I'm 39 male, 6'1" and the last time I could see the scale I was at 263. When I was in the Air Force 17 years ago, I was down to 175, and that is my goal now. So, I need to lose 85-90 pounds. It's kinda hard to do when the most exercise I get is walking from the truck to the office in the morning and from the office to the truck in the afternoon. The doctor has threatened with cholesterol meds if I don't get my weight down, and at the same time reduce my cholesterol.

Right now the total cholesterol is at 249, so I've got some work to do.

OK - I'm 6' and 215. The doc says for me to get out of 'overweight', I'll have to drop to about 180.

I have a pretty large, athletic build, and yes, I could stand to lose anywhere from 15 to 20 pounds - which the sleep doc says will reduce my snoring to nearly nothing (about a 10% drop in body weight).

Of course, I have to acutally LOSE the weight....

61 year old Caucasion female. 202,just lost 13 lbs from moving(what stress!),and now am going to Weight Watchers, and starting to exercise(walk). Been going to WW for a lot of years. Off and on.
Just started on Lipitor, because cholesterol numbers a little high, but also have controlled high blood pressure, and am overweight. So,Dr. thought I should go on the med.
I am also on Thyroid med,but low dose. Was told that taking this med would not really help me lose weight.
So, my goal in life is to lose weight, and get healthier.

Unfortunately, my high cholesterol was more genetic than diet related. I topped out at 519 for triglycerides before I started on Lipitor. It is now normal, thanks to Lipitor.

I do not have diabetes, high BP or any other conditions.

I tried to get people involved in some sort of weight loss support through CPAPTALK.com before, but really didn't have anyone to help me organize something.

If anyone would like to help me figure something out and maybe work as a team trying to bring this issue to improve out health by losing weight, please let me know if you have any ideas on how we could do it . I know there is a great forum for this called: 3 Fat Chicks, but we have such a great community of OSAers, it would be nice if we could figure out something here.

I'm 6'1", 240. I was 275 before I started CPAP in Nov. '04. I'd like to loose another 10-20 lbs.

Well, looks like I'm the only 1 in my boat. I'm 6'0 and 170 lbs. Healthy? Yah, but my apnea makes me feel like crap.

I was reading through my sleep study and it had the sleep impressions, and one was "mild obesity". I don't know if I almost laughed or cried. I'm 23, and 170 lbs.... i'm not obese. So read through the study and they had my hieght as 5'6 instead of 6'0. So hopefully I still don't need "frequent exercise and diet" as it recommends.

I am a 53 year old female, 5'8" and I weigh about 195 (I gained 50 pounds in the last year after I stopped smoking ). I have lost 22 pounds in the last 3 months and am working on the next 30. I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol (both for a long time). I also have a mild case of cardiomyopathy (recently diagnosed). I am following the doctor's orders and I feel great.

Female 44 (closing in on 45)
5'7" 250# ( all tests are in and have OK from Doc to start exercise program --if I can find the energy)

My goal is to lose 100#
My other goal is to ditch the sleep apnea when I lose the 100# ( I already feel a love/hate relationship with my machine and I haven't gotten it yet. Going to Doc in about 2 hours to get prescription.

Have a 10 yo son who is starting to follow my side of family for weight issues. He also has elevated cholesterol (Sept 04/251 - May 04/231). The cholesterol is coming from Dad.

My entire family has other health issues so we are slowly starting to jump on the health and wellness road.

Side affects on perscription meds scare me more than my health issues so we choose alternative options whenever possible

And just to set the record strait, I'm not fat I'm fluffy

Sick and tired of being sick and tired,
Harmony

5'4-1/2" and 133 lb. About what I've always weighed as an adult (although I liked 125 the best). Hubby is probably 25 lb. overweight and we are on the South Beach diet, phase 2. Both of us found out we have severe OSA in January. Both totally compliant - he with his Activa and me with my Swift. Wouldn't dream of going anywhere without our CPAP's now. Do feel better but hoping for more energy as time goes on. The first change that I noticed was a remarkable improvement in mental clarity. For a blonde, that's really great! When we went for our sleep study, there were several SKINNY people there who had been diagnosed with OSA. In fact, my doc told me he shuddered to think that if I'd walked into his office five or ten years ago, I'd probably have been sent outa there untreated as it was figured that no one with a fairly slender body type could possibly have OSA. Who knew.

I am overweight too. I'm 5'9" male and 200. To get a BMI of 25 I should be 165. I was thin, underweight even, all my life until marriage and I started eating all my wife's wonderful cooking. That plus knee and back injuries took away running and tennis, so now mowing the lawn is pretty much all the exercise I get . Oh God. I finally use a smiley and it's a pathetic one.

Hey, Swordz -- even if you don't need to diet, you DO need frequent exercise! Helps you to sleep, not to mention all the other benefits Take a hike! I mean, go on a hike! Even if it's a short one!

EXCELLENT advice! My personal opinion is the key to getting excercise is finding a type of excercise you can ENJOY, and there are so many options now for both finding what works with various body parts that have worn out, and to find something that grabs your fancy.

Fer instance......The current "fad" of using "high tech" dual walking sticks (that look like adjustable ski poles) are a gawdsend for those of us who love to hike but have aging knees and/or backs, plus they give a full body workout.

Hike? Eh, I'll keep to the kayaking and playing soccer.

The whole acrophobia and hiking doesn't work well together. (Who'd a thought?)

But yah, being active is something I have to do just to "maintain" my body weight. Not to mention wearing myself out to hopefully get to sleep quicker. Amazing how much metabolism I've lost in the last 5 yrs since high school (ha, now i feel like a kid sayin that!)

5'9" male. 36 yrs old. 190 lbs.

Yes, a little portly, but I wouldn't consider myself obese. I could stand to drop some pounds.
