Well, obviously I do know how to "tweak" both my Elite and my Vantage. I'm just a little more cautious than some because I do have COPD. And it didn't take ANY trips to my local DME supplier 'cause at the time I had a real sheister DME supplier. Nor did it take many sleep doctor visits as he would always take my calls and I could FAX him data plus a great sleep lab manager who didn't charge me to come in and have her help me w/mask fitting problems. In fact TWO of my sleep doctor visits were ones "I" insisted upon because I would NOT accept any CPAP equipment until I saw him and he went over the data w/me from the evaluation and titration and "we" agreed on what equipment was going to be ordered for me.

Bill - are you saying 0.06l/sec are out of control leaks?

I did up the minimum to 9 last night - I slept pretty well. Still had an AHI over 9.

Actually my AHI last night was 8.5

Most of the problems (Apneas) were at a time I know I was awake.

Leak Median was 2.4l/min, 95% was 6, max was 21 but I use autostart and the graph spikes when I remove my mask.

I think actually when I sleep through the night my AHI is lower. Hmm. I wonder if all this is down to me not sleeping through.

Pressure Last night median 10.8, 95% 12.4 Max 13.4 so I think that Max is a fair bit lower as well.

Maybe increasing the minimum to 9 was actually a good idea.

It sounds to me like increasing the minimum was a good move. I'm not familiar with the ResMed machine and how it computes statistics, so I'll leave further comment to those more experienced, except to say that if it were me, I'd not make any changes for a few days and see if things stay stable at these values.

being awake during use

I see that some people have mentioned that the data during wakefulness is useless. I found the same thing, but sort of wonder why we get this result since logically we should have normal rates during this time. Glad to see I am not the only one who gets this sort of result.

Increasing the minimum pressure usually is a good idea if you're trying to reduce AHI and have leaks already well under control. Yep.

I was under the impression that my leaks were well under control but I was not so sure from what Bill said.

What leak readings should I be getting? The Resmed compensates for the mask type and I am getting say between 0.06-0.12 l/sec - that's good yes?

Last nights AHI was 3.3 with no apneas.

I am planning on leaving it at 9 as the minimum pressure.

OK Last night

AI 0
HI 3.3
AHI 3.3

Leak Median 3.6 l/min = 0.06 l/sec
Leak 95% 7.2 l/min = 0.12 l/sec
Leak Max 18 l/min but that is only because I use smartstart and it blows for a couple of seconds when the mask is removed.

I also removed the mask this morning when I woke up rather than leaving it on as I knew I wouldn't go back to sleep again.

Should also add that pressure median was 10, 95% was 11.6, Max 12.4

Raising the minimum to 9 seems to have reduced the top as well. Is that normal?

I'd say so. It didn't take as long to get to the pressure needed to stop the event as when the minimum pressure was lower. That being the case the event was stopped sooner and thus didn't need as great a pressure to stop it. It was stopped earlier in its "cycle" or progress.

How come I always make things clear as mud when at least "I" understand what it is I'm trying to say??

Makes sense Slinky.

Can someone comment on my leak rates please? Bill had me questioning myself about them.

OK. According to the Resmed clinicial manual for the S8,

Star Rating L/5 L/min
***** Excellent 0.00-0.18 0.0-10.8
****_ Very Good 0.19-0.26 10.9-15.6
***__ Good 0.27-0.34 15.7-20.4
**___ Adjust Mask 0.35-0.41 20.5-24.6
*____ Adjust Mask 0.42-0.49 24.7-29.9
_____ Adjust Mask >=0.5 >=30

So my leaks seem fine to me.

The mask fit display just shows the result of the previous mask fitting test...... however, long ago you did it. It doesn't indicate anything per se about the previous night!

BTW, its up to you to try various sleeping positions etc during the mask fitting test run period if you want to get a useful result. Otherwise if you just sit on the edge of your bed (or whatever) your with the mask on during the test, its pretty easy to get a 5 star result!

Your sleep clinic, or whoever you got your S8 II from, should have advised you on that!
bigk wrote:Leak Median 3.6 l/min = 0.06 l/sec
Anything less than 0.10 l/sec is usually OK. What mask type do you have set in the S8 II?

Cheers,

Bill
