I asked sleep doc for sedative/hypnotic for sleep study. He gave me Ambien with the comment that it would make sleep-disordered breathing worse. Probably they all do. At least melatonin is not a controlled substance like almost all the others.
Well that's my feeling on it, and judging by how I feel the next day after taking stuff like that, I'm inclined to agree. Docs had me try a couple of sleep meds- they all did pretty much the same thing and I felt worse the next day- even tylenol pm will do that to me for soem reason

Lol...good old Snoredog. He complains when I present data from other studies to back up my work yet that's what he's doing to back up his own arguments. Interesting

and that is where you and Rooster are confused, that is your beer belly hocus pocus study not mine.

" Possible Side Effects

No serious risks associated with melatonin use have been reported. In one study, patients who took very high doses (6,000 mg nightly) for one month had no major side effects. But long-term studies of six months or more are lacking.
For most people, melatonin causes drowsiness 30 minutes after taking it. This effect may last for several hours, so you should not drive or handle heavy machinery during this time. Other side effects can include headache, stomach upset, lethargy, or disorientation. Some individuals report that melatonin can cause fuzzy thinking upon waking, or vivid and sometimes unpleasant dreams, and even make insomnia worse. Others find that the effects wear off quickly with continued use."

YES to the VIVID and UNPLEASANT dreams. Can you imagine any more unpleasant dream that about myself (72 yrs old) dancing naked in a Mexican Hat Dance????? This was after taking a 3 mg.
I do plan to get some of the 300 mcg and give that a try.
Ambien CR just isn't doing it for me anymore, I am waking up after about 6 hrs and can't go back to sleep..
My daughter was put on Ambien CR, she then started eating at night, with no memory of it. One night she ate a whole box of Ho Ho's. Another night she found evidence in the kitchen that she had cooked an omelet during the night. She stayed on Ambien for a month and gained 12 lbs. Needless to say she stopped taking Ambien.
I argued with my sleep doc about taking the Ambien and he said that it was better than not sleeping.
Tried Valerian and it didn'thelp. Tried Benadryl, MORE vivid nightmares.

There has to be a solution out here somewhere.

lol...yeah that link explains everything .

So tell me Snoredog, when are you going to publish some of your own work? I can't wait to read some of your well thought out scientific knowledge. I mean, one would assume that you would have published dozens of papers, written up vast amount of editorials and book chapters, particularly given that you believe:

"someday science will catch up to what I'm saying..."

I DO have one of those Healthline books UNCOMMON CURES FOR EVERYDAY AILMENTS sitting on top of my toilet, its contributors are Doctors, Ph.d's, and Nobel Prize winning Doctors, maybe you should get a copy for your toilet?

I got the "stop the press!!" edition for $39 bucks, best $39 bucks I ever spent, haven't needed to see a doctor since.

Anyone can publish a paper, that doesn't mean it is any good, it is when everyone cites it as having worthwhile content and/or gets republished in well respected journals like American Academy of Family Physicians does it carry any weight.

I actually asked if you had published anything....

Anyways, a lot of the data I have presented to you has come from high impact factor journals. These articles have been cited a number of times. Yet it's still "hocus pocus" and "smoke and mirrors" to you.

Based on other interactions, I don't think he actually reads much that anyone cites here.... just dismisses it as a matter of course!

Cheers,

Bill

Once again, the uber-predictable Not Invented Here response.

Oh, the irony!

A lot of the studies I cited (stuff in high impact factor journals) weren't undertaken Down Under. In fact, several of these studies were conducted in your home land. Furthermore, Prof David White (sleep guru) is an American and he has written many articles discussing the causes (again, note plural use there) of OSA.

So I guess all these studies, and what David White is saying, is just pure BS...because, as you put it, science is lagging behind you. This is very interesting particularly as you haven't published anything.
