Poll: Hose covers

Do you use a hose cover? Or, perhaps you prefer the heated hose? Maybe you like to go au natural and leave your hose naked!

What's your choice, and, if you'd like to tell us, "Why?"

I guess I am a closet naturist! Naked hose for me!

Why I will not buy a heated hose

Post by roster » Mon Mar 12, 2007 12:53 pm

Background: I use a high humidifier setting evaporating nearly the whole container of water, 1400 ml, in eight hours. The computer on the furnace turns it off at night and the room temperature gets down to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. I have no rainout. Air in the mask does not feel cold to me even on the coldest nights. I use a fleece hose cover.

This is why I will not buy a heated hose:
- expensive

- requires an additional electrical outlet

- uses additional electricity

- adds heat to the bed during the warm months!

- does not have an on/off switch!!!???

- additional disadvantage for Hybrid mask users: "oldgearhead: "Rooster - When you get one, don't forget to attach a short (10"-18") inch regular hose and swivel between the heated hose and the Hybrid. The heated hose is stiffer than a regular hose. The "short" hose will reduce the torque applied to the Hybrid's 90 degree elbow. Then cover it all with your hose cover.""

- something else to mess with and additional clutter added to our complicated lives.

I voted for hose cover, because that's what I'm using. My real preference though is the Aussie heated hose. Alas, the mask I've found which works best for me includes an integrated hose with the mask. Every now and again, usually after suffering through a rain-out event, I consider re-applying for lab-rat credentials by melding the Aussie heated hose cover with the Comfort-Curve hose assembly. Haven't done it yet though.

Regards,
Bill

I use the fleece hose cover for the hose to eliminate moisture in the hose. I use the fleece mask covers to eliminate facial marks. My husband has commented that he thinks having the fleece hose cover makes the whole CPAP system looks less clinical and more like a bedroom accessory!

I love my aussie heated hose. However during the summer I might switch to hose cover.

After 4 years I got a fleece hose cover a few weeks ago and love it. I can turn my HH up higher with no rainout and the air is warm(er) in the mask, which is really nice!

No experience with the heated hose (except they seem quite expensive for what you get).

Try the Scented CPAP Mask with Pur-Sleep's CPAP Aromatherapy--CPAP Diffuser and Essential Oils.

No hose cover.

Heated Humidifier that I paid for out of my own pocket, sits wasted, being used as a passover. No heat on.

Never have I had "rain-out", what ever that is.

Foolishly on my new machine that I have coming, I did spend the extra and got the matching humidifier so that it "looks" good. I am so stupid.

I have two heated hoses. I also use 3 fleece covers on the heated hose because I still get droplets of rainout with my Aura (even though my humidifier is only set on 1). I hate being WEIRD. ...

Definitely the fleece hose cover. I actually use two of them on one hose - I like the additional insulation. Have aweful rainout when I don't have the cover on. No heated hose necessary.

I vote with onecoknower-double thickness cover. Even though the sleeping cottage has been down to the fourties-there has never been a significant rainout problem even with humidifier at 5. The only time I wished I had a heated hose was one night when the temp was in the low thirties and the humidity was 8. Woke up in the middle of the night sure that I had frostbite in my nasaopharynx. Wonder what the wind chill factor was? Seriously it did damage the nasal membranes-took about 10-12 days to get back to normal.

Reasons-enough electrical gadgets and not being able to wash/disinfect the heated hose

Been using the Aussie heated hose with heated humidifier for about three years. Suits me very well.

I keep my hose under the covers with me in a heated water bed so I have never had rain out.
I bought a fleece cover so i wouldn't feel the plastic hose touching me.

fleece for me all the way. I have tried many. All about the same. There is a new one from resmed i believe it has a zipper for ease of installation. Probably pricey.

best deal and quality seems to be from http://www.cpapetcetera.com. If polar fleece is good for insulation in extreme outdoor conditions it is good for me.

To answer the question. Fleece in the winter. Naked in the summer.

Fleece makes it a little more heavy but I am going to try it with to use it with the new performance tubing from respironics i found on their site as well.

Going naked so far, but trying to get the misses to make me a fleece cover.

...and yes, I know someone here on the boards makes them for sale, but I'm extremely cheap.
