RU researcher, NYU team to test sleep apnea machine ventilators alternative

The only thing that it sounds like they're modifying is to prevent the virus from being exhaled into the room and trapping it "somewhere."

Now that you've thoroughly hurt my feelings, I will be filing an official complaint about you with community relations in your department. See you at the hearing. And just so you know, my fat head is probably my best feature.

When Pugsy said in the thread title "everything go here please," I don't think she meant "anything goes here"!

Just sayin'.
That's cool, since I'm IA, I'll handle the complaint from you in a totally fair manner

You can trust me, I'm from the government, and I'm here to help.

Just wanted to take a moment and tell everyone that I hope they stay safe until a vaccine is completed for this. It's a rough one. I can finally say I'm over it. Never got to the point that I needed to be hospitalized. Best way to describe my experience with it would be a constant asthma attack that you can't get under control. The night sweats are sooo bad, I am throwing my mattress away and going to buy another. As for as my machine, I didn't use it, because for me it irritated the coughing even more.
This is the most important post in this thread. Glad to hear you survived. Do you mind saying your age? What is the quarantine period?

Yes, I'm wondering too.

I'd also like to ask whether you're an asthma sufferer?
Have you since been tested for antibodies and been advised regarding immunity?

I'm 42 years old, i have asthma, and OSA. I was sick for just over 2 weeks. Not sure when I caught it, but will say when the symptoms started, it came on fast, like in the time frame of an hour felt fine to and hour later felt awful. Hope they come up with a better way to test because sticking the swab all the way to the back of you nasal passage and then twisting it is no fun, plus drive thru, you don't feel like driving and waiting in a car line when you have 102+ fever. Test result came back in 2 days. I was prescribed a Z-pack and rescue inhaler. I haven't been "cleared" by a Doctor. I am just mostly symptomatic free now but I am still staying away from anyone. In my area, I have heard that they are suppose to start testing medical and first responders for antibodies this week or coming week, and if it's anything like the testing went, then about 1 week later they will open it to the public.

Saw an article about using cpaps as ventilators. Seems someone saw a need and might fill it :D

I am not sure if it is allowed, but the info can be found at AES Controls.com

My posts have been few and far between as my 84 yrs of living now dictates that most of my time be spent on maintenance of home and bod
though i do visit daily and absorb as much as i can from you guys. Lots of good stuff here. Stay safe

Airbreak.dev has just released instructions on jailbreaking resmed airsense 10 CPAP which allows the machine to access all other modes. The primary purpose was to turn the machine into a ventilator for COVID patients. Looks like anyone with these instructions can jailbreak their device now? https://airbreak.dev/

Very interesting, and cool, but I am way too dumb to be able to pull this off!

I'm dumb too! I was able to root and flash two of my android devices though. As long as there is step by step instructions and I can maneuver around the fancy, technical terms then I can do it. The instructions provided here are full of technical specs and the like but the actual steps involved are not many and seemingly short and simple.

I want to see some more learned members share their experience trying to jailbreak their device and with more material on the web, the more confident I will be when I start to dissect each step. I have risked bricking my devices before and will be willing to do again if I am able to form a strong background and have support from smarter people who know what they are doing.

2022, maybe. But 2024? Not sure I can do this for four more years and keep what's left of what passes for my sanity.
"Intermittent distancing may be required into 2022 unless critical care capacity is increased substantially or a treatment or vaccine becomes available”, the Harvard researchers said in findings published Tuesday in the journal Science. . . . The study added that even in the case of “apparent elimination”, SARS-CoV-2 surveillance should still be maintained, as a resurgence in contagion may be possible as late as 2024.--https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/928764

i am absolutely in the horns of a dilemma. i believe totally that coming out of shelter in place is going to cause a second wave of covid-19. i don't want me or my loved ones to die. nor actually mass deaths of anyone.

on the other hand, i'm stuck in a vrbo waiting for gov inslee to make the construction industry an essential service again. the machine shop to be renovated to an adult dwelling unit is just setting there, ready to be worked on.

but i don't want someone's death from covid-19 to be on my conscience. sure, staying sequestered isn't an undue hardship for me or my wife.

as my daughter said the other day, it's like we are cursed.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Interesting article leading me to believe the only difference between cpap and bipap is software related.

I think many of us can relate.

Until there is an effective treatment or a vaccine, there is nothing much to do beyond keeping the medical systems working as best they can for other conditions, seems to me. For most of us, that means hunkering down to the full extent that we possibly can.

We do what we can and don't do what we can't. We make the best decisions we can and don't hold ourselves responsible beyond that. That is one similarity between docs and non-docs at this point.

Tricky stuff, that. It will happen one day. Maybe little at a time in rolling waves by location during a new abnormal.

I file your good decisions under "loving thing to do" rather than making it a guilt-based assessment. Just me.

Sounds to me like having such an articulate and open daughter willing to express herself to you is quite the blessing, worth putting on a thankfulness/blessing list for regular review, maybe. It is also a blessing to live in an era in which the causes and potential slowing-down processes for fighting disease are understood enough for us to make some meaningful, rational, objective decisions. And it is a blessing that so many medical people are willing to be so self-sacrificing in doing what can be done with present understanding. Times of horrible disaster are times when we individually have the most opportunity to make positive differences in the lives of people around us. That's probably as far as I can go in commenting without going all religious about this.

My heart goes to out to those navigating stress and pain right now.

Meanwhile, to keep my post relatively on topic for the thread (which I do occasionally just to throw people off), ResMed has some informative FAQ statements on their perspective on vents and on modifications of CPAPs during COVID-19:
Converting in-market CPAPs to support more advanced modes of ventilation requires careful assessment to ensure risk is acceptable, and must meet labeling requirements to be set forth by the FDA. We’re currently exploring options for achieving this. Meanwhile, we’re taking every safe measure to maximize production of ResMed ventilators and bilevel devices that are more suited to the care of COVID-19 patients.--https://www.resmed.com/us/en/healthcare ... id-19.html
