. I like to sleep in a very cold room, so whooshing air at room temp is DEFINITELY a heck of a lot colder than it would feel without the mask. Heck, in the wintertime here my nose got cold before CPAP therapy.

I have to have the heated humidifier, or I would need to turn the whole room warmer. If the whole room is warmer, I am not going to sleep.
