...how are things going in your area?
ICU 260% of "capacity".

Hospital census 50% CV-19.
Unfortunately pretty much what I expected. Please know that my thoughts and prayers go out for you and yours.
Here in my po dunk rural area...things haven't got to anywhere near what you guys are going through. It's here but the population is much less dense and I don't know if we are just in the beginning stages or we are going to get lucky and not hit too hard. The cases around here popped up much later than in your area. So we are very early in the curve for sure.
The next county over is experiencing deaths but so far mainly in some nursing homes.

My mom is my main worry....87 years old and already extremely frail. I think myself and my husband already had it the first of March after attending a banquet last of Feb. Of course no way to know for sure until we get mainstream antibody testing.
I still treat myself as if I didn't have it though just in case it wasn't COVID and I want to limit risk of catching it (but we had all the main symptoms) and take extra precautions when around my mom and the few times I have to go out.

Please take care of yourself as best you can. Those of us here that know you....we love you and don't want anything to happen to you.

At this point, I can't find any other sources in the "lamestream" media reporting this story. I wonder why?

Tests aren't perfect. False positives and false negatives happen. Virus can hide in lower respiratory. Asymptomatic people with other serious problems will always slip through, no matter the screening protocols, since some are on the far front end or far back end of the progression.

You mean ALL my posts aren't absolutely sensational?!!

And I thought politics was cancelled until COVID-19 was over.

My bad.

Stop Making Sense is best left to the Talking Heads. Especially now, when it's Life During Wartime.

That's a good percentage. I only understand about a quarter of what I write, myself.

Well, now I'm thinking that maybe all my layman's assumptions have been completely wrong:
Does COVID-19 Require Different Ventilator Protocols? . . . Cameron Kyle-Sidell, MD, [said] it may be time to consider lung-protective strategies that utilize lower pressure settings. . . . Luciano Gattinoni, MD, of the Medical University of Göttingen in Germany and colleagues noted that COVID-19 patients in intensive care units in northern Italy had an atypical ARDS presentation, namely well-preserved lung gas volume and severe hypoxemia. Gattinoni and colleagues suggest in the letter that instead of high positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP), physicians should consider the lowest possible PEEP and gentle ventilation.

I'm long overdue for a new machine. I have been getting the vpaps and the last one was the S9 auto vpap. Would it be smart to get an AirCurve 10 ST-A in case i ever need it and what would it take for a Dr, to prescribe that? I wonder if slight COPD is enough. My sleep Dr. is an ENT and I have a feeling I would need a pulmonologist for that machine.
No, it wouldn't. the ST-A is a specialized machine, primarily for people with lung diseases, it doesn't treat sleep apnea all that well.

You'd be better off with the newer edition of the machine you're used to, which would be the AirCurve 10 VAuto.
So, let's say I get Covid 19 but stay at home because there is no hospital space, you are saying I'm better off with the aircurve 10 VPAP than the other of the ResMed BiPAP machines as they are not so good for apnea even though they are better for ventilator type functions. And I also assume you're saying you can hook up oxygen to either the S9 or the auto curve 10 VPAP if need be and of course that would be better than nothing. My other option is stick with the S9 and just wait and see if there is something like an aircurve 11 VPAP that has more ventilator functions because of what ResMed is seeing now. The thing is it's time for me to get another machine so do I do it now and get the air curve 11 and then have to wait five years for the next machine that comes out.

I'm not interested in speculating about the slim chance that you'll need a ventilator and not be able to get into a hospital.

I'm telling you that a ST-A will give you poor treatment for sleep apnea.

There's no indication whatsoever of an "aircurve 11".
