aeiomed aura mask back belt slipping

Post by feeling_better » Mon Jun 02, 2008 6:22 pm

Hi,

I am very new to this forum. Read a few msgs, and very happy to see how helpful the members here are.

I have been using an aura mask for two weeks. One problem I have is that the belt slips upwards in the back of the head. Is there anybody else here experience this? Is there any workaround for this?

What I have found that works for me is that I use a headband (I purchased a pak of 6 from Dollar General for a $1.00) to stablize the mask. I put the mask on with the headgear and then slip the headband on over the top. The headband is around my head with the front being right below the vent and running above my ears and around the back of my head.

Other suggestions is too look under the lightbulb and read RestGal's mods on the headrest. Many people morph it and use tights in place of the headgear.

sleepycarol, Thanks for the suggestion. I have started reading the other ideas in various msgs of aura. I thought almost none of them specifically addressed the problem of the back belt moving (slipping) up.

I have made the headgear as small as it will go and even add some more velcro to make it more snug -- it is still too big. With the headband around the mask the headgear actually kind of "floats" and really doesn't do much. My headgear rides up, etc. but with the headband the mask stays in place and stays put.

It used to do that to me - until I cut it off. I now use the deconstructed mask.

I have also discovered that some of the slippage had to do with the way a leaned on my head when turning - a habit I must have developed to keep from leaning on a badly sprained leg I suppose. Or maybe a habit developed to stabilize the Breeze when I turned. Once I became conscious of how I dug my head into the pillow, I started doing less of that, and the pantyhose strap I use on the deconstructed version slips far less.

IIRC, people has a similar problem with the swift headgear, and solved it with some Velcro stuck on the headgear and clinging to their hair.

I found that taking 2 hook-sided pieces of sticky velcro, and sticking them together (sticky side to sticky side) worked to make a nice, double sided velcro strap stabilizer. Many of the masks now have Velcro-adhering material making up the headgear.

Some see this as a bit of a shock, but think...Velcro rollers. They hold themselves into the hair with hooks, and the Velcro strips I made held the straps of my mask stay in place easily and cheaply. Sticky velcro can usually be found in a dollar store for more than you will need for...$1!

Best of luck.

Hi feeling_better,
I don't know if you have read this post, but I've done this to mine and it is awesome now. I don't wake up with the strap falling off and I sleep all night now. The aura mask is my 13th one in 2 years and I have finally found one I can sleep with and be comfortable. I ordered another aura just in case something happens to the one I'm using. Here is the link to rested gals deconstruction. I hope this helps you!

How do you keep the velcro from becoming entangled in your hair. I have tried it and it hurts when trying to remove it. I don't have a tender scalp (I grew up with four brothers ).

feeling_better:

Check the "tips for swift users" post which is still on the first page of todays postings and I think that fix will also work well for the problem you are having with the Headrest (aura) slipping!

Hope this helps!

Steve,

Here's a link to the topic Steve (ufo13) mentioned, about the velcro fix for the Swift, which might also work with the Headrest (Aura) headgear's back of head strap:

rested gal, thank you!

Incidentally, do you know if the search in this forum looks only in the topic or does it look inside the content as well. For some reason the searches are not quite finding the existing posts which match them. (I am quite used on line searches). Are there any known problem in our forum search method?

You'll have better luck if you go to Google -
use the syntax "search term" site:http://www.cpaptalk.com

Good Luck,

GumbyCT,

Thank you very much! That was a great tip. This should be posted at prominent place at the forum, such as in OurCollectiveWisdom!!

I should have known this trick, since I had done similar sites with a lot of big corporations and other sites

On the forum's search button, it help to click on the "posts search" instead of the "topics".

Sometimes (e.g. at a certain time yesterday) it doesn't search though. Brings up nothing, when you know there should be something.

Back Strap Slippage

Post by AGrannyTooSoon » Thu Jun 05, 2008 1:16 pm

To keep my back strap from slipping upward, I put may hair in a low pony tail at the nape of my neck. Then I slip the back strap under the pony tail and it works great. If you don't have long enough hair to pull back, you're SOL.
