Mirage Swift LT

Post by Murphy » Thu Jun 12, 2008 10:18 am

Just got my new LT yesterday and tried it last night. I put it on with the med pillows, it was great when I was sitting up watching tv, but as soon as I laid down on my side I started to have trouble, my pillow kept blocking the air and it started to move around and I couldn't get a seal I think the pillows may be a little too soft, it also felt like I wasn't getting enough air. After about 2 hours I gave up and put my Simplicity on, I love the simplicity but hate the marks on my nose, so I used to switch off between the simplicity and the original swift.
I am going to try again tonight but I'll try using the small pillows. Has anyone else tried?

Swift LT

Post by lmmo » Thu Jun 12, 2008 10:48 pm

I attended the 2008 Sleep Conference in Baltimore. I was delighted to see Pur-Sleep, meet Johnny from this sight, and speak with the Snuuglehose rep.
Anyway, Resmed gave me a Swift LT to try. I really found it to be more comfortable than the Swift 2, Opti-Life, and OPUS. However I am solely a back sleeper, so I can not review how it feels when side sleeping. The ONLY downfall is that even with the snugglehose, I had a tremendous amount of condensation in the pillows. It was so much so that I would wake up choking and snorting water. I did try turning down the humidifier, but this did not make a difference. Has anyone else noticed the increased condensation at the pillows? Other than that, no leaks, more comfortable and less lines on the face.

I would like to see snugglehose create covers with a reflective interior or better yet maybe a mini bubble wrap as an interior layer. I would bet the improved insulation would go a long way over the straight felt approach they use now.

They do have custom orders. Anybody game to try it.

I have 2 nights on the LT. First night went very well with very few leaks, and in fact the lowest leak rate I had ever recorded. The second night, I got to bed late and just couldn't get the pillows to properly seal. After a couple hours I went back the the full nasal mask. Overall, the LT is very comfortable and allows a lot of freedom in sleeping position. We'll try again tonight to solve that leak issue.

Got my Mirage Swift LT today and just tried two mask test mode trials and it was a 5 star excellent fit on my S8 AII. I was under the impression I had to shove some tubes plugs up my nose and was struggling to make them go in my nose slots. After getting frustrated I said screw it let's just try it. It sealed fist try and had to open my mouth to know it was really pumping air since I couldn’t hear it. It's soft as a real pillow and it so quite I had to turn the TV off when I was using it to even hear the air hiss out.

I will try it for real tonight just cleaned up and retired my 2 week old Ultra Mirage II nasal mask that was leaving me with a sore nose bridge. I’m excited that I’m sleeping with something new tonight. ;^)

I got my Swift LT from cpap.com yesterday. I tried it last night for the first time and it was WONDERFUL. Clearly and without a doubt the best mask I've tried so far. That is only one night, of course, but the difference was clearly apparant. First of all, it is soooooo quiet. It fits so nicely and gently against the nose that you hardly know it is there. When I turned over, it didn't budge. No leaks, no sound, no strap marks, no negatives so far.

The footprint is small. Side sleeping is not an issue with this mask as it is with the swift II. The headgear is also an improvement over swift II--no buckle digging into your occipital lobe. Velcro back there instead. And the hose routs up the center of the face like the opus so you can turn from back to side to side without issue.

I have been using the Opus 360 for about a week, and prior to that I was a long time devotee of the swift II. I hope that the LT continues to work as well as it did last night. The opus 360 is very similar, but doesn't have as much adjustment of the nose piece to get the perfect angle and it also is louder. The new swift LT also has double wall pillows which makes for a better seal. My overall evaluation is that it is just a little bit better than Opus 360--for me the extra comfort and quiet are worth the extra money.

One thing I have noticed about all pillows is that you must be sure the pillows are scrupulously clean every day and your nose must be free of all oil wherever the pillows touch, or whistling and leaking may wake you. The day I realized that, my sleep improved vastly. I don't usually wash my face before bed unless I've worn makeup--but now I am sure to always wash my nose and upper lip to be sure it is free of oil before bed and that makes a big difference in the leak and whistle department.

Hope this review helps. I am getting very close to delivery of my baby, so I may not be able to give further comment for a while. Best of luck to other early adopters of the swift LT--I hope you all will be as happy with it as I am since it is such a big investment compared to other similar masks.

Same here.

Oh oh.

I was thinking of those dual walled pillows: If air get in between those walls, so will water when you wash them.

