I gave up on insurance early on in my treatment. I am fortunate enough to have an FSA account and some other disposable income so I can make a choice while Philips comes up with their plan and executes on that plan. I'm not in a hurry to get my PRS1 machines fixed - others in greater need of this fix can go ahead of me.

The hazard with the machines is identified and can be repaired, theoretically eliminating future risk. The issue of what harm may have been caused already is a completely separate issue. It can only be dealt with if there's evidence of harm, and perhaps a jury could be persuaded of that. That part of the whole situation will take years and years to play out if it plays out at all.

around 7 minutes into the video is the important info

on the Phillips System One...the air does not pass through or over the sound dampening foam. The air intake is completely isolated from the foam. So WTF?

Please watch the video yourself and take a good look when the machine is apart, and especially when it is put back together...you will see what I am talking about.

The air input clearly goes over foam.

Even just peering into the intake for my System 1 with a flashlight and looking to the right I can see the foam the air travels over.

I have registered my machine at the Philips website and started using my backup machine the Apex Auto. Does anyone know what is next?

35 pages of this thread has been interesting. But we are no closer to a resolution.

Philips sold us a medically harmful product - so give me my money back so I can go buy another cpap machine. Or as soon as we registered for the recall with Philips, they should have been mailing us a replacement machine. It's their fault - not the DME or cpap retailer - it's Philips' fault. Where ever you purchase your machine, that re-seller should replace it and send the invoice to Philips.

People on this board are acting too calm about this. Given that people have already reported health issues (as noted on the Philips website), there has to be a class action lawsuit forming regardless of what Phillips does for its consumers.

No one should be waiting weeks or months for a resolution to a medical recall. Forget the word "voluntary" - we have been specifically told not to use the machine anymore.

All I have is what my DME has told me Phillips told them--for what it's worth (maybe not much). They don't have any idea yet when their plan will be approved by regulators, or when they'll start, but if you have a Dreamstation 1 CPAP, it will be replaced with a Dreamstation 2 CPAP.

They haven't said anything about the Bilevel machines, but unless they have some as yet announced plans to introduce the Bilevel version of the Dreamstation 2, it would seem their only option will be to repair the Dreamstation 1 units. Of course, the big question in that case will be if you get your own unit back or somebody else's. I wouldn't be too happy if I sent in my 6 month old unit and got back one somebody had been using for 4 years.

Respironics should be forced to immediately buy their defective machines back,
enabling their VICTIMS to buy safe machines from whoever can provide them.
No one should be forced to accept the new BRICKS from Respironics."

More bungling from Philips. The difficulty of entering the serial number properly has been mentioned. Now, I learn if you enter it incorrectly, the wrong message comes back leading some people to think their machine hasn't been affected.

Yep...I already know of this happening to someone....the humidifier serial number was entered and of course it came back not affected but to be sure I ask the person to double check and be extra careful to not make a typo....and it came back affected.
I knew the model that person had...I knew it had to be affected and thus I figured some sort of error.

Happened to 2 people that I know of so far...one did the humidifier serial number and someone else made a typo in the serial number.
Gotta be extra careful and not make typos.. especially difficult to distinguish between the number 0 and the letter O for some people.

And we all know that the print is intentionally small and ambiguous
on most consumer goods--especially MEDICAL.
(There oughta be a law.)

With my PRS1 560P machines the folder name(s) on the card match the serial number(s) of the machine(s) the data was written from.

Where X:\ below is the drive letter of your SD card - first character is Alpha, then 8 numbers, then four Alpha-Numeric characters something like this:

X:\P-Series\P12345678ABCD
