He's backkkk. I am trying to get my cpap stuff organized to be somewhat easy for the nursing staff taking care of the old man for 5 days. I bought several used masks, including a Bleep 'halo' setup. Tried it all night last night and my mouth came untaped and I had Large leak of 20% but AHI of 7 and a time in apnea of 5 minutes. I never hear that talked about- is it not significant? I slept 5 hours and feel like dog crap. Gene

The reason I posted [forgot already] was the tip of my nose was ice cold, I think from the exhaust as the taped on halos looked well sealed in the morning.

Well... one month down and it has been better than I expected honestly.
After being released from hospital and then home health visits I am starting to
feel human again. I still have not used my cpap [OKed with sleep doc]- insomnia
apparently is common with open heart recovery and I have it in spades- also restless
leg syndrome. Pain is manageable- two Tylenol in the morning and occasionally one
during the day as needed. I think if I could sleep I would feel great but I guess eventually
it will work itself out. I have very similar feelings with the abundance of blood flow as I
had with my cpap working @ about 10 AHI. I just started Cardiac Rehab and does not take
much to wear me out- which is the function of rehab I guess. I have experienced a lot of
personal indignities and learned a lot. I drove myself to work today [just puter work, but it
feels good] and think [ hope] for another 10 years or so of the semi-good life. Gene

It's very good to hear that your surgery is done and was successful. All the best to you as you work through rehab, and here's hoping you can get back on CPAP before too long and resolve the sleep problems.

An interesting sidenote- my sweetie sez I no longer have the audible apnias [gasping for air, etc] that I have had for years. She often reads for periods in the night so is very familiar with my breathing patterns.

Hello sleepy people- long time no see, I have tried the cpap for weeks and got down to around 5AHI- as good as I have ever scored and have been off of it for several weeks, I can detect no difference [ early days I had really good days sprinkled with not so good and bad days] I found a GP [mine retired and I have been avoiding talking to doctors as I have been semi-depressed] and I think I scored. Nice woman in her 30s I would guess, first thing I asked her was how much she knows about sleep apnea... and she is quite knowledgeable, she interned and roomed with a person whose specialty was SA. She went thru my whole last year and a half in detail and seemed actually interested and let me answer her questions in detail. She suggested another sleep study, which I have been thinking for quite a while. I envisioned having to have my faux sleep professionals recommend it and did not see that going well. I also had an appointment with my cardiology peeps and got a youngish PA man, who admitted to knowing nothing about SApnea and seemed very comfortable with it [not knowing], he was OK tho, listened to my woes of sleepiness, tiredness, often scrambled mental state so I asked if they ever do post surgery retesting- he agreed and scheduled a Echo-cardiogram last Friday. which was posted on my portal later Friday after the proper person evaluated my performance- it is posted below for who every might want to be bored. The interesting thing to me was the borderline EF of 50-55 and the comparison to some of my earlier echos. The surgery was January 31st as a guideline. Someone [not my PA] called and said to stop taking one med which was affecting my heart rate. I assume I will get more info on monday- both of the last two echos required contrast injections and it still sounds like the pictures were sub-optimal. Maybe I will get a camera inserted in my artery to look inside my heart or MRI? I am doing this mini-novella mostly to organize my thoughts... again thanks for looking if you have gotten this far. I actually do not feel terrible, go to 'work' everyday and enjoy myself most days. I just know I felt a lot better for the 76 years before this nighthorse.

It's good to hear you're back on CPAP and now have some good doctors to work with. With luck, you'll be able to get that AHI down even farther, to 2 or less.

My husband will be getting eye surgery in a month and had a long appointment with the surgeon recently. I asked how he liked her and he said she seemed smart and attentive but looked to be about 14 years old.