If water gets there, it has to dry.

If the water is hard (very much so where I live) it will leave a mineral deposit between the walls.... so the final rinse has to be with distilled water.

What if it doesn't dry? (Hair dryer or cpap I suppose....).

Any special cleanning instructions for that mask?

Disclaimer I have only been on a xPap for about three weeks. After playing with the new Swift LT I was disappointed it didn’t have a quick click disconnect snap like my Ultra Mirage II from the hose since I still get up a one or two times each night for the bathroom. Then I figured out all I have to do is pull the whole rig off my head, it was that simple. I can even put the mask back on in bed in the dark, it’s so simple. With my Ultra Mirage II required me to put it on in the bathroom and I needed the lights to get the fit right if I wanted a good seal. It still would be nice for that quick disconnect so that can clean the mask each night.

My first night started off great it was so quite with my S8 AutoSet II and this new Swift LT that I could hear my girlfriend’s deep breathing and some birds chirping outside that was keeping my from falling to sleep. I have got use to my old mask covering other noise and it was strange hearing something other than the hiss of air from the nasal mask.

I sleep to about 2:30AM and decided I needed some nasal spray since I was blocked in one nostril. When back to bed and slid it on but I started playing with it since I now had a small whistling and leaks. The air pressure seem to be really blowing hard screwing with it for an hour and couldn’t get a good seal or stop the whistling that was now much louder and the exhale sound was very annoying.

So after an hour I got up went back in the bathroom cleaned my face again and pulled out some KY Jelly on my nostrils. That did the trick and it then sealed and was quite again. Sleep great the rest of the night. I don’t know if it was the nasal spray or what but for me I have to have a perfect seal with this mask or I can use it. I almost went back to my UM II but the KY Jelly was the only reason I hung in there with the Swift LT last night. These were my results.

Pressure 11.2 ( about same as UM II mask )
Leak 0.36L/s ( about same as UMII but had that bad hour so think this will be better)
AHI 2.3 ( I have never been below 5.5 with UM II)
AI 0.4 ( Never below 1.6 before)
HI 1.9 ( never below 3.x before)

The tip of my nose was a bid sore but after a half hour even that feeling was gone. The best part is my old Ultra Mirage II mask marks on my face and the bridge of my nose can finally heal. This Swift LT was worth every penny but so was the KY Jelly.

I ordered mine on friday and it is on it's way! I'm sure i'll recieve it by monday.

I purchased it at cpap.com for $149.00 & Free S&H. I thought that I saw it lister week before last at cpap.com for $159.00 so I guess they went down by $10.00 , you ROCK cpap.com !

Has anyone else seen it cheaper than that? I've looked everywhere that I can think of and the price was the same everywhere $159.00

I will give it a test drive of 2 or three days, then I will post my results, although I hate wearing straps on my face, the Swift 11 mask has been the best and most comfy mask for me so fay and i've purchased 7 masks ans the Swift LT will be the 8th. and while in the 1st. month cpap trial, I tried the Comfort Gel so that's (8 masks) so far!

Keep the reviews coming, and thanks for the heads up on the reduced price on CPAP.com! (Last I checked, it was $159.00).

Also, as someone who pays out of pocket for all my "hardware", I'd like to encourage those of you who end up with an LT and start hating it after a night or three to consider posting it for swap, or on cpapauction.com. (I just got outbid on one there the other week!)

Night two on LT went just as well as night one. I slept straight thru from 11pm to 6 am and I'm 9 months pregnant, so there you go. THAT is an endorsement with meaning.

O, I always wash my mask and face right before bed and I had no trouble with the pillows--I kind of shake them off and use them slightly wet and don't have any trouble. My only worry is that the double walls look thinner and more delicate so I wonder if it could possibly tear if I'm not careful. I will be cautious though.

Going in for induction tomorrow morning.

I posted earlier that I had mixed results. I got things adjusted and settled on the medium pillows and have resolved all the leaks. The mask is very quiet unless my covers get right in front of the exhaust diffuser. I sleep through the night and am feeling very rested. Data suggests that AHI is continuing a downward trend. I find the mask much more comfortable than my former ComfortClassic nasal mask. At least if my nose itches, I can scratch it.

I paid for this out of pocket, even though I have 100% coverage, masks are only replaced on 6-month intervals. I consider it money well spent.

Anyone want to swap a medium pillows for large or small pillows?
