I use the Respironics M series, because it has the Brick, w/extra cords
and the annoying, beacons of blue light.

YMMV
To me, the dim glow of the buttons and display on my resmed form and evil alien like monkey face a la like mojo jojo.

BTW, the RESMED S8 Compact is courtesy of my [cheapskate] DME.

Ha! The lights don't bother me much, and I'm really fussy about light in the bedroom. We have a sock over the light on the air purifier, frex We got the machine placed in a good location so the lights aren't a problem.

I chose the Remstar M Series Pro -- I hope Remstar is the same as Respironics, I assume it is -- because I wanted something data capable, with C-Flex and a humidifier. This was the only one the DME had that fit the criteria, and it was on my short list of machines I wanted, so I got it. The reviews I saw online were good, too.

Hi there--I have a Resmed S8 Elite---i upgraded from the Escape to the Elite so I could have data to see every day how I am doing with my therapy. LOVE the intergrated humidifier --it is whisper quiet too --no lights that I can see to bother me eitehr---it is a great machine!! It travels great too --compact and fits in it's nice travel bag that looks like a lap top bag. Very nicely made equipment--hope this helps,
Carrie

My doctor faxed my Rx to the DME before giving it to me and informed me of the time I was to go there for my appointment.

Upon arriving, I was handed a Resmed S8 with heated humidifier and an ill-fitting mask. On my way out, I told my wife that I felt like I just got the bum’s rush. I had a multitude of problems with the machine, including problems tolerating the constant 13 cm pressure, and with the mask.

I decided to research the whole CPAP thing and take charge of my own therapy.

After some research on the internet, and finding this site, I decided that the REMstar Auto (tank) was the best available machine at the time. After speaking to my insurance carrier, I ordered one from CPAP.com. I returned the Resmed machine in less than a month.

A range of 10-14 has worked great for me. I spend 70% of my time at 10 and more than 90% at 12 or less. The software made it easy to find what worked well for me.

I bought a second REMstar Auto last summer (on a clearance sale, at my own expense) before the last new one was gone.

Unless my therapy needs change, I think I’m set for a long time.

Wayne

Thank you everyone! I am not too concerned about the lights as we have many already that shine through the night... My round fan that I could not sleep without as I need noise has 3 blue lights on the top and is quite bright. Then there is my extra large alarm clock that glows a bright blue even on the lowest setting.. Green lights from the power surge protector, and DSL modem... I am lit up like a Christmas tree everynight! One more blue light cannot hurt..

Well, it's a long story, but I'll keep it short. I was given an m-series with c-flex. I told them I wanted to try a Resmed Autoset II or I would go somewhere else. They hemmed and hawed for awhile. I waited for about 6 weeks, and was ready to call them, get my script and say thank you and good-bye. But that very same day, they called and gave me the Resmed.

I've had it for a week today. I am very happy with it, and I'm doing great.
I do not want to be critical of the Respironics - they are great and those with them love them - especially the A-flex.

It looks to me as if the technical data get a little complicated at this point. The m-series graph looks like this:
Image

And the Resmed graph looks more like this:
Image

Well, when I was in my profession, I used the sine wave quite often for what I had to do. So, naturally, I loved the idea of having more of that graph to sleep with. (I think the real curve looks a little more skewed than that above, but its close enough.

Also, I love the size of the Resmed, its quietness, the more intriguing color, the ease of reading the data....
But more than anything, it was Slinky's posts. By the way, where is Slinky lately?
Thanks, Slinky!
Bye,
Jay

Awww shucks! You've missed me!

I am at Mayo Clinic in MN. They are keeping me so busy I haven't had time to visit the forums, check my e-mail or even digest the results of the consultations, results, etc. I've barely had time to download my VPAP data!!!

However, the PSG resulted in a pressure adjustment to IPAP 10, EPAP 5 which caused me unexpected pleasure in that I suspected my pressure was too high (not uncomfortable) but causing more "lip flutters" than I suspected a lower pressure would. My previous pressure settings had been IPAP 13, EPAP 8 and I had experimented w/IPAP 12, EPAP 7 but hesitated to play around too much so decided as long as I was going to I would reset to my locally titrated pressure and go thru Mayo's Sleep Center.

I was disappointed w/my Mayo sleep doc in that he wasn't interested in my current data - except for the compliance summary graph. And then proceeded to tell me how COPD can be a direct cause of poor sleep irrespective of OSA. But what DID actually UPSET me and made me UNHAPPY (to put it mildly) w/him was that when I tried to ask about the Minute Ventilation, Tidal Volume and ... one of the other graphs he said that these machines were not accurate, you couldn't rely on the data so just ignore it, blah, blah. At that point I confess to tuning him out.

ON THE OTHER HAND! I had a TREMENDOUS RPSGT who set me up for the night!!! I had my laptop and she was thrilled to go thru a couple of nights of my current data and after playing w/ResScan a bit her first words were: "If only EVERY patient could have access to this software and data!!!"

Given a conflict of appointment times I asked to cancel the PSG results consultation until my last day here when I FINALLY had an opening and I was delighted to my original sleep doc wasn't available so I'd have to see another. Broke my heart. NOT. I had high hopes I might get a more "enlightened" sleep doctor.

But my hopes were dashed. *sigh* My original sleep doctor rearranged my other appointment and rescheduled me w/him. Grrrrrrrrr! HOWEVER, I asked if I could have a half hour consult w/an RPSGT, that I felt I could learn .... gotta go! More later.

yay, so glad to hear from you Slinky!! That's great to hear about your re-titration, but man what a bummer about that sleep doc. Jeez, do NONE of them understand the software ?? Mine was also going on about how even APAP mode on a machine is useless, the detections aren't accurate, blah blah blah. Jeez. Three cheers (even kisses??) for the RPSGT

Well, I DO have to say, in defense of sleep doctors, that it is unreasonable to expect them to be familiar w/the "options" of all the various brands and models of xPAP. HOWEVER, for them to not only IGNORE the data but to also pooh pooh and discourage their patients from wanting access to or an explanation of their nightly data TORQUES MY JAWS! And THAT was my great disappointment w/my Mayo sleep doctor.

He was pleasant as is so typical, so expected of a Mayo doctor! AND when I asked him if I could get a half hour consultation with an RPSGT he said it was an unusual request and he wasn't sure if it could be done - BUT - he would check w/sleep administration and TRY to arrange it!!! So, he's not all that bad a guy. Just such a disappointment that even a Mayo sleep doctor would be so disapparaging of the data and data capabilities of today's xPAPs.

Hopefully I'll have more good news to report!!! Back atchya when they give me a little private down time!!!!

I've read this here before. Can someone explain what the problems are? I have one of these APAP's, and frankly have no basis for comparison---but I just don't see any issues.

I'm so proud of you my fellow forum member - give 'em heck. I bet you know more than they do and they're embarrassed to get into a discussion they might have to get in the position of confessing they don't have an answer due to lack of knowledge. They depend too much on looking for certain data of reports they're familiar with and have no learning around the various reports of the MAJOR manufacturers reports. It's not like you have a machine that isn't common, right? Geez.

PS Miss ya : )
