Low air flow (Auto AirSense 10)

Post by gvc » Wed May 20, 2020 2:14 pm

Hi everyone, I am new in this world and I apologize in advance, because English is not my native language ...
Just last night I spent my first night connected to the cpap. After doing a lot of research, I decided to buy the Resmed Airsense 10 autoset, since the doctor prescribed a pressure between 4 and 20, with the automatic version, I would allow you to start using it immediately.
Also, I opted for a phillips dreamwear nasal mask, which seemed the most comfortable because I don't breathe through my mouth.
I tried the machine with automatic ramp, then without ramp, I did not feel any substantial difference with the cpap .. I only had a bad night because of the discomfort. But I didn´t feel more pressure of air when I stopped breathing on my mask (which was without a leak, according to the qualification of the airsense today). I don't quite understand if this is going to be adjusted over time? the pressure never seemed to rise above 4. Even at night I woke up from an apnea, and the machine was still running at pressure at 4.

Thank you very much, I hope I can get used to it soon :D .

With a minimum pressure of 4 the ramp is useless..it starts at 4 . When you turn on the machine, the pressure setting will show on the screen. If the pressure seems too low when you are wearing the mask, you may need to increase the minimum pressure a bit. Consider downloading the Oscar software and posting a few charts...this will give a better idea what is happening during the night. It will take several nights to see if there is a pattern. The Oscar site is in my signature area.

Thank you for your reply.
Do you know how can I increase the minimum pressure? I tried to find it in the manual, but I didn´t find it. I supposed how it is an automatic machine, the minimum and maximum values cannot be altered or can I? I stop the ramp mode, but still start in level 4.

You need the clinical manual.
A pdf can be downloaded free from another website.
Others will be along with the link.

Thanks! Do you think it's a good option to rise this number ? From 4 to 5 or 6? or should I wait to get some more information in OSCAR reports
It's my first time using it, but I felt that there was very little air that expelled.

Raise your minimum pressure to 6 and leave it for a few days.

Hello to all forum members.
I've been using autocpap for just over 2 months, and I'm getting quite a few good results in terms of AHI. When I did the polysomnography, I had an AHI of 15.5 and now I am usually in ranges between 1.5 -2.5.
I still cannot get 100% accustomed to using the mask and I wake up several times at night to correct the position of the mask as it moves. Today I'm ussing preassures between 7 to 12, and most part of my apneas are central apneas.
My doctor has indicated that we will soon see if he modifies the auto cpap mode to a Cpap mode, I imagine with a stable pressure.

What would be the benefit of that?

Greetings and thank you very much,

GVC

It may, or may not. For my wife, it made quite a difference. Prior to the change, her flow restrictions were all over the place. Some nights, 0.1 and then the next night 0.5 or higher. Looking at her charts, she appears to be resting better without the pressure changes. Her pressure used to vary any where from 16 to 22 or 23 cm during the night. Now, it stays steady at 20 cm.

For some people using a fixed cpap pressure works out well but for some people it's not such a good idea.
My OSA is worse in REM. I sometimes need 6 to 8 cm more pressure during REM only. REM makes up 20% of my night.
So if I was to use fixed cpap and deal with the REM stuff...I would need around 15 cm all night long. It's doable but not much fun.
So I use the adjustable pressure mode and spend about 80% of the night around 8 or 9 cm and 20% of the night up around 15 cm....that's a lot more comfortable.

Same thing could be said for supine sleeping. Some people need more pressure when on their back but maybe they don't spend much time on their back.

So if your pressure never varies much for any reason then a fixed setting will probably work out just fine but if you are like a lot of people who find that pressure needs can vary widely....using a fixed pressure may not work out so great.

Make use of available software to see what your pressures are wanting to do.
