Pap-Cap

I have been using my pap-cap since I recieved mine to do a review on. I LOVE this cap. I use it every single night. I wear the CG nasal mask and although I still have some leak issues, I am getting much lower leak rates with this headgear. It holds my mask in place, is very comfortable to use and I am never going to go back to traditional headgear again. I do have a small head and the cap almost runs out of velcro to close the back end, but I have managed to get it to a place that works. My only problem with it, is all the velcro. Since I live with 3 dogs and 3 cats and have very long hair, I have to pick out a lot of hair now and again to keep the velcro working as it should. I don't think there is a way around that one.

I LOVE this product and am thankful that it was a great idea that has come around.

I totally agree. I have been using mine for a month.
I used the original mask headgear two nights, just to see if
I could notice a difference. I could.

My concern on first setting it up, was the velcro would wear out
and loose it's ability to grip. After a few adjustments and the
cap material adjusted, I have not had to make any adjustments.
I leave it attached to the forehead piece of my mask.
I put my mask on, clip in, and I am set. NO further adjustments,
for the night. With this cap and my UM ffm, I am about as close to
the holy grail of the Odyssey of the Mask, as one can get.
.......although, I do have another mask on the way......

This is a great product.

.....BUT, I'm still waiting for my Voyager(Vger) style cap..... Bret?????

I'm also using the pap-cap in combination with the UMFF. How in the world are you keeping your mask attached to the pap-cap? Ideally I'd liek to replace the entire headgear with a pap-cap! I LOVE the pap-cap too

So enlighten us! what mask?? I bought the liberty a while back and loved it, but it was too large, so now i will get the smaller size. It could potentially become my new favorite mask (can't really stand the UMFF but it's the only full-face I have at the moment).

Echo, we are using/testing the full headgear model.

I have an UM med/shallow on the way. I like the UM small because of the small
foot print, but it does not work as well as the medium size.....so
I'm going to try the med/shallow.
As much as I am enamoured w/the Quattro, it is just to fickle to deal with.
I think they are going to go away.

The UM just works.

I have long hair and cannot stand for it to touch me at night, especially on my face or neck. I usually pull it all off of my neck and I like to have it drape over the top edge of my pillow. Do you think the pap cap could be modified (by me) so that there is a hole in the top where I could thread my hair through to keep it off of my neck? It would have to be a sizable hole; I have thick hair. Can you tell from looking at it if a hole at the crown would destroy the structure and keep it from being used to hold the mask on?

If that works, it might be a HUGE benefit. It might finally be a solution for keeping my hair off of me without putting a bunch of crimp marks in it.

Also, is it hot? My hair makes me hot, and something with that much fabric looks hot, though it might be good in winter.

This is a WONDERFUL product, folks, and I'm hoping that the CPAP-CAP with headgear will be approved soon, because I think it will make a HUGE difference in compliance for people. It makes for so much less fussing once you get the Velcro placement figured out!

And, if I'm not mistaken, Bret has dropped the price of the original CPAP-CAP ten bucks, which is a fabulous nod of friendship, in my book, to his fellow CPAP users. I think it started at $39.99 and most styles are now $29.99. And for those of you, like me, who are always in search of a bargain, there are two styles down to $9.99. They must not have been as popular as the rest, fabric-wise, is my assumption, but who the hell cares what the thing looks like, IMHO, as long as it works well???? So being the bargain hunter that I am, I have snapped both styles up and am looking forward to using them as backup.

Bret, you are something else (meant in a totally positive way, of course -- just realized that could be taken two ways), and I think I speak for many that we are grateful to you for caring about us and for working so hard to develop products that will make a comfort difference to us!

Bret, I'm still waiting for my headgear upgrade to trial. I already have the papcap and have found that the chinstrap on it is the ONLY way to go. I still have to double tape, crisscross, but the chinstrap keeps my jaw from falling when I sleep. My mask straps alway get caught in the velcro on the cpapcap, so it would be nice to be able to do away with the headstraps.

LoQ, I, too can't stand to have my hair on my neck and would love a design with a hole on top. In the meantime I put my hair up in a bun on the top of my head and pull the Cpapcap over it. I have thin, fine hair, so it fits. Probably wouldn't be enough space for your hair.

I agree that the PAP-CAP is a wonderful product. I've been using it since about mid-July and my leak rates have been at or near zero for most of that time. However, in the last few weeks I have started to have a problem with the cap moving on my head during the night. Like you, my head is on the small side, and when I cross over the 2 straps on the back, only a very small amount (maybe 1/8" or so) of the velcro "catches". This was not an issue initially, but as the velcro has worn with use, that small amount of velcro doesn't hold as well as it used to. Usually it loosens up sometime in the night, the cap moves forward on my head loosening the chin strap and then my leak is back. I plan on ordering a new one, but what would really be nice is if the cap would come in a smaller size for those of us with smaller heads.

Hi all,

I've been using my Pap-Cap for a week now and like it very much! I'm not currently wearing a FFM but I find the cap works really well with the NA-II. I suspected it might from Babs' pictures of her arrangement with the chinstrap. I tried that with my Topaz chinstrap and it worked fairly well but the Pap-Cap is lighter and much more comfortable than the neoprene chin strap. My leak rates so far seem to be about the same with the cap as with headgear. (That means it should also work with SNAPP-X).

After my nose heals, I'm going to try the cap with my Quattro (I've tried everything for my nose but nothing seems to prevent the major red spot the Quattro inflicts on me each time).

The other thing I tried was to use the Pap-Cap underneath the Swift LT for use just as a chin strap. Again that was very comfortable (so light!) and definitely has now replaced my old chin strap. I have been able to skip mouth taping with this.

If the velcro wears down, I'd probably just sew on a new piece as needed - should be very easy to do.

I'm not finished experimenting but am much encouraged so far. This is a very well thought out product which has incrementally improved my mask experience. Kudos to SleepGuy for another winner!

I too have very long hair. I either put it in a loose low pony-tail and put the cap on after that. It works just fine for keeping my hair out of my face during the night.

Someone just contacted me about using the PAP-Cap with a Swift mask. Since I am not familiar with that mask (and some of you are--like mindy) I was hoping to resurrect this thread a bit and give him a link.

It should work with the Swift (haven't tried it yet) but I would only use it if I need the chin strap part. I tried it with one of my other nasal masks and it did work.

I don't have a Swift but was just looking at a picture of one. I don't know why the CPAP-CAP couldn't work with it as long as the "clippies" for the mask can be removed from existing headgear and moved on the velcro straps of the new version of the cap. If you used the velcro on the chinstrap version, you could move your straps up to the right level, even with the nose. You could probably then loop the side hose up and tuck it into the loop that's part of the cap to keep it anchored.

I don't know when the new version with the headgear replacement is going to be available and in what form it will come out. With the velcro on the ends of the cap closure, I think that would be a downward tug on a nasal mask, though perfect for a full-face mask.

Of course any of the masks could be used the the CPAP-CAP that's out now. Just plop your mask over the cap to keep your hair nice and tucked away, and there you go!
