I take 2000iu of d3 and 1000mg of vitamin c in the morning now. Multi's bother my stomach for whatever reason, even with food. I decided to take an amount somewhere in the middle so i'm not megadosing, although I believe with Vitamin C it's practically harmless in huge quantities...as far as I know you just pee the excess out.

a first resort just because staff is afraid to try anything else.
My understanding is that at this point in the pandemic, most of what passes for protocols in this country do not involve rushing to invasive ventilation anymore for COVID-19 unless clinicians see little to no alternative. It isn't the intubation itself but the length of time being ventilated, it seems, that appears to be so damaging, as I understand it. And the length of time necessary is often not known for a particular patient ahead of time. The progression and complications are mysteriously unique from one patient to another. So docs and patients are both mostly flying blind over unknown terrain without instruments at this point when it comes to decision-making strategies related to this virus.
Aaron B. Holley, MD wrote:The limitations are real . . . Be suspicious of anyone who emphatically supports a particular therapy or treatment modality at this point. Their words may be amplified in the echo chamber created by the therapeutic void, but you can still tune them out.--https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/929987
I hope so, but I was recently in the "suspected covid-19" area of the hospital, for pneumonia, slight fever, muscle aches, non-icu, and they said I could not use my bi-level machine due to aerosolization although I didn't demand to speak to the doctor about it, and instead just used a nasal cannula for 2 days.

COVID-19 Infectious Dose

Post by ChicagoGranny » Tue May 12, 2020 10:32 am

Interesting article on "infectious dose". It might relieve some anxiety about contracting the virus in certain situations. I have to say "might" because I was at the grocery store today, and an unmasked woman let out a big sneeze. I didn't see which way she was facing. Gramps and I checked out in a big hurry.

While I consider that treatment of the subject highly accurate in its technical theoretical aspects as far as being useful understanding/teaching of certain aspects or infectious transmission through the air in general, I consider its usefulness quite low as far as practical application when it comes to this particular virus in real-world situations. Not enough is yet known about this particular virus, and one has no way of judging, for example, air circulation turnover and air direction in most indoor locations anyway.

Much of one's social interaction is not made up solely of walking past others but walking with others in the same direction in a constant stream of exposure as others breathe, talk, laugh, clear their throats, etc--not to mention the risks standing still as air moves toward one and around one. High-risk vs. low-risk is a false form of comfort when the outcome is death. "Don't worry about THIS game of Russian roulette, this new 9-chamber revolver is MUCH less risky than the old six-shooters!"

Running and cycling in urban settings involve runners and cyclists moving as a pack in one another's streams, which hold droplets aloft for extended periods of time.

Until verified research is available for the infection behavior of this particular virus, pause is the only meaningful option, unless useful treatments and prophylactic measures become widely available to all in the prevention of senseless deaths. Unfortunately, if one is in the category of high risk of death from this virus, grocery shopping in person remains a problematic concept both for touching contaminated surfaces AND for respiratory-related transmission, despite those technical aspects of time of exposure plus dose of pathogen, in theory, as a model, in my opinion.

The in-home transmissions proves the dangers of simple grocery shopping instead of presenting an argument suggesting otherwise, I believe. The person in the family doing the shopping is passing it on to those who are not.

Classroom understanding is great. But real-world application of something built on so many unproved assumptions for this virus in varying locations and circumstances is quite another. I would expect more humility and verbal qualification from most research scientists on this subject at this time.

Hey, just my personal reaction, if you were expecting that sort of thing in response.

"Though the church has capacity for 200 people, fewer than 50 were at the event - well within the public health rules of the time.

Despite that, 24 of the 41 people at the party ended up infected. Two of them died."

https://theness.com/neurologicablog/ind ... asks-work/
This was in mid-March, and they were following their local social distancing orders. At the time we didn't yet have as clear of a picture of how much of the spread was from presymptomatic carriers. We've now seen clusters in several groups that have flouted social distancing orders, knowing full well that something like this can happen.

Some states are in the process of reopening. Please consider carefully what risks are appropriate to take for yourself and for the health of any people you're in contact with regularly. Remember, you adorable little disease vector, it's not just about you.

There is no happiness, no gleeful "I told you so" in watching people learn this lesson again and again and again. It's crap that people congregated for a celebration and two of them died. It's crap that most of us won't see our friends for a party for a good long time. And it's even worse that some people will knowingly take their chances and subsequently become part of the fatality statistics.

This is a nightmare.

I feel that perceived claustrophobia along with politics is feeding into dangerous behavior.
I simply cannot fathom the VIOLENCE!
It is getting SCARY out there.

BioAegis says its ‘inflammation regulator’ is best weapon to fight Covid-19

BioAegis Therapeutics believes that its lead product, recombinant human plasma gelsolin therapy (rhu-pGSN), is a viable therapeutic option for patients suffering from severe lung injury due to Covid-19.

The private clinical stage company is awaiting FDA approval to accelerate their clinical trial of plasma gelsolin therapy on Covid-19 patients.

BioAegis discovered plasma gelsolin — an abundant, naturally occurring circulating protein found in the human body’s immune system — nearly two decades ago.
The company has built a portfolio of therapies around this unique anti-inflammatory to treat a wide range of conditions, including influenza, pneumonia, arthritis, Alzheimer’s, lupus, inflammatory bowel disease and multiple sclerosis.

... “We looked at the gene transmission that occurs when you give gelsolin to the animals that have flu, and it shows how it down-regulates genes for the kinds of mediators that cause a cytokine storm, which is exactly what happens in Covid -19, and it up-regulates genes that lead to healing,” Levinson says. Additionally, it’s been shown to protect the lungs from damage.

Mere social distancing is only a measure to make sure everyone doesn't get sick and die at the same time, so that people don't die of OTHER issues during a medical system collapse. With social-distancing alone, the same number of people die from the virus, just over a longer period of time. Transmission continues. We need to remember that. The social distancing while otherwise continuing as usual isn't really about our individually protecting people from the virus as such, or in any way lowering the total number of deaths, despite the way politicians and the media are mixing that up so badly right now.

Lock down and sheltering in place for social avoidance is another matter completely for us as individuals. Our being responsible in not collapsing the medical system has NOTHING to do with our also, in addition, being responsible in protecting the individuals we love around us who are vulnerable to death from the virus. Even the governor appears to forget that when he seems to mix the two considerations into one in the same discussion in public discourse. It is stupid to feel good about not overwhelming the morticians because we were all good citizens in spacing out our deaths over a reasonable period of time. Do what needs to be done to prevent deaths, not just space them out over time. After all, if you shoot one person a day for five days, you can't call that a victory just because you didn't shoot all five on the same day. Slowing rate of death is NOT saving lives.

I have personally seen people get downright NASTY when asked to use a mask.
Do you choose to accept the "official" definition of "fake news"?
Or do you temper your thoughts with the knowledge that media is hideously COMPETITIVE,
and somewhat unreliable/irresponsible at best?
This has been the case for over a hundred years--not just lately.
Remember "yellow journalism"? Oh, yes, that was YESTERDAY.

The news bombarded us so much with "flatten the curve" without people stopping to think about the fact that it just spreads the infections out, not the total deaths.

It still does help prevent hospitals from having to make triage decisions, having non critical care docs being brought in to do things they aren't qualified for, etc., which in theory could save lives.

I decided early on to just do whatever I felt was necessary to protect myself. You can't rely on the CDC when for months they said masks were a waste of time lol.

i think that's a bit unfair. isn't the cdc allowed to learn more about the virus and make a different decision based on the new information they glean?

afaik, that's how science is supposed to work, isn't it?
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.
