White spots inside my nares

Babs... do you use a nasal steroid? Have you recently been on antibiotics? Sometimes those can cause an imbalance in your immune system and allow yeast to grow unchecked.

Do you have postnasal drip? A foul taste in your mouth or notice a bad smell in your nose? Are the white spots wet or dry? Do you ever use nose sprays like Afrin? Are the white spots on top of your nasal membranes or are the membranes themselves white?

Oh thank god my Favorite Nurse checked in... I was thinking of PM-ing you anyway.

I use Flonase every morning. Not on any antibiotics. I have a bit of congestion and a light random cough left over from spending the weekend smoking up a storm on my road trip to visit you. It had nothing to do with YOU, it's just me and road trips and cigarettes.

I poked some more last night, and wonder if these are just sort of normal "nose pores" I'm seeing. I may never have noticed them before. I'm like that.

No foul taste in mouth. No bad smell in nose. Don't know which are my nasal membranes, so I can't say if they are on top. Spots appear dry. Unless nose is wet, then they are wet.

No other symptoms that I can identify. Nasal discharge remains clear and fluid. And it's not any worse than usual, other than slightly elevated from poisoning myself two weeks ago.

I started to use the NeilMed last night, then it was too hot, so I was letting it cool, and got engrossed in a documentary on Earth First and completely forgot, and then it was midnight, and I really thought I out not to do it then.

Will attempt to remember to do it at lunch today. Should be far enough before bedtime, ya' think? I go home for lunch, so it's an easy thing to do.

My wife loves masks she can cram up her nose.
Unless your rolling around in e-coli, theres not much you can pick up from a silicone insert.
The use these on neo-nates. Their safe.

Just dont start plucking your nose hairs out any time soon. I did that once and got an ingrown hair that hurt like hell for 2 weeks once.

It just dawned on me that you wear a mask that goes inside your nose. Are the white spots where the prongs hit? If your tissues are white, it could mean they are getting too much pressure from the prongs. The white might be evidence that the blood supply was cut off in those spots. It doesn't sound like you have a yeast infection, I'd think that would be so obnoxious you would not hesitate to make a doctor appointment... even you who hates docs

How big are the spots?

Btw, Flonase is a steroid, acccording to the link you sent. Makes it more likely to be thrush. It would be very easy to detect from a simple swab, shows up straight away in the lab under the microscope.

From the info on Flonase.

"In clinical studies with fluticasone propionate administered intranasally, the development of
localized infections of the nose and pharynx with Candida albicans has occurred only rarely.
When such an infection develops, it may require treatment with appropriate local therapy and
discontinuation of treatment with FLONASE Nasal Spray. Patients using FLONASE Nasal
Spray over several months or longer should be examined periodically for evidence of Candida
infection or other signs of adverse effects on the nasal mucosa."

My Mom thinks the spots are normal. I don't feel sick. What are the symptoms of Thrush?

I've been taking Flonase for nearly 10 years. I get looked at least annually.

I don't HATE docs, I hate bad docs!

er... did your mom look in your nose? I thought you never listen to your mom... I don't think I want my mom looking up my nose. fI am not real sure what the symptoms of nasal thrush would be but my guess is that it would be sufficiently obnoxious that you would be asking different questions than "what are these white spots in my nose?"

Well, no, she didn't look. She seemed to think from my description it was normal. Getting my mom to look would no doubt NOT change her opinion...

I might ask one of the school nurses to look. I am so lucky to have them. Anytime something looks weird, I ask one of them to look. But it's summer, so they're not here every day.
