i believe that datq1 is trying to make a subtle point here with "rantings of malcontents".

malcontent definitions-

https://www.google.com/search?q=malcont ... e&ie=UTF-8

i see no evidence of regulars on the forum of being either "rebellious" or "making trouble".

and i don't believe i see "rantings" from any of the regulars either.

but apparently the op does. and with that heavy burden on his shoulders, i don't quite understand why he is still about.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

malcontents gotta stir the pot, that's the only reason I can think of for that particular troll still troubling people here.

What are the qualifications for contributors on this forum to be dispensing advice or counsel to users?
Actually there are quite a few of us medical professionals on the forum. One of the things about medical profession is that you can learn quite a bit from patient's experience. They can tell you what works and what doesn't. So the better ones keep there ears open and continually learn from the patients they are treating as they are are living it and are the specialists. If you want a forum run by specialists in sleep apnea it will never happen. They will want to be reinbursed for their time. If your car doesn't work and you take it to a mechanic and ask him to diagnose the problem and the repairs needed for free, you will never find a mechanic.

And yes I have worked in the medical field for 35 years but have learned more here from "common" folks than from some of the lectures I have attended. Off the soap box now.

“Subtle” is as subtle does…

I had a boss once who would ask questions, just to answer it himself and show us how smart he was even though he did not have a PhD in our field. He actually told me once “See. I guess that PhD isn’t doing you much good if you don’t know that.” Hater’s gotta hate.

As my partner of 45 years says if she really wants to get me. “Hey Dr Smarty-pants. Take out the trash and shut-up.”

I do both…

I have worked with many PHD level people over the years. Most of them never mentioned their education level. You only found out if you asked them. The majority were quite intelligent but were quite capable of expressing their thoughts in a way that was readily understood. I remember one in particular I worked with while in Texas talked like a good ole boy from south Louisiana. Turned out he had a PHD in aeronautical engineering from MIT.

Hardly. In my field, possibly. My point was that it doesn’t matter what education one has since it only applies to a specific area and the more you study a given field the less you may actually know about the implementation of it.

I learn more from the folks on this forum than from any sleep professional I have met so far. Mainly because it is likely largely theory to the pros, but y’all have lived it for years and are thankfully glad to share with others. Plus those with real world experience are way more fun than those that theorize.

I am a physician though not a specialist in sleep medicine in any way. I am here as a patient. I have been on CPAP therapy since February 2014. My original (pre-Medicare) DME had a pretty good group of RN sleep specialists that were helpful in the beginning in terms of finding the right mask etc. My sleep physician is a colleague for years, but doesn't have the practical knowledge that many here on this board have been able to provide.

In fact, I have been able to tell the physician and his N.P.s many of the tricks that I have learned on this board. I don't always agree with some of the criticism leveled at the medical infrastructure, but much of it is justified frustration.

College dropout here.
My doctor signed up with some health portal outfit;
which is probably why I had to wait 5 months between finding a lump
and getting a biopsy--luckily, still in time to save my lovely green hide.
The rose-colored glasses were tossed into the dumpster.
