OT - It's the carbs stupid!

Post by DreamStalker » Thu Jul 17, 2008 7:00 am

Makes sense, our species evolved as hunter/gatherers and not really designed (intelligently or not) to eat breads and candy ... and the corn industry is trying to convince us that HFCS is natural and no more harmful than sugar

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Two films I recommend regarding corn are "King Corn" and one made by Jerry Garcia's ex wife that I can't remember the name of.

We are probably going to have nothing to eat the way we are playing God with the seed stock.

Yep! I read the same story in this link yesterday:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25708495

For a long time the ADA (American Diabetes Association) has promoted carbs in the diets of people with diabetes, which makes it look like they're in cahoots with the doctors to keep prescribing medication for diabetics (the medical dependency scenario). "Here.....take these pills and you can just keep stuffing the same junk in your pie-hole." There are many who have been able to control their glucose levels by diet and exercise. So, I was glad to see that article for both the weight-loss and diabetes connections (although it reported that the "Mediterranean" diet seemed to help diabetics more).

It was also discussed here (for you diabetics that want to read that discussion):

YES YES YES! WHAT JEFF SAID!!!!!

I have to say, I'm one of the few people on this planet who says the same thing about Soy. I'm really sceptical about Soy. It's marketed so heavily. It's the new HFCS. I've heard people say Soy is one of the most GMO (Genetically Modified) foods on the market.

Luckily, I'm not a big fan of tofu, but when you're trying to eat healthier it's tough to avoid soy. At least buy products that claim to be NON-GMO.

Which is a great thing to do with any product.

Trader Joe's is a great source for non-GMO foods. Find yours here; http://www.traderjoes.com

Please support your local agricultural economy. Shop at a farmers market or food stand. Ask for locally produced foods in your regular grocery. If you don't support your local farmer, we will all be eating food imported from third world countries where they don't have the health and safety standards and checks we have here.

You think those tomatoes came from the US? Wise up.

I'm not saying US produce is NEVER at fault - it is - but if you want to keep eating, you better start buying American, my friend, and support your local farming economy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you and good morning!

Babs,

According to what I've heard/read, they haven't even been able to determine whether it WAS the tomatoes. They've been looking at peppers and other things, too.

I think I'll continue to BBQ my steak, bake my potato, nuke my veggies and eat it with bread chasing with ice cold beer, supplementing that every other day or so with flautas, tacos, burritos rice and beans and Pacifico, those foods seem to compliment each other, one plugs you up, the other cleans like a tornado...come on ice cream

I have personally tested tomatos and Jalapeno peppers in my area (just bought a pound yesterday) and both still work fine.

they say the atkins diet really does work the best, they need to find the authors of that study a few years ago that said it didn't and shoot them in the head.
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Yeah, I know. I conveniently left that part out of my argument. I'm a left wing spin-meister, you know.

The reason they can't figure it out is because it is not the tomatoes that make you sick, it's the salmonella ... find the salmonella then kill the little buggers and problem is solved

Of course those little buggers are really little and hard to find

I've been eating tomatoes and peppers without any problems too.

Someday, science will catch up to what the dogs are barking about

D S writes...our species evolved as hunter/gatherers and not really designed (intelligently or not) to eat breads and candy

And I agree.

Re carbs and diet, there is an intermediate diet, which does not reduce them as much as Atkins, but isn't a bread-pasta-sugar- free-for-all.

The Zone diet is something I've been following for years, and my weight and blood chemistry are just great. The Zone refers to a fairly tightly controlled ratio of carbs/fats/protein. Besides moi, I've seen it work on many folks, including diabetics.

Diets, however, can have near-cultish adherents, so I need to be careful about recommending something too highly; and, I certainly recognize that of the myriad paths to healthful diets, different plans work for different folks.

Regards all - - Tom

Thank you for that FAIR AND BALANCED review of The Zone!

I really need to make some lifestyle/dietary changes and STICK TO THEM. This is really helpful to me.

Thank you!

Believe it or not, the various food manufacturers have (through their funding) heavily influenced the "Official" Food Pyramid. That pyramid has gone through some interesting changes, and none have really been supported purely by scientific research. At least, that is my take on the topic as presented to me by Registered Dieticians.

BTW, there is a doctor who has been on the cutting edge of supporting research...not waiting years, for example, to trust that ulcers are caused by H. pylori. He also wrote the sports medicine section in the Merck Manual, and has an archive of great articles based on his radio show.

Recipes are also included, written by his dietician wife. The recipes are based on whole grains (complex carbohydrates) with VERY minimal use of flour, sugar, and other simple carbohydrates.

See all this corn right across the street?

None of it is eatable.

Hey dreamstalker and den - just thought to let you know that you've done your good dead for the day I've been having issues with blood sugar levels for a long time now but of course the oh-so-clever docs always said "nothing wrong with you" ... your link on the diabetes.org site led to me to post there... and now i've got the kick in the behind I needed to finally figure out if I am pre-diabetic. So maybe it will turn out that this small act will turn into something life-saving for me. Thanks
