CPAP tip of the day:
Get a home distiller. The time you save not having to descale your CPAP humidifier, you can put towards descaling your distiller.
Distilled water tastes flat. It also makes poor quality coffee and tea.

The bullfrog considers the distiller "his" tool/toy, and willingly cleans it as needed.
If I used tap water, I would be cleaning my OWN tank.
This works for me.

Make sure you boil your water a few min. Weird pathogens can live in tap water and /or well water. Don' take a chance, especially now..

Boiling the water will just make the minerals in the water denser and increase mineral build up in the water chamber.
What do you do about taking a shower where you might inhale some water droplets? More chance of inhaling pathogens from that than what the air might pick up from using the humidifier with water in it.

That is *completely* unnecessary, as well as counterproductive.

In our area plenty of distilled water is available in the stores — 80 cents a gallon — no limit as far as I know

It's hit or miss in my area. Small rural town with only one store that ever really carries distilled water anyway.
I had to do tap water for a few days as all bottled water of any kind was unavailable...bare shelves. Then I happened to be in the store when they were restocking the water shelves and I picked up a couple of gallons of distilled which should last me a couple of months.
It wasn't long before those shelves were bare again though.
I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

Odd's are the fools are buying it up thinking it is drinking water. Jim

Pretty sure I saw that happen.

Use your drinking water...tap or bottled or whatever.
The worst thing that will happen is you get a bit of mineral build up in the water chamber but it is easily removed with a bit of vinegar or lemon juice.
What you'll GET, in from tap water in SoCal (and other places), is calcium and lime scale, which isn't necessarily dangerous to your health, but MAY break your machine, and isn't easily removed even from the tank, let alone the internals of your machine.

I've been doing grocery delivery for a couple of years, due to heart failure. Had 2 gallons of distilled on hand when this virus broke, got 1 gallon easily, then had to wait a while, but got a 2.5 gallon 'bottle' on my last delivery. Did use my tap water filter for a few days, but I'm hopefully things will be back to near normal before I need more.

Well.....any kind of water that gets into the internal compartment of the blower unit is going to break the machine or actually probably fry it.
As long as the water stays in the water chamber it can't get into any internals of the machine so no way for the lime or calcium to break anything.

We have a community well that serves our subdivision. The water has a lot of minerals in it. I have to clean our humidifier quite often to keep scale from building up. I’m sure it wouldn’t do the guts of my ResMed any good
