Universal incompetence has become much more severe in recent years than ever before.
Not true.
Overall, we're in pretty good shape:

The problem is social media. People read one untoward comment and then it's like "Omigod! The sky is falling!!"
Actually, if you read independent reviews of cpap.com, their rating looks to be very good to excellent (Joe undoubtedly has some support documentation, but I'm assuming he wants to go from 4.5-4.7 to as close to 5.0 as he can).
The problem is not social media. Here are some examples that I personally have encountered:
1) I bought eyeglasses frames and lenses from a popular chain store. They don’t do their own lens grinding, so they send the frames and the lens prescription to a lab. It is up to the lab to make the lenses, cut them to insert in the frames, and send the finished pair of glasses back to the store. I was informed that they received my glasses back with a big scratch on one of the lenses. They said it was a very obvious scratch. So how does such a lens get shipped out? But ok, let’s try again. Two weeks later, the store informed me that the package they received back from the lab had the frames and lenses. However, the lenses weren’t in the frames. Rather, there were 2 large uncut lenses in the box. What idiot thought this was ok to ship out? By the way, this is the first social media outlet in which I have posted this. If anyone wants to think the sky is falling, that’s their choice. My intent isn’t to convince anyone anything about the sky.
2) Amazon repeatedly sends used and returned merchandise to people who order it new. I’m one of those people. Reviews talk about more incidents.
3) I live in a community of homes that has a Facebook group. People are constantly posting that they received a package for someone else. Or the opposite: people are constantly posting that the delivery service delivered their package to someone else. That’s a good segue into talking about three of the most incompetent companies this side of the Andromeda Galaxy. Ranking from least worst to most worst, we have UPS, the lesser of the delivery service evils. Deliveries to the wrong addresses, lost packages, broken merchandise. But they’re angels compared to FedEx. I don’t even have to speak about them. Look at all the complaints in recent years. Then there’s the rancid cream of the spoiled crop, the USPN (United States Postal Non-service). If stink could kill, we’d all be dead. I read that in my state, the on-time delivery percentage for first class mail is 82%. That means that for every 10 letters I mail or have mailed to me, about 2 will be late by the USPN’S own standards, or not delivered at all. Appointing Louis DeMoron DeJoy as postmaster buck private didn’t help. Good thing he resigned, but don’t expect any noticeable improvements from any new postmaster buck private. For this reason, I refuse to do the mail-order prescription thing. I don’t need to wonder in what universe my prescriptions were delivered to when I don’t get them.
That chart proves my point. It’s the incompetent people who think everything is just great. Competent people are the ones understanding the problem. I don’t rely on social media to spread the incompetence word, except for this post, as I stated above. Word of mouth is good enough for me, and I hear plenty in my travels: Customer service sucks. Quality is at an all-time low. Contractors hired for home improvement don’t show up or finish jobs, and at the very least, work is shoddy. Have you noticed all the plane crashes ON THE GROUND lately? Do you remember that happening a few years ago? Speaking of which, why are so many people fed up with how the airlines function? Fights breaking out on planes? Wasn’t a thing a few years back. The airlines are making people crazy. How about all the food recalls happening? That happens when someone can’t perform their job properly, either by product inspection or work habits. More and more people are hesitant to rely on people and services that at one time were reliable. All one has to do is listen. Forget social media. Don’t need to hear about rampant and wide-spread incompetence and stupidity through social media.
Oh, and that chart: from the left end to the right end, it went from 74 to 77. Is that what you would call a huge increase? Besides, 77 is a terrible score. I wouldn’t call that reasonably happy. Also, if you notice, the chart is on a downward trend at the right end. Like I said, that chart proves my point.
Also, I wasn’t speaking about CPAP.com in particular, I was speaking generally. Personally, my experience with CPAP.com has been consistently excellent for many years.
