Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
Well... this is all very interesting. I called United Health and had a chat and asked if they knew about this recall. What was their position and what or how would they be involved. Basically they told me they were not involved, but if I wanted they would call Phillips and put them on the line/ phone with me. Phillips (A guy named John) acknowledged my DS machine was registered and is in the recall system. They gave me a bunch of gobbeldegy gook and said to talk to my physician. They could not give me any health advice, that they only manufacture the machines. They are waiting for FDA or whoever to give them further authorization. For what, I don't know. They will notify us later...... I'm glad I ordered a new ResMed 10.

Maybe their lawyers know what they are doing, but I thought this was a big mistake:
That is giving health advice. For patients using BiLevel PAP and CPAP devices:
Discontinue use of your device ...
https://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/ ... src-update
It is dangerous advice in some cases.
Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
One of the documents that I saw, maybe one they gave to health professional's. They were going to triage replacements and repairs. I asked the guy how Phillips could do that if they didn't give health advice or knew what the health condition was of all the patients they were going to triage. No, it isn't. I have a heated DS1 hose and it will not work with my DS2--the hose is too large to fit on the hose coupling on the DS2.

CPAP manufacturers want to get in on the killings.
... the study (Published in BMJ), from doctors at Johns Hopkins, suggests medical errors ... the third leading cause of death in the United States. That would place medical errors right behind heart disease and cancer.

I think I know the answer to this question...but why did you request a Chest x-ray?
What are you hoping to find out or rule out from a chest x-ray?

For people here who purchased this filter. Have you seen any foam bits captured in the filter?

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
I don't why that question would be asked!
A chest x-ray shows whether there is lung tissue scarring, called fibrosis, or other things. Why wouldn't I get one?
I'll be 83 in 2 months. Danged if I want to go because of using a bipap! And I'm not going without a fight!
I have hearing aids, eye surgery (for cateracts), three operations on my prostate, double hernia surgery, viral encephalitis, gum surgery and a host of teeth problems, and a host of other things.
But, I'm still riding my bicycle on the greenways. I am thinking of getting an electric bike (which are now allowed in Virginia on the greenways.
I've always been active and I want to stay fit. So, why, again, would you ask that question?

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
Here is what happens if your Dreamstation is registered for the recall on the provided link:
Please notate your confirmation number: xxxxxxxxxx (my s/n was here)
What to expect next:
We regret that it may take some time to replace your device. The repair process for existing devices requires regulatory approval in your country, which we are working toward obtaining as quickly as possible. We will begin the repair/replacement process immediately upon that approval.
When the repair/replace process commences, we will prioritize the devices that support patients with more advanced clinical needs. We understand the impact of this issue on your therapy and we sincerely apologize for this disruption. It is our absolute number one priority to replace affected devices as quickly as possible.

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
I just spoke with my DME and they have no idea how the Dreamstation 1 issue will be resolved. But they do have 5 Dreamstation 2's in stock (I asked, they didn't even mention it). I bought one of them and will pick it up tomorrow morning. It comes with a heated hose since the connection is different from the Dreamstation 1. The mask connection is the same.
I don't want to give up my CPAP while Respironics and the government decide what is going to happen. My Dreamstation 1 is 3 1/2 years old and it will go on a box until all of this is sorted out and after it is either repaired or replaced it will make a great spare.
I will submit a claim to Medicare and if they pay it fine, if they don't that is ok too. I'm going to sit back and watch the fight over all of this from the sidelines.

You're right. I'll keep it.
As you can see, I'm really #^%#%&^& off.
I haven't heard from my chest x-ray yet. I'm hoping that no news is good news.
