Missing Data Again

Hi Gumby,

I've had two cards ... same problem (I had wondered also about the cards). Sometimes I'll go a month between data losses. One of these days (when I have time!) I'll analyze my data to see if the problem is correlated with a longer than usual night on the machine....

I have been using APAP close to 6 months now. So far, 2 nights missing data. I have 2 cards, I find one card will do, no need to swap cards. I suspect it could be contact problem or even hardware problem.

The other day, I went to the bank to close account. I produce my identity card (IC) which is a smart card (I live in a different part of the world). The clerk plug in the IC into reader, fail to read. She tried different readers but fail to read. After a few more tries, she finally get the reading. APAP smart card system may not be the same as my IC but I think this is a short coming of smart card system.

Firmware version 4.01 for my M-Series AFlex.

Well I got the same problem, started CPAP on December 20th and only got my card reader and the software last friday and read my data then (leaving data on the card), all the data was there (well the last 6 days of detailed but the full 15 days for the rest).

I know I downloaded the data again Sunday and it worked, only thing special was that I slept from 9am to 3pm sunday (don't ask!).

This morning I re-read the card before I went to my DME to make sure I would have the data (DME normally erases the card unless we ask not to).

But oups, last 2 days missing detailed data (but compliance is there).

I know the DME downloaded the data (to send to the doctor) and erased the card this morning (I asked them to erase it). I did not asked to have the printed report since I already had it.

Now that I have seen this thread, I just called them to email me the report and then I can let you all know if they will have the 2 days I was missing on their printed report!

If they do have the 2 days and I don't it means it is related to software / card reader (since it would be the same card!)

Regards,
Daniel

Love it!

Much better solution than moaning and groaning about it.

It could also let you get by with a higher leak rate. Jim

Gumby, you said...The ONLY time I remove the card is when the light is red.

Well, the only time that I've lost data was this AM, and as I recall, I yanked the card as soon as the Encore Viewer prompted me to view the report.

Hopefully, that is the problem. I'll be careful to leave that critter in until I can save the results to an MS doc imaging file.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner, was off line for awhile. I do use my Auto in the Auto mode, set at 8 to 12, with C-Flex set at 2. I average 7 hours a night on the machine, weekends are rarely more than 8 hours. Interestingly enough, my firmware is version 2.14.

Cheers!

I'm beginning to see the light - Respironics are YOU listening?

While replying to another thread I realized that I haven't had any missing data in awhile. Come to think of it I had changed my setup adding an HC 150 & a power strip to turn it on/off on 14 Jan 2008. It occurred to me I hadn't seen this problem since.

So it's either fixed? Not
Pure co-incidence? Yes/No

Or the more freq. power on/off is like a boot-up for the machine.
Or the power strip is filtering out A/C noise from the power supply.

Anyone w/an M series have O'scope they could check the power supply to see if there is a lot of noise?

I've written extensively about the data loss problem in the Respironics M-series units. I documented it thoroughly and presented it to Respironics by email after talking with their support folks several times. After I sent them my data output clearly showing the data gaps that appear in several ways, they suddenly stopped responding to my calls and emails.

That they were just bought by Phillips leads me to conclude, in part, that Respironics didn't want the missing data problem to be a cause of lowering their stock value if it became headline fodder on the web or on TV news.

Considering that there are probably several million M-series units in patient use, or stocked by venders, doctors and DME's for sale, distribution and use it's doubtful Respironics will ever address the problem in those existing units by firmware upgrades or unit replacement.

My problem is thus: With such a glaring and common problem in the M-series unit data collection and presentation ability.... how many bugs, if any, are in the therapy algorithms that could or do negatively affect patient therapy? I have to wonder about the overall integrity of the entire unit, despite my liking Respironics flow generators.

My DME stocks only the Respironics units and due to my situation I cannot switch medical treatment to end up with another DME who may stock another or other xPAP brands.

By Respironics denying to complainers like me that the data problem exists, when it is obviously evident and widespread, causes me to seriously question the direction of the company.

Care to share your findings, conclusion, or anything else?

Would love to hear others thoughts or findings on the subject of Missing Data.

At this point I am wondering if anyone is using a UPS on an M series - if so are you missing the data or not seeing the problem?

I use a UPS and it makes no difference. I started a new thread on this topic with the hope of getting the attention of Respironics.

Nelson, now I am confused - I thought you said you never had the missing data problem, right? So maybe the UPS does make a difference?

Maybe you can try it without the UPS?

Hi Gumby,

No, a UPS wouldn't make any difference to the missing data problem.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes...I definitely used to hava a missing data problem. I have always used a ups and still had the problem. The problem has gone away since I erase the card every day.

I'll go disconnect the ups and see if that causes a problem. I'll continue to erase the card everyday.

To recap my results:
UPS & leave data on card - occasional missing data
UPS & erase card - no missing data since 11/13/07
No ups & erase card - to be determined
