I have read that the sense of smell becomes muted or non-existent during an infection.
But what odors should I test myself on?
Chocolate?
Peanut butter?
Vicks?

I heard that Strawberries Arnaud are one of the best indicators of lost smell in COVID-19 cases.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 9:54 pmI have read that the sense of smell becomes muted or non-existent during an infection.

Sounds like an excellent choice--now to run it by Medicare . . .

"So much of the focus right now still is how many people are getting sick and how many people are dying,” Dr. Chen said — which is natural considering the country remains in a protracted first wave of infections, including 11 straight days with 1,000-plus fatalities. “But it’s not just black and white, about getting better or dying,” he said. “There’s a whole gray spectrum of illness that can happen after COVID-19 that we haven’t even fully learned about yet.”

Excited here! I was accepted in the Pfizer mRNA Phase 3 vaccine trial. I'll get my first shot Wednesday. Keeping my fingers crossed that they give me the vaccine and not the placebo!

That's not a meme ... it's a factual statement that sums up how a lot of people feel (including me). It can only be considered political if one's bias makes it so.
Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.

Thats not political. Its the truth. I'm exhausted. And both sides the extremes are playing with fire. IMO. I'm pretty freaked out about the whole school thing too. Students need to be in school to learn especially the younger ones. Computers don't do much good if you don't read. At the same time its gonna cause mass spread events. We are pretty much screwed no matter what we do and politicians, once again, on both sides are playing games and waring about the elections. There are no adults in the room!

Following up, while there was no pain during the injection, some hours afterward, the area around the injection site became very sore for 36 hours. Since it is a double-blind study, the clinic did not know whether they were giving me the vaccine or a placebo. My GP said this is a 99% certain indication that they injected the vaccine. A saline solution injection would not have caused this type of reaction. Second shot of a two-dose trial is in three weeks.Setj wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 6:12 pmExcited here! Such an obvious distinction between the effects of the real vaccine and the placebo (99%) would make that study not-so-blind... Could it be that they made the placebo a little more sophisticated than simple saline solution? Like, maybe some histamine-based placebo?Setj wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 9:01 amFollowing up, while there was no pain during the injection, some hours afterward, the area around the injection site became very sore for 36 hours. Bad idea. It would no longer be a placebo. The researchers would be comparing the side effects of the vaccine to the side effects of a histamine injection. Ridiculous.

Really? Do you have any specific knowledge referring to this trial, or are you saying that a placebo may only contain an inert substance in any placebo-controlled trial?ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 6:32 amBad idea. In all clinical trials the placebo may only contain inert substances, the way I understand it.McSleepy wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 9:08 pmReally?
