I have my eye on the M-Series APAP.
Can you get basic info from the user interface without the Software?
Do most insurance companies pay for the software?

Yes, you can get basic AHI and leak info, and (I think) snore data, from the display window without needing software on at least some of the "M" series Respironics machine, like the:
Respironics Pro "M" Series (straight cpap)
Respironics Auto "M" Series (autopap)
I agree with cflame1 that insurance companies usually won't pay for software. There's no billing code for software, as far as I know. That said, I've read of at least one person posting on the message board who said that when he/she submitted the bill to his insurance company for reimbursement for a package he bought from cpap.com (machine, humidifier, software) the insurance company reimbursed 70 or 80% of the total cost which included the software and card reader. That was probably an oversight on the part of the insurance company, however.

Thanks, jcranmer. I wasn't sure about "snore" data showing up or not. Appreciate the clarification.

Thanks,
I guess I should ask is it really worth the extra $200 for the S/W?
Does anyone have an M series without S/W and think they get enough info. I don't need a doctorates thesis, just want to see if I need to adjust it.
I think my current snore meter is probably good enough. Last weekend she was sleeping on the floor.
Again, Thanks,

I was able to get my FSA provider to pay for the software and reader. However, I had to appeal and then only got it because the person I was dealing with had family members who were on CPAP and understood how it could help. This person, personally took my appeal to her supervisor(s) and ended up lobbying for me to get reimbursed. I think I was lucky. Either way, the software is worth the money.

Thanks,
I think I'll just forgo the S/W. I don't see the savings for bundling. In fact it's about $10 cheaper if I buy them separately on cpap.com? I'll see how it goes.
I like to make my life less complex rather than more complex. All I need is more software to deal with. If I could find a procedure for less than $2000, I would prefer that.

software on M-series
I've got the M-series Auto, and I get an information line of "vibratory snores index" in the software. The charts show when I've been snoring, too.
I really liked having the software when the time came for my first follow-up visit with the sleep doctor. He was impressed that I could show him my compliance data and all the other data, and had a clue what it meant (unlike many of his patients, apparently). I can't wait to hand him the printout in March...
