No Power

Post by SleepGuy » Mon Jan 07, 2008 11:31 pm

Goose just told me he's one of the millions without power due to the winter storms in N. California.... Hang in there Goose! He's got a generator.

Which makes me wonder what I would do if the power went off.... I'm completely unprepared for that--not even a generator.

Try the Scented CPAP Mask with Pur-Sleep's CPAP Aromatherapy--CPAP Diffuser and Essential Oils.

If you're anything like me, it means you'll toss and turn and get no sleep at all.

I had that happen a couple of months ago, and it was enough to convince me that, although I'm really battling to get my numbers right, I'm already very well adapted to sleeping with the machine, and cannot get comfortable without it.

I now have a deep cycle battery (a week's honeymoon in the back of beyond, with no power helped with the excuse) so I can at least get air, even if it's not humidified. Actually, due to the fact that most nights where I live are misty, I'm no sure how much I need humidification anyway, but I bought it for the winter which is dryer.

How long will the battery last if power is out for more than two nights?

Bret, thanks for letting us know Goose is alive, if not WELL.

You might surf some of the "camping" threads, too. I live in an area that - god willing and knock on wood - doesn't lose power very often, nor for very long. I'm thinking a Xantrex would be the best choice for me, since it's got a built in trickle charger and I can keep it tucked away in the bedroom for emergencies, and still have a nice portable unit for camping.

amazon.com/Xantrex-Powerpack-Jumpstarter-Inverter-Backup/dp/B000E6LEIC/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1199812030&sr=8-1

I'm so girlie. I like that it's all self contained and tidy and has a carrying handle. A bare deep cycle battery scares me. Now, if my ex BF was still living with me, he'd have already hooked that DC up and had it ready. God love the man for being the world's best boy scout! Anytime there's an emergency - he's the man I'm calling!

Interesting, here's another version:

amazon.com/Xantrex-Technologies-852-2007-DPP-600HD-Powerpack/dp/B000TKHMWK/ref=pd_bbs_sr_5?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1199812030&sr=8-5

Costco is selling one that LOOKS JUST LIKE a Xantrex, but no name on it. And it's only the 400, not the 600. And it's the same price as the Xantrex 400 on Amazon. I figure, for a few dollars more, get the 600. Or go whole hog and get the 1500. At least it's on wheels:

amazon.com/Xantrex-Technologies-Powerpack-500-Watt-802-1500/dp/B00005RHQQ/ref=pd_bbs_sr_7?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1199812030&sr=8-7

You'll still need to buy the special cord for your particular Xpap unit.

Good luck! Be Prepared! And if you can't, well, don't name it after me!

LOL,
Babs

Just a thought. Once you get a battery, it may be a gooid idea to get a small power inverter for your car. It can be purchased from radio shack, walmart, or just about any store with an automtive section. It just plugs into the lighter recepticle. If power is out for a few days, it can be charged from the inverter, assuming you can run your car for a few hours to do the charging.
