can't find distilled water? What can I do?

ResMed has clarified that using Distilled Water is a cleaning convenience and not a health concern.

Filtration can only remove "contaniments" for safe, pleasant drinking water.
It disturbs me that a filter claims to produce "distilled" water, as the definition of distillation
is to remove solids by precipitating them by phase change>> liquid to gas, and back to liquid.
This is impossible with a filter...

Yeah, my first thoughts were along those lines when I saw those product links. If that's not a case for false advertising, I don't know what is.

I've used tap water where there was no other option. I prefer to use distilled. When my local stores were out of distilled, I made my own using an Instant Pot - just had to get some vinyl tubing. It wasn't as efficient as the instructions made it out to be, but I got enough for five days use, which got me through until I could buy distilled.

Local stores were limiting quantities of items subject to panic buying. Gallon bottles of water, of whatever kind, were limited to two each. From what I saw at the store, some people would grab two gallons of the regular water, plus two of the distilled water. This in an area where good municipal water is the norm.

No I did not, as I have know how Stills work since grade school, and no I've never made Moonshine. The best way to distill Boil A liquid in a closed container, take vapor out of the top of that container into a condensing coil, cooling the coil will speed up the output, run the coil output into the desired clean container.

The result is the distilled product. I have made Wine, I don't usually drink mixed drinks, but I have found I could learn, We had XMAS party XMAS 1966, IN Nam, at the party we had 20 cases of Beer, a drum filled with 10 gallons of Medical Grade Alcohol (190 Proof), Orange 10 Gal, and added ice.

It was the only time in my 75 years I have been Drunk once, one of my Buddies andI had decided we had had our limit and walked back to our tent, but half way back both of us had our leggs quit, I crawled the last block to the tent, we found my buddy in a ditch the next morning still sleeping.

It turns out, we missed the end of the party to end all parties. I will stop here, but I will admit a lot of gunfire was involved. No people or Animals were harmed in this party, except for lots of Chickens and one Pig! Jiim

Distilling kept my father in law alive during the war.
As a teenager, he was "recruited" from Ukraine for slave labor in a coal mine.
When the mine was bombed by the Allies, he was out on the street.
He took to making good Ukie vodka, and the German military supplied him with food,

Guess what? The process you just described is very much analogous to how this stovetop process works in the Instructables tutorial. The ice is used to cool the vapor in the same way your condensing coil works in a conventional distiller. It doesn't get added to the condensed "distilled" water when it melts. It really is an ingenious little trick and gets the job done.

Another alternative to this, same concept but overall a better one and easier to manage, is to use a coffee pot instead of the glass bowl. This tip says to put a fire brick inside the water pot; set the coffee pot on top of the fire brick (clearly to separate the coffee pot from the heat source... good idea!); then cover with the larger pot's lid. Use ice trays on top of the lid to accelerate the condensation.

The coffee pot will be a lot easier to pour from when done vs a bowl, and the fire brick use is an important part so you don't re-boil the distilled water needlessly. It also gives the coffee pot a resting point so it doesn't sink. You probably should be mindful of what the coffee pot is made of. If it has plastic handles, it might not be the best option to put inside boiling water. Maybe a large Pyrex measuring cup would be a better choice.

Not quite I did see part of it last week, seeing it had nothing better than I already new I moved on to other utubes.

And no, I only put trash in my wastecan, and once in I don't dig them out for posting, and while I have been around the world, I am nit a world traveler. Jim
