M series vs Tank

Post by gregnga » Wed Jan 17, 2007 3:46 pm

I am thinking of purchasing a Remstar Auto C-Flex but waffling between purchasing the M series one and the standard, predecessor to the M series (aka tank) . I am concerned about the M series model being too noisy. It seems I have read that in some of the posts here.

I am pretty well convinced that I will get the Auto C-Flex, it's just a matter of M or non M. I am not going to be using the insurance company, but will pay for it myself.

Can someone sway me one way or the other

Thanks

I can't speak for the tank, but neither my wife nor I think the M Series Auto is noisy, much less too noisy.

I prefer tried and true. I try never to buy brand new technology. I just received a backup machine last night UPS from Cpap.com. I chose another tank. (My other one is 9 months old and very quiet).

I don't think the size and weight difference M and non M (as compared on the product description) is that great.

I would have liked the M's ability to give data on the LED, however, I was not willing to see if the tank leakage issues have been fixed yet and other say that it is harder to fill. I have not used an M, just read others' pros and cons here and decided I would stay with old faithful for now. And I am quite happy with it.

One problem the "Tank" causes, you have to carry around that dirty money you save on it. Jim

I have an M series and it's not loud at all. In fact, my fiance was disappointed that it was so quiet. He likes white noise.

I haven't had any leak problem so far - but I did set the unit on a little stand by my bed between the bed and nightstand and inside of a low rubbermaid tub just in case. I read somewhere that the leak problem was coming from a swivel connector?

I used a "tank" during my week trial of an auto and bought an M Series. I really like the M Series since its so small and the interface its nicer. I'd recommend the M Series.

M vs Tank

Post by fujiinator » Wed Jan 17, 2007 7:58 pm

I am using an M plus and I like the portability. I am on a low pressure so the noise is not a problem. I like the water tank design on the M series. From what was discussed here earlier it was a injection mold issue that was supposed to have been fixed. The weight is the same really between the two. The transformer that is between the cords is a littler too large, but I still like it for its design and features. I am going to get a Auto M series as my main machine in the future. It really is personal preference. If you can maybe have the DME if you have one fire up a M series and a older Auto to see what the noise is like.

I really doubt that you'd be disappointed with either one. It's just that for many of us that started out with the "classic" (tank), we got attached to and comfortable with it and what it's done for us. Also, everything is out in the open.....like filling the humidifier, removing/changing the filters and the display buttons. As a unit, it's all built in, whereas the "M Series" has a separate "brick" for a power supply/voltage converter.

Best wishes on your decision.

I rented a straight CPAP machine for awhile and it was way noisier than my M Series BiPAP Auto. Certain masks are noisier than others, are they not?

I believe the M Series Auto cpap with cflex has the latest algorithms which the tank auto cpap has the older technology. If you go to the respironics web site and compare features between the M series auto cpap and the tank Auto cpap you should see some difference. I don't have the M series as yet, though I have read much on the subject.
good luck

IMO, there really is no comparision - go with the M model.

The only way the weights are comparable is with the M series humidifier included. During the summer months, I stow it, and never take it along when traveling.

I think the M series might be a smidgen noisier, though.

As for the water tank, there is no comparison - I think the M series is much easier to fill, and there have been no leakage issues at all.

You need to take the M series home and have a listen...at your DME you probably will not be able to tell how loud it is. That's what happened to me. At my DME it was a little louder than mine then when I took it home on a Friday and just trying it and OMG, it was freaken loud. It went back on Monday. My DME told me ahead of time that I won't like it because it IS louder than it's predecessor. YMMV...you may just get a quiet one, but the odds are slim that you will.

BTW, the M with the built-in humidifier can and has leaked...something that has been posted here before.

I was renting the tank and I was able to compare the two side by side [subjectively].

As my hearing is still excellent, I noticed the difference big time. If one hearing is not good, is not bothered by noise, or is a heavy sleeper then the noise from the M series shouldnt be an issue...in fact, you'll probably say it's quiet.

the M

Post by Catnapper » Sun Jan 21, 2007 4:13 pm

Maybe I was one of the lucky ones, but my M is very quiet. The humidifier leak has been fixed. It only leaked for me at pressures above 13 or 14.
Before this, I had an auto by the other R company. It was much louder than my M machine.

Seems like there is loyalty for both of the machines. I have never tried the tank, but I bet it is great, too. If it is quieter than the M, it must be really nice.
