As stated I'm cheap -- and -- looking into changing my mattress and looking at air beds an found the ComfortAir Cerenity queen dual chamber at about half the price???

Is there other knock-off's or why should I buy or NOT get the ComfortAir?

Also note we are both BIG PEOPLE {thats code for FAT!!!}

My hubby researched these beds (name brand) and he found out that the pumps go out sooner than you think they would, and they are hard to fix or replace. His opinion was that you'd have to buy a new bed if the pump goes out.

Bert,

I own one of the air mattresses (actually it's a Comfort Select). I don't think you can go wrong as long as it has the 20 year warranty. There are some cons to owning one, though.

1. The gap between the two chambers tends to make you roll toward the middle, especially if you are "Big"
2. depending on the bedframe you use, the mattress will shift position when you get out of the bed.

IMO none of these are deal killers.

They do not deflate when the power goes out. I can't speak to the issue sleepyred brought up other than to say, I've had mine 5 years and no problems here.

I would recommend you get the biggest pillowtop you can for the mattress - way more comfortable and the sheets fit better.

Good Luck,

pumps

Post by Catnapper » Mon Aug 27, 2007 6:54 am

We have 2 Select Comfort beds, a king size and an extra long twin. The twin one is over 2 years old and the king is at least 10. We have had no problems with the pumps, and the bed comes with a guarantee. The pump only runs when you raise or lower the pressure. I am not sure how it holds the pressure. No, they don't lose air pressure when the power goes out, either, so the pump doesn't need to have power to hold the pressure.

I have no interest in the company, and certainly don't sell the beds. Just wanted to report my experience with them.

I don't know if they still sell the beds that have a wired control rather than a remote. The wired ones are/were cheaper when I bought the twin bed. My husband made a wooden box for the under structure and I covered it with quilted cotton fabric to resemble a box spring. We bought the under structure for the king bed, but it is just a plastic box with a quilted cover. Nothing special, so far as we could tell.

One complaint I have is that the mattress is so light that it is hard to keep the covers tucked in at the bottom. There is not enough weight to hold them. I solved some of the problem by sewing the top sheet at the foot of the bed to be fitted like the bottom sheet. The blanket still slips and I am considering adding some length to the end, probably by sewing some old sheet to the bottom so there is more length to tuck under the mattress.

Maybe you could find a hotel that has these beds and spend a night there to test them. I had an adjustable Sleep Comfort bed in the hospital. That was nice, but you could hear the pump working as it adjusted. I don't know if those are commercially available, but I would get one someday if I felt I needed one.

I'm glad to hear such good reports on this bed - we've always been intrigued with the idea of one - but was told the pump only had a 1 year warranty. For those of you who have one - I am hearing you are having no trouble with your pumps (great!) but what warranty comes with the pump?

Thanks!

If the pump is Problem My thought was just hookup the M Pro CPAP and crank up the pressure.....

Do like the points of it being light and holding the sheets ???? Might need to install some clips or something.... THANKS Catnapper GOOD point -- with the cost savings I 'm sure the sleep number has the same problems??????

Have had a ComfortAir for 3 years now. No problems and a good deal. Same gaurantee as comfort select. This one time where it wasn't being cheap but being frugal and not paying for the brick and mortar stores as well as the national ad campaign.

Also definitely not tiny

Hi All.

My parents have a Select Comfort Adjustable air bed, and they LOVE it, and it has never give them any problems and once the pressure is where you want it... it stays that way!
Now, I have a Nautilus Sleep System, and I was dissapointed in that. The pump went out on one side after less than a year, and it does not hold pressure, I have to pump it up every few days, so it seems like I can never get it back to the "perfect Pressure" My advice is not to get that bed... but the Select Comfort is worth the money!
Just wanted to add my two cents!

Hi Bert!

Trust me, I don't know much! The nautilus sleep system is not made by ComfortAir, it just happens to be the bed I am stuck with! I just wanted to let you know to stay clear of that one!

I think the best thing you can do is get one that lets you have time to try it, and if you do not like it, you can return it.

Hopefully, you will a bed that works for you!

Do like the heads-up on Nautilus............. SORRY you got shafted..
I do like points on other problems people have with airbeds!!!!
The reason for the change is the other half doesn't like flopping the mattress --- or turning it!!! --------- Being one that listens to "The one to OBEY!" I HAVE BEEN LOOKING
and need the pro's & con's so atleast I can say "I TOLD YOU SO" --- Knowing she would neever complain where I could hear"""""""""
Bert
THANKX

Last night was my first night on a sleep number bed - replacing a water/bladder bed that leaked and started to mold under the mattress - probably my source of asthma.

Had the nice frame and headboards and just bought some new bedding so I stayed with the Ca King - sticker shock - $3000 for just the mattress (setup, taxes, hauling the old one). It is one of the higher quality beds and had features I wanted. I like the fact that it is modular for replacement of the top, foam, etc.

Most places I checked had 30 to 90 day free in-home but to get your money back, you had to buy a different bed from them.

No problems with my Remstar hose/mask, in fact I think I had less problems than before.

We have two Select Comfort Sleep Number 5000 mattress. The first one we got was about 2 or 3 years ago. It's a queen size waterbed replacement (yes there is a difference between the waterbed replacement queen and the plain old ordinary queen: the WBR queen is slightly longer and does not have the dense foam at the outside edges since with a waterbed box you don't have to worry about the side of the mattress "crushing" when you sit on the edge of the bed. Of course this also means you have the air support right to the very edge of the bed rail. I think it does have the foam piece that runs between the two air chambers though since which is what helps prevent that rolling to the middle if thw two sleeper are different weights)

Anyway... we LOVE it! Have had no problems whatsoever... EVER! When we finally decided to replace the king size waterbed mattress in the spare room we therefore elected to put the same mattress in there too. We ordered the second one direct from the factory on one of their yearly closeout sales they send us flyers for. Saved a BUNDLE. We paid about half what we paid for the queen size we bought at the Select Comfort store. One thing to note... since they didn't have the waterbed replacement in the closeout sale we bout the ordinary king without the foundation... BUT... at least in our case our waterbed turned out to be the Cal King rather than the regular king... so if your replacing a waterbed... MEASURE FIRST and make sure.

We opted for the two wired remotes on both beds. We did this for two reasons. One, if they're wired to the bed they are a lot harder to lose. And two, with the wireless remote you only get one... you use the same remote for both sides. Which means you can accidentally adjust your partners firmness (talk about something to cause a major fight) and if your partner keeps sticking the remote way over on the nightstand or something it can be annoying to have to get up and go find it just to change your own firmness level. True... we tend not to adjust the mattress level very often but it's nice to always know we can find our remotes when we want to.

I have had some trouble with my side of the bed getting a little soft over a period of several months (I'm rather heavy) but this only happens occasionally and is quickly remedied with a touch of a button. I have never had it go down over night (except one time when the remote dropped down between the mattress and the bed box and the down button got pinched down) When it does lose a little air it's litteraly over a period of several MONTHS.

One tip: when you change the sheets it is a LOT easier to get the sheets on if you pump both chambers up more or less all the way. This makes the bed "stiffer" and since it's so light you can litteraly pick up the corner with one hand while tugging on the sheet with the other.
