[/quote]Thanks for the advice, Sleepyman! I am spending more than I want to on masks, so any penny saved at this point is fine by me. The site you gave the link to, do you just look for an Encore card reader? Is that what it would be called?

You want the Infineer DT3500 towards the bottom of the page. Has anyone tried the other "compatible readers?"

Sleepyman--Reader from securetech-corp.com

Post by Tridens » Thu Jul 21, 2005 6:19 pm

Sleepyman,

I was thrilled to see your post re: the DT-3500 reader available at http://www.securetech-corp.com/smart.html. Did you purchase this reader from them and verify that it works? I almost ordered but I was afraid Respironics might have altered the drivers they include with their bundled reader so that you have to buy the reader from them. I'd hate to pay $100 for the software only and then find out I've got to shell out another $150 for the reader when I could've bought both for $200. Thanks for any help.

FYI, I found another reader made by Mako Technologies:

http://www.mako-tech.com/pands/reader_sol/dt3500.cfm

This looks to be a rebranded Infineer DT-3500. I downloaded the drivers and they look to be Infineer drivers. I've got an e-mail request into them to ask. I found this unit online last night for $24 + $6 shipping.

If this one works it's the cheapest I've found. I'll let everyone know what I find out...

I installed with the cd sent out by Respironics, but the drivers look identical. Maybe this weekend I'll un-install and try it with the downloaded drivers from securetech. Let you know.

That would be great if you could let me know.

Did the Encore Pro software come with a driver CD for the reader even though you didn't buy the reader with it? If so, I should have no problem. I just wasn't sure I could get my hands on the Respironics drivers (they aren't on their web site that I could see). Thanks for any help!

Sleepman,
Hi. Getting my Remstar Auto w/C-Flex on Thursday of next week, so I want to order my Encore software and card reader. Did you find out if the two links between you and Tridens work with Encore? Please let me know if you find out because if I order it tomorrow, it should arrive by the time I pick up the machine.
Thanks so much for your help!

Cheaper card reader for Encore Pro

Post by Tridens » Fri Jul 22, 2005 10:21 pm

Hoping this will save some future Encore Pro users some money...

I talked with Mako Technologies this morning on the phone. The rep told me that they are actually the makers of the card reader that Respironics bundles with their software. They would sell me the reader for $50.

However, I found this link:

http://www.2factors.com/index.php?sp=&p ... s=&lang=en

This is a Hong Kong company that sells the reader for $24 + $6 shipping = $30!

The web site is a little clunky (make sure you sign up for an account and put in the correct contact information before you order), with some incomplete pages, and they look like a new company. However, they responded to my e-mails immediately (taking into account the 12-hour time difference, of course). You can pay them via PayPal...they have several verified sales this way which is a good sign. The rep told me I should have my reader in a week.

Sure beats $150 buying the same thing from Respironics!

I'll let everyone know when (hopefully not IF ) I get my package, and if it works correctly with Encore Pro. Stay tuned...

Tridens,
God bless you!!! With all the money I've spend in the past 10 days between first the Breeze which didn't work out, my pillow and my Ayr gel, and now I just bought the Swift that is coming, I was going to spend the $199 with this site to get the Encore and card reader. So I can now save $70 thanks to you. You really did the leg work for all of us.
I am ordering today. Did you order one, too? I am picking up my Remstar Auto on Thursday so hopefully it will be here shortly after.
Thanks again!

Lori,

You're most welcome! Yes, I ordered from 2factors.com. I'm a CPAP newbie and also trying to keep my costs down.... Keep in mind, though, I haven't actually tested this reader yet (nor received my reader from 2factors.com), so...buyer beware If you want to wait to order until I've confirmed I've received my reader and that it works with Encore Pro, I'll be happy to let you know.

Just didn't want you to order assuming it works and end up disappointed and with less in your pocket!

Sleepyman, I sent you an email asking for the info on the upgraded driver. Hope it's not impossible to do. I'm very good, though, with computers and all that, so if it's legit, it shouldn't be too much of a problem Are you emailing me back a site to go to get the driver or what?
As always, thanks for your help.

Tridens, I did order it this morning only to find out its driver is obsolete. I could have waited, as you said, to see if yours worked, but I decided to risk it at this point and see, for the small fee, if it would work. Hopefully with the updated driver for the reader, all will be all right. Let me know if you get yours soon and we'll compare notes.

Driver, etc.

Sleepyman,

Thanks for the URL on the driver. My guess is that the most current driver is available at the manufacturer's web site. Here's the URL:

http://www.mako-tech.com/support/

Lori,

I'll be hooking up my reader the minute I get it (not feeling great right now and I'm anxious to see my results--with the Respironics unit I can't see the results right on the unit's LCD like I could on the first machine I tried (the ResMed AutoSpirit). That was a great feature I wish Respironics included, but I really wanted to use MyEncore and have the C-Flex feature. Seems like the name of the game on units and masks is tradeoffs everywhere you look.

Catch you here later when I have news to report...have a great weekend, all!

Tridens,
Sorry to hear you're under the weather. Hope you feel better soon. You didn't get it delivered yet, though, did you? Hopefully by the time it arrives, you'll be feeling well. Let me know how you make out when you upgrade.
I looked at the link and read the page. I guess as long as the device comes up as recognized by Windows, you go to the second set of options, which was the Windows Auto Installation. Hope that is what happens when I try.
Anyway, thanks for all the info. Between you and Sleepyman, we may be in business.
Feel better...

Driver install

Post by Tridens » Sat Jul 23, 2005 1:50 pm

Lori,

Re: the types of driver packages on the mako-tech.com site: more than likely, you'll want the "Windows Automatic Installers" package. The first set of drivers (Windows manual) is if you want to muck around with Device Manager, etc. Unless you have a problem with the Auto-Install package, you won't need to mess with the manual package.

Thanks for the well-wishes. Actually, the OSA is why I'm not feeling great. Only been on CPAP for about 6 weeks now. I'm anxious to see my results via Encore Pro, as I suspect I need to up my pressure settings but don't want to do so blindly.

No, my unit hasn't arrived yet. Just payed for the unit this morning, and it hasn't shipped yet...
