Last Night Was First Night
Re: Last Night Was First Night
Did your doctor say anything about your continued snoring?

Try 10.6 some time before you go to bed. Decide you will give it about 30 minutes or so - and just breathe and relax. Commit yourself only to that, don't even think of using it when you try to sleep.
See what happens after 30 minutes.
An altenative is to go back to APAP, leave your minimum at 10.4, which you're familiar with, but let the machine add pressure when events start happening.
I was thinking about trying Apap again. Where do you think I should set the max?
Is she aware of the medication you take? Did you ask her how they may impact the quality of your sleep?
Yes and I just started a new med. I'm wondering if that's the main issue and things will settle down once I get used to it.
I get the feeling I'm almost there, it's just tough in the meantime. I don't think I'll need different treatment options.I think you're facing a number of issues:
You're not sleeping well - part of that is caused for sure by breathing obstructions, but possibly only part.
You're worrying about it - another cause for not sleeping well
You're taking medications that may impact your sleep quality.
All in all, not an easy situation to be in. But that doesn't mean it's hopeless.

Re: Last Night Was First Night
I"m glad to read that.
Frankly: I have no idea.
It'll have to be trial and error, without letting error discourage you.
Some people can let the machine control the max pressure.
Others need limit it.
Look at your APAP data. What was it set at? How high did it go?

Re: Last Night Was First Night
The highest it's gone is about 11.5.
Also, no. The doctor said nothing about the snoring.

Re: Last Night Was First Night
Last night I changed to APAP settings with pressure of 10.4 - 11.6. I slept better but I did take a sleeping aid. https://sleephq.com/public/754da58a-f18 ... 973fc2d42c
My flow limits were worse but snoring was down. I still, however, do not feel super rested. Considering taking the stronger sleeping pill my doctor prescribed, I'm just worried that will thwart my progress and not truly help me get used to it. I'm also looking at other mask options but being that I'm a pretty heavy mouth breather, there don't seem to be many FFM options that are super comfortable. There are also less options because my wife uses an insulin pump so I can't get one with magnetic clips. If anyone has any ideas on other options, I'd love to hear them. Thanks.
PS I know it's probably annoying that I post in here every day. If you guys need to back off a bit, just let me know.

Let's see what happens with a week of no changes - and you're welcome to post everyday.
Try to relax about the numbers and the flow.

Sounds like a good plan and thank you! My doctor said the only time she worries about flow limit is if someone is sick with a respiratory disease. I thought that was interesting.

I know Im late to the party but OMG you just described me!Miss Emerita wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 11:22 am
One other thing on that subject. Sometimes people wake up during the night and figure they might as well get up to pee since they're awake anyhow. If that's you, try just rolling over and going back to sleep.
I couldn’t do the 20 min ramp tho. if the OP is getting up to pee often and falling right back to sleep, they aren’t getting therapy for 15 min or more.
That would give me that anxiety mentioned because you start dozing and apneas are starting right up.
Five min ramp gives time to get comfy imo.

I've actually managed to get this under control. I only get up once a night now. Just still having trouble staying asleep in general.lynninnj wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 3:27 pmI know Im late to the party but OMG you just described me!Miss Emerita wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 11:22 am

My flow limits are up when Im congested. I found a sweet spot with humidity and hose setting that just like a hot shower a few minutes under pap and Im clear.

Yeah, I've been cutting out any liquids two hours before bed. It is tough with the heat!lynninnj wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 5:26 pm

Re: Last Night Was First Night
So I know I should stick with specific setting for 4 or so days at a time but someone recommended that I turn my minimum down by three and I wanted to try it. Last night I slept better than I ever have on the thing. There was a period of 6 hours straight. That has never happened. However, a new issue arose - large leaks. I didn't even realize it until I pulled up the data this morning. Is this remedied simply by tightening the mask?

Do you actually feel rested? I can’t tell by looking at the data and Im no expert. I also wouldn’t presume to direct you to any particular setting.Iancdub88 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 8:15 amSo I know I should stick with specific setting for 4 or so days at a time but someone recommended that I turn my minimum down by three and I wanted to try it. However, I see dial winging outside of pressure settings that makes me scratch my head.
Personally I keep smartstart ON so I can lie down after potty break and just go back to therapy in two breaths. I leave smartSTOP off. You’re wise to use EPR in my eyes until you get used to machine at the very least but I see some settings where it’s ramp only? why? Autoramp imo will use an algorithm to help but why not just use a short 5 or 10 minute ramp?
Granted I read almost the entire battle in one sitting from start of thread. Maybe you should ask one or two of those who are most experienced for their help and kinda ignore the rest when it comes to settings including me.
Robysue, Pugsy, MissEmerita would be high on my list of contributors. (sorry if i missed anyone)
My original question was how did you feel when you woke and went about your day means far more than a 0 ahi. Not sleeping at all can give you a 0.
On that note, for leaks I use lanolin to create a tacky seal. it feels like petroleum jelly but it’s not. petroleum jelly will damage silicone. I have a tube of lanolin i opened 2 years ago when i started papping and still have some left in the tube. Lansinoh is a nipple cream for nursing babies. Found in breastfeeding aisle in purple tube. $10 well spent after 2 years. you really have to use only a smidge to make it tacky otherwise you might actually lose some of the seal. Must be 100% lanolin. Target. Walmart. Amazon. grocery store.

Re: Last Night Was First Night
Yesterday I felt rested. Today for the most part but I had to take my wife to the airport at 4am so getting back sleep after was tough. I did change it to auto ramp. What is dial winging? And thank you for the tip on the cream!lynninnj wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 5:42 amDo you actually feel rested? I can’t tell by looking at the data and Im no expert.
